Chapter 490: Rejection (II)

When he went to the village, it was just as he had expected. The young lady indeed turned out to be a little bit difficult to deal with. Not only was she expelled after having an affair at school, but she also had three other matches. The only reason her family was willing to marry her off to their family was that their son was a soldier and his subsidies were quite good. If not, the woman would never have agreed to marry his son.

They had insulted their daughter!

It would not do; they needed to marry their daughter as their daughter-in-law.

In the end, they ended up getting into a fierce quarrel. The lady’s family even raised their hands at their family. And it was during this tussle that Old Man Zhao ended up getting pushed into a sewage drain. He fell on his back and ended up hurting his spine. He fractured his backbone, and even his hip bone got dislocated, and he was sent to the hospital.

It was only because of this very reason that the lady’s family dropped the matter. They were all honest farmers and were worried that they would end up being blamed for what happened to Old Man Zhao. Thus, they simply patted their butts and said that they were not in the wrong. It was their family who had let them down first, and since their daughter’s reputation had been ruined, Old Man Zhao had broken his spine because he was in the wrong first.

Since that was the case, no one could blame them.

Only then did they call it quits.

Old Man Zhao was quite relieved when he realised that he had finally gotten rid of such a troublesome family. Although he was injured, he could not be bothered to argue about the medical fees with that family. By heaven’s grace, his sons were working and had decent salaries. They were able to afford his expenses without much fuss. He only blamed himself for being unlucky and attracting such a tragedy.

In the beginning, he used to think that it was a shame that he had to stay at the hospital for so long, but who would have thought that they would actually run into Han Ruochen? She was simply their ideal daughter-in-law!

In the past, they might not have been able to tell whether Han Ruochen was a good woman or not, but after meeting with Han Ziyan, they were able to sense the difference between the two sisters very easily.

When it was Han Ziyan’s turn to look after Han Yichen, she would always look around, and her attention was on the male doctors. Most importantly, they had never seen her settle and take care of her father honestly. What was more, she always complained about this and that. Nor did she ever cook for him. Even when some of the young ones wanted to talk with her, Han Ruochen ignored them if they did not talk about important matters with her. She had never taken any initiative to jump in the arms of another man.

Just with this alone, they could see that there was a vast difference between the two sisters.

Han Ruochen was steady and generous, had self-regard and also knew how to respect others. Where else would they find a good daughter-in-law like her?

Old Man Zhao turned worried when he saw that Han Yichen had not agreed. He was worried that he would end up losing this good daughter-in-law of his, so he immediately said, "Brother Han, are you worried because my son is a soldier? My son is quite capable. Although he is younger than your daughter, he is all set to become the company commander very soon. He is the youngest in his team! I understand that it might not be easy for a woman to be the wife of a soldier, but ... from what I can see, your daughter respects soldiers very much. She will definitely like the match if you bring it up to her."

If Han Ruochen were their daughter-in-law, they would be able to smile even in their sleep.

He might as well leave the matter in the hands of his daughter and let her choose the man she liked.

Even though she doesn’t show it on her face, she is quite resistant to marriage; if not, she would not have gone to the sea and taken on dangerous missions. She would have married obediently. Given how much she dislikes getting married—I don’t think she will marry for another two or three years."
