Chapter 2703: Chapter 2699: Misgivings

Qin Xue thought that she could only ask Xu Jia when she woke up. But from the looks of it, she wasn’t sleeping very soundly. What kind of things were troubling such a small child?

After Yu Xiu helped the child change clothes, Qin Xue looked at her face. Was she about to wake up?

"Mom, I want to drink water." Xu Jia opened her eyes in a daze and saw her mother in front of her. Her throat was dry and sore, and she desperately wanted some water.

"Alright, just a moment, I’ll get you some water." Yu Xiu propped Xu Jia against the headboard and got up to fetch water for her daughter to drink.

"Here’s my water, you can drink it." Qin Xue took out her cup. The water in her cup was spiritual spring water, which would be good for the child now that she was sick.

"Thank you, Auntie." Xu Jia heard the voice and looked over at Qin Xue, taking the cup from her.

"Jiajia, can you tell Auntie if you’re feeling uncomfortable anywhere else?" Qin Xue initially wanted to ask her some things, but seeing her still groggy after waking up, she decided to let her settle down first and save the questions for later.

"Headache, sore throat." Xu Jia nodded, indicating that these were her main discomforts at the moment.

As for other things, she didn’t feel much else, just weakness and some discomfort.

But she didn’t want her mother to worry, so she didn’t mention anything else. Besides, she had grown up quite a bit and understood that her parents were too busy with work every day to be burdened with worry.

The things Xu Jia thought about were unknown to Yu Xiu and the others; otherwise, they’d surely be moved to tears. How much can a child this age understand? Yet, she didn’t want them to worry. But as parents, they truly weren’t aware of their child’s thoughts.

"Drink more water; you need to drink lots of water when you’re sick. I heard from your mom that you don’t like drinking water. Is it because you don’t feel like it, or because plain water doesn’t taste good?" Qin Xue asked after seeing Xu Jia finish drinking the water.

"I think rice soup tastes better; I don’t like drinking plain water." At school, Xu Jia didn’t have rice soup to drink, and she would only drink a bit of plain water at home, sometimes only when she was desperately thirsty to relieve her throat.

"Being picky like this isn’t good for your health. Even if it doesn’t taste good, drink a little, but you can’t stop drinking altogether, understand?" Qin Xue felt her pulse, realizing she had only been startled.

"I understand, Auntie. When did you come?" Xu Jia nodded. To her, taste wasn’t the issue; it was whether she wanted to drink. Since she didn’t want to drink plain water, she simply didn’t.

"We’ve been here for a while. How are things at school lately?" Although Qin Xue didn’t want to ask these things now, she didn’t have much time and wanted to seize the opportunity to understand the situation.

If it were just up to Yu Xiu to ask, perhaps she wouldn’t find out much.

"I’m doing well at school. Everyone’s nice to me." Xu Jia paused slightly before saying this.

"Sister, the child just woke up; she must be hungry. Why don’t you go make some porridge, make it really soft; it’ll be delicious that way." Qin Xue noticed this small detail and sent Yu Xiu out.

The child clearly had reservations with her mother present, so they couldn’t let Yu Xiu stay, otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to find anything out.

"Alright, I’ll go right away." Yu Xiu didn’t object and responded directly to Qin Xue’s suggestion.

"Jiajia, aren’t we good kids?" Qin Xue sat by the bed, asking softly.

"Mm." Xu Jiajia nodded.

"Then, can you tell Auntie if there’s anything that’s making you unhappy?" Qin Xue tried to communicate with the child like a friend, hoping she would trust her and express her thoughts.
