Chapter 393: Chapter 383: Tang Mo Makes a Move

During this time, Yang Ming had certainly considered ways to save himself. He was allowed to move about freely, but he had to be back by a set time every night.

It was impossible for him to get back to headquarters by himself in a single day.

’But what if I find someone to deliver a message back?’

’But who could I ask? The choice of messenger was crucial.’

The journey back to headquarters was long. It was a thankless, arduous task that very few ordinary people would be willing to undertake.

’Besides, the person couldn’t be too weak. Otherwise, even if they agreed, they might not make it back. If they got captured near the food factory, he and his colleague would be exposed, putting them in even greater danger.’

Out of caution, Yang Ming never managed to get his message out—not until his wife arrived.

There was no better candidate than his wife. The female police officer’s eyes lit up as she looked at Aunt Hua.

With Officer Yang here, his wife was naturally the best person to relay a message.

Besides, the officer had listened to Officer Yang talk about his wife every single day. She knew this woman was far from delicate; she was intelligent and resilient.

And so, bearing everyone’s hopes, Aunt Hua was sent out after Yang Ming devised a plan.

The people at the food factory were willing to grant Yang Ming the favor of letting a woman he’d "spent the night with" go free.

After all, Yang Ming had found a good amount of food for the factory during his time there. He had also offered several ideas for establishing new rules and was considered to have made a decent contribution.

Just before Aunt Hua left, the short-haired female officer took her hand, leaned in close to her ear, and whispered something.

"Don’t worry. I’m not into men."

Aunt Hua stumbled all the way back to the gathering point, her heart consumed by a single thought: she had to get to her husband’s military unit and report this immediately.

She had to get her husband out of that place safely. She had to bring him home to her and their children.

What surprised Aunt Hua even more was that her husband’s current unit was located at the Yang Family Base. In other words, Yang Ming was now working under his own father-in-law.

Aunt Hua’s story was very similar to Qiao Xin’s. One was the daughter of a rich family, the other the daughter of an official. Both had defied their families to marry a poor boy.

The only difference was the outcome. Qiao Xin had ended up with a scoundrel, while Aunt Hua had found a man who was genuinely good to her.

At the time, her father, Boss Yang, hadn’t opposed the marriage because he thought Yang Ming was a bad person. It was because he had already promised his daughter’s hand to the son of an old friend.

He had watched the boy grow up and trusted him more than anyone.

But to his surprise, Aunt Hua not only refused to listen, she even got pregnant out of wedlock.

The pre-marital pregnancy completely soured Boss Yang’s impression of the young, newly-enlisted soldier, cementing his belief that the boy was unreliable.

Because of this, Aunt Hua almost never went home again. Even Yang Ming had no idea that his father-in-law was the renowned Boss Yang!

But over the years, though Aunt Hua rarely contacted her father, she was still living under his watch. Seeing that his daughter was living a good life, Boss Yang kept an eye on her from a distance and felt greatly relieved.

The father and daughter remained in this awkward standoff, both too stubborn to be the first to give in, yet both caring for each other from afar.

As Ah Hua continued to live well, Boss Yang began to re-evaluate his son-in-law more objectively. He had to admit, the young man had turned out to be quite decent.

He had worked his way up through his own efforts, earning several military commendations along the way, all the way to the present day.

After the apocalypse began, Boss Yang sent people to retrieve his daughter, but she refused to leave. She insisted on staying home with her child to wait for her husband.

When they went back for her again some time later, they found her home empty.

That was why Boss Yang had been putting so much effort into searching for people all this time. He wasn’t just looking for his precious son, but also for his beloved daughter and grandchildren.

This hidden "side quest," however, was not something a minor figure like Zhao Huan would ever be privy to.

"Big Sis!"

Ever since being rescued by Zhao Huan, Yang Jiabao had been listless and refused to speak. Zhao Huan had assumed the boy was a simpleton.

It wasn’t until he saw Aunt Hua that the little boy finally reacted, throwing himself into her arms.

"Big Sis, Big Sis."

"Uncle!"

"Jiabao!"

Zhao Huan’s group was large, with several dozen people. It was only at this moment that Da Bao realized his uncle had somehow ended up in their group.

Seeing Da Bao and Er Bao, Yang Jiabao grew even happier, a smile appearing on his face for the first time.

"Jiabao, are you okay? Come on, let’s go home! We have to get home right away!"

Aunt Hua checked Yang Jiabao over from head to toe. Seeing no serious injuries, she grabbed the children, wanting to leave at once.

Although Aunt Hua wasn’t on speaking terms with her father, she was still very close to her younger brother—the son her father had late in life, and her own full-blooded sibling.

After all, she was old enough to be his mother, and Yang Jiabao was about the same age as her own son, Da Bao.

Since her husband was often away on duty with the army, Boss Yang would frequently send Yang Jiabao over to Aunt Hua’s place so the siblings could bond.

"Aunt Hua, calm down," Tang Mo said. "Everyone is safe now. That’s what matters."

Tang Mo grabbed Aunt Hua’s arm, stopping her from acting rashly.

The usually calm Aunt Hua was in a complete panic now, unable to compose herself.

How could she not panic? Her husband was still trapped in that den of wolves. She had to save him!

Aunt Hua’s words, however, gave Tang Mo an idea. ’It seems the most important thing right now is to deliver the message. And as for delivering a message... I have a way to do that!’

’In this world, when it comes to speed, no one is faster than me.’

’If I can deliver this message, my connection with the Yang Family will become much stronger. That will make things much more convenient for me later on.’

’This can’t wait. I can’t put it off until tonight. I have to do it now!’

Originally, Tang Mo hadn’t come up with a good plan, which was why she’d intended to travel slowly and think things over.

But now that she had a solution, she had to act on it immediately.

"Zhao Huan, I have a way to get you all to the Yang Family Base right now."

Zhao Huan had been listening intently to Aunt Hua’s story. When he heard Tang Mo’s words, his heart leaped with joy.

’The journey back to the Yang Family Base is long,’ he thought. ’I’m worried something might happen to Yang Jiabao along the way. Until I have that reward money in my hands, I can’t relax.’

’If there’s a way to get there instantly, that would be for the best.’

If anyone else had said that, the Summoner would have assumed they were just bragging.

But coming from the girl who had saved his life, Zhao Huan believed her completely.

At this point, even if Qiao Jin claimed she was a god who could fly, Zhao Huan would have believed her.

Of course, what Zhao Huan didn’t know was that Tang Mo really *could* fly...
