First, Han Ruochen cleared her stance, and then she cleared her relationship with the Tong family. She did not want unwanted rumours to spread all over the village. What if Tong Hao and his mother started to spread the word that she was taking care of Tong Zhaodi because of them? She did not want such a predicament to arise, so she cleared the air before they could dirty it.

Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, Tong Hao’s expression turned ugly. But Han Ruochen didn’t pay attention to him. Instead, she turned to look at Tong Zhaodi and said to her, "Come with me. We need to set sail as soon as possible." After she finished speaking, she ignored Tong Hao and then jumped into her boat; the sooner she got away from this man, the better or else she was worried that he would actually do something even more sinister.

Tong Zhaodi glanced at her brother’s ugly expression and then followed Han Ruochen. She had already warned Tong Hao not to cause trouble for Han Ruochen. Her brother might be slick enough, but Han Ruochen was different from other women. She was not someone who had not seen the world and would definitely not be flattered by her brother.

Tong Hao was quite upset. He wanted to get close to Han Ruochen, but the woman was stubborn as a mule.

He glared at the woman and then turned around to walk back home. "Bah, you shameless woman! Just wait, once I get you in my bed, I will torment you so badly that you will never dare to utter another word against me." Tong Hao was determined to bring Han Ruochen back home. In the entire village, she was the only one who had enough money to raise him and his children. As for those women in the county, they did not even pay attention to him.

His mother might believe that he would amount to something great, but Tong Hao knew his own capabilities. He didn’t even have a diploma, and his family did not have enough money to buy him a job. Tong Zhaodi’s job could barely support their family and his expenses. With no job and no fortune, would a woman from a good family pay attention to him?

All in all, Han Ruochen was the best option for him.

It would be better for him to get married to her than roam around aimlessly.

While Tong Hao was planning to marry her, Han Ruochen was telling Tong Zhaodi about the route that they were going to sail, causing the woman to turn paler and paler.

"Sister Ruochen, I don’t think this is alright." Tong Zhaodi knew that Han Ruochen was going to set sail, but she never thought that she was going to set sail past the Devil’s Teeth Channel. Though she had never seen anyone going past that path, she had heard all about it. Many fishermen did try to cross that route, but ultimately they never survived.

That channel was heavily mined during three different wars. If she was not wrong, then there were acoustic mines, wartime magnetic charges, and unmapped antisubmarine explosives that were sitting under the water. It was an underwater graveyard. No ship had entered that passage for more than sixty years. Last time someone dared to steer past that path, they ended up blowing up into bits!

And Han Ruochen wanted to steer past that path? She was simply crazy.

Han Ruochen reached down and flattened the map under the dim light of the lamp. "We are not steering past that route; we are going through another path."

"But it’s too close!" Tong Zhaodi’s eyes widened with panic. She was almost suffocating with panic and could not help but clutch Han Ruochen’s arm tightly. "This is nothing less than suicide. You know that even the naval clearance teams have declared that the zone is too dangerous and impassable! And you..."

Han Ruochen smiled at Tong Zhaodi. She raised her hand and patted the woman on the back of her hand and said to her softly, "I know that you are scared, but trust me, alright? I know what I am doing." She then paused and added, "But if you are too scared, then there is no need to follow me to the sea. I will not drag you into the mess if you are unwilling to deal with it."

Tong Zhaodi hesitated when she heard Han Ruochen say that she did not have to follow. Honestly, she was too scared to follow Han Ruochen to the sea, but at the same time she also knew that it was all because of Han Ruochen that she was able to survive in her family. If Han Ruochen had not taken her under her wing, her mother would have definitely starved her to death or made her suffer even more. Maybe her mother might even sell her off!

So, it was not wrong that Han Ruochen had given her a new life, so how could she ignore Han Ruochen’s plight when she knew that Han Ruochen might end up in a rather unfortunate situation if she went alone to the sea? She gritted her teeth and agreed, "I will go with you, Sister Ruochen." Without her, there would be no her; how could Tong Zhaodi let Han Ruochen take all the dangers?

Han Ruochen wanted her to return home, but when she saw the determination in Tong Zhaodi’s eyes, she pursed her lips and stopped convincing her. She stood up and said to Tong Zhaodi, "Alright, since you want to come with me, then I will not stop you, but just let me tell you one thing: it will be a rather difficult journey."

**

While Han Ruochen was heading to the sea, the Qiao family had once again fallen into trouble. Qiao Tingyan looked at the empty kitchen with no fire burning in the stove and was so angry that he wanted to hit someone. He turned around and headed out of the kitchen before shouting, "Mom, you didn’t cook for me!?"
