Chapter 482: I am Glad You Are Back

On the other side, Han Ruochen arrived at the county hospital as fast as she could. However, because she was in a hurry, she did not see where she was going and ended up bumping into someone.

"Ruochen?"

Han Ruochen raised her head and almost had a nosebleed when she saw the sight in front of her. Zhai Muchen was standing right in front, wearing a pair of high-waist camouflaged pants and a white cotton singlet top. His singlet was wet and plastered to his body. It was most probably because he came straight to the hospital after his exercises and training in the military region. This man! What was he even doing, walking around looking like a walking temptation? She clenched her teeth and started chanting sutras in an attempt to drive her mindless thoughts in another direction, but then—

A pair of arms reached out and hugged her. Startled, Han Ruochen opened her eyes, only to see Zhai Muchen hugging her. What? What happened? Han Ruochen had never felt like she was a lecherous girl. In fact, it could be said that she disdained almost 99% of the male population after what she went through at the hands of the Yang brothers. Even though she had been married in her past life, she had a pure heart and few desires up till her death. Han Ruochen had never had a day when she yearned for a man, and neither did she think of having those kinds of thoughts.

However, for the first time in her life, her body seemed to be reacting to the presence of a man. When she looked at Zhai Muchen, she could only see the sweat drops trickling down his neck. What was happening—just why was this man hugging her? The realisation of their posture hit her, and Han Ruochen immediately turned beet red. She pushed the man away from her.

Only then did Zhai Muchen realise what was going on. He stepped back and looked at Han Ruochen with a complicated yet relieved look in his eyes. His face was filled with relief, and his words were filled with nothing but concern and worry.

"Ruochen, why didn’t you tell me the contents of the documents? I thought that it was a simple request. Who would have thought that the old man asked you for such a despicable thing? Do you even know what would have happened if something had happened to you? You are very lucky that you survived this voyage! You should have told me the truth when you still had the time."

Hearing Zhai Muchen’s soft and concerned tone, Han Ruochen was stunned. For some reason, she felt flustered.

"Brother Zhai, I already told you that this task was something that I could deal with easily." Han Ruochen suppressed the troubled feelings in her heart and said to him with a smile, "I would have refused the task if I were not confident." However, after some thoughts, she said in a low voice, "Brother Muchen, did you pass the wrong documents to me? These things were something that I am not supposed to see."

Han Ruochen lowered her head after she finished speaking; she did not dare to look anywhere other than Zhai Muchen’s shoes. She was fearful that her thoughts would go astray if she looked at him anymore. She was worried that she would end up becoming a lecherous woman. This was something that she did not want to happen!

"You should have still told me." Zhai Muchen’s muscular arm reached out, but then he paused as if he thought of something. Suddenly, a thought came to him, and he said in a low voice, "Did you really go through the Devil’s teeth?"

"Of course I did!" Han Ruochen’s voice was filled with pride as she handed him the map that she had carefully drawn on the paper.

Zhai Muchen took the document, and his eyes flashed with surprise. As he looked at the map, there were frequent flashes of shock in his eyes. During the past few months, he had had few interactions with Han Ruochen. He knew that Han Ruochen was skilled when it came to matters of the sea, but she was so young. Even a sixty-year-old man who had all the experience in the world could never reach the end of this channel, and yet Han Ruochen had done something no one could. She had really exceeded his expectations.

Zhai Muchen only wanted to help Han Ruochen because he knew that her family was in need of money and Han Ruochen’s mother was a capricious character. Given the situation, Han Ruochen certainly did not have enough money to raise so many people in her family.

He could not have simply given her the money because he knew that Han Ruochen was too prideful. So he found an opportunity to earn money, lest Han Ruochen refuse. When he found out that the old man had given her such a difficult task, he wanted to protect her to the end of his life, as long as she returned safely. Zhai Muchen’s eyes, which were as black and deep as a gem with glistening waves of light, suddenly narrowed. His tall and slender body leaned back, and he crossed both of his arms in front of him. He looked at Han Ruochen just like a lazy leopard who was trying his best to conceal his shrewdness in his eyes.

With his gaze fixated on Han Ruochen, she felt like she was prey who would lose her life if she loosened her guard. She had no idea why but she felt like she was going to lose her neck.
