Chapter 1934: Chapter 1928: A Family Doesn’t Speak as Strangers
"That’s fine. We haven’t heard anyone come looking for the children recently; those who found their families were taken home, and the rest were sent to the welfare home. Only Cohen is still with your family. Now that you’ve made a decision, it’s for the best—I think this child is a good one," Fang Xiu said. If she had the means, she would have wanted to raise Cohen herself.
Cohen truly was a child with a conscience—so sensible, obedient, and well-behaved. Who wouldn’t want such an easy child? Unfortunately, Fang Xiu relied on Qin Xue, so she had to give up that wish.
Though Jing Xin reunited with the Gongs and the Nangongs, it wasn’t public, and she’s gained another son, so she still isn’t able to support one more person.
Upon hearing Qin Xue’s decision, she relaxed. She had been worried Cohen might end up with a bad family when nobody came to claim him. But if Qin Xue’s family adopted him, there wouldn’t be any worry about his well-being. Otherwise, even in difficult times, she would have chosen to adopt Cohen.
That was another reason Fang Xiu came today. She knew about Qin Xue’s return yesterday but didn’t come over then, waiting until today to give them time to settle in after being away so long. Her youngest son was still small, so she didn’t bring him yesterday.
Today, since her purpose was achieved, she had nothing left to worry about. With her mind at ease, her appetite improved as she started to eat.
"Indeed, he’s sensible enough to evoke compassion. I wonder what his family was thinking," Qin Xue said, watching Cohen play outside the yard after eating.
"People, sometimes you just don’t know how they think. If you don’t want a child, don’t give birth to them. Having them and then not raising them only ruins a child’s life." Fang Xiu said. She would never consider abandoning her children, preferring to endure hardships herself rather than let them suffer. That, she believed, was the true attitude and responsibility of a mother.
"Perhaps others don’t think that way; otherwise, how could they do such things?" Qin Xue knew that people were different, and not every mother was like them. The topic came up again naturally, prompted by feelings of unease while watching the children.
"You’re right; now Cohen is with you, he won’t have to experience being sold from one place to another anymore. At last, he can have a stable life. He’s lucky to have met you, or I truly can’t imagine what his future would have been like." Fang Xiu felt Qin Xue’s words made a lot of sense.
"Every cause has an effect; perhaps in a past life, we were family, and the connection was too weak, so we continue our bond in this life." Qin Xue thought of the countless times of passing by for a single moment of reunion.
Now Cohen has become part of their family, and the kind of fate binding them is indescribable.
"Yes, I believe that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have met you." Fang Xiu nodded. If she hadn’t known Qin Xue, she wouldn’t have gotten to the point where she and her sons are today. Without Qin Xue’s family, she might have starved, and her young son wouldn’t have survived. Their lives were now improved, even her husband found his biological family.
These were things they dared not even imagine, yet it truly happened to them, making Fang Xiu believe in the chain of cause and effect.
"You still remember that? Didn’t we agree not to differentiate between families anymore? You’re my sister-in-law now; no need to be so courteous," Qin Xue chuckled, a bit speechless.
