Reborn in the 90s with a Space: Winning Back My Husband
Chapter 613 After So Many Coincidences, Is It Still a Coincidence? (2)
"Brother Gu, is Aunt Gu... often like this?"
Thinking about Gong Shiya’s condition, Shen Nian asked Gu Hengzhi as they were heading downstairs.
Gu Hengzhi’s mind was still lost in the scene he had just witnessed. He only snapped out of it when he heard Shen Nian speak.
"We’ve had people come forward claiming to be Ke’er, and we’ve also found people ourselves, hoping to comfort my aunt. But after she met them, my aunt always said they weren’t Ke’er. You, Xiao Nian, are the very first person my aunt has recognized as Ke’er."
After he finished speaking, Gu Hengzhi couldn’t help but take a few more glances at Shen Nian. ’One coincidence can be called a coincidence, but when there are too many, can it really still be just a coincidence?’
"Is that so? In that case, Brother Gu, do I look a lot like someone in the Gu family?"
Gu Hengzhi shook his head. That was what he found so strange. Shen Nian didn’t look anything like the parental couple, Gu Yaohui and Gong Shiya, nor did she resemble Gu Zifan.
’The thing was, there wasn’t a single thing about Shen Nian that resembled Gu Ke’er. So why, in his heart, was he growing more and more suspicious that Shen Nian might be her?’
"I thought I must look a lot like someone for Aunt Gu to mistake me! It seems it’s probably because Aunt Gu misses Miss Gu Ke’er too much, and since she just woke up, she might have been a little disoriented. That’s probably why she got confused."
After saying her piece, Shen Nian continued down the stairs, sat on the living room sofa, and went back to eating the snacks Nanny Xu had made earlier.
As for the matter of whether she could be Gu Ke’er, Shen Nian herself didn’t have the slightest doubt. ’After all, I’m not an orphan. And my parents are so good to me, there’s no way I’m not their biological daughter!’
Gu Hengzhi stood on the stairs, motionless for a long time.
’She was right, what she’d just said was certainly a strong possibility. But something inside him kept insisting that things weren’t that simple.’
’Just what was the truth? And where exactly did the problem lie?’
Gu Yaohui, still in the bedroom, was wrestling with the same inner conflict as Gu Hengzhi.
Although Gong Shiya had fallen asleep again and the expression on her face had softened considerably,
Gu Yaohui hadn’t forgotten her earlier reaction, nor had he forgotten a single word she’d said.
He knew that Shiya’s mental state had never been stable over the years due to the trauma she’d suffered. But this was the first time Gong Shiya had ever clung to someone so fiercely and called them her daughter.
His son had treated Shen Nian differently from the moment they met. His wife had recognized Shen Nian as their daughter at first sight. Even he and Gu Hengzhi felt a strong affinity for her.
So many coincidences couldn’t possibly be that simple.
Even if Gu Hengzhi’s earlier investigation into Shen Nian’s background had turned up nothing, at this moment, Gu Yaohui simply refused to believe it. He refused to believe that Shen Nian truly had no connection to their family whatsoever!
Gu Yaohui reached out and gently stroked Gong Shiya’s face, his gaze full of love.
"Shiya, please get well soon."
Gu Yaohui didn’t stay in the room for long. Shen Nian was still in their house, and he wanted to take this opportunity to learn more from her.
The emotionally-charged Gu Yaohui from moments ago was gone. By the time he left the bedroom and appeared before Shen Nian downstairs, he had once again become the gentle, refined man she had met earlier.
He suppressed his emotions, not wanting to frighten Shen Nian, but also hoping he could confirm something more about her.
