Reborn in the 80s and Remarrying an Officer, Let the Ungrateful Cry!
Chapter 592: He Passed Away Last Night
Fu Mingxue left without another word.
’I can’t just tell her to her face that they’re not a good match, can I?’
’What would people think? They’d assume I, her sister-in-law, don’t want her to get married!’
As for setting her up on a blind date?
’That’s out of the question.’
’At most, the next time I see my sister-in-law, I’ll mention that there’s someone who wants to go on a blind date with her.’
’Whether she accepts or not will be her own decision.’
’If she says no, I absolutely won’t try to convince her otherwise.’
’Everyone has their own path to walk.’
She hadn’t stayed at the base too late on New Year’s Eve, getting off work at ten.
The next day was the first day of the Lunar New Year, and Fu Mingxue took the rare opportunity to sleep in.
She saw someone as she was getting up and leaving her dorm.
She was pleasantly surprised.
"Sis, what are you doing here?"
Qin Wenying’s expression held no such pleasant surprise.
Instead, she looked haggard. "I’m passing through on my way back to Beijing. Do you need to head back? Grandfather passed away last night."
The words left Fu Mingxue stunned.
"You mean Grandfather... he—" ’I didn’t mishear her, did I? Is that what she meant?’
Qin Wenying nodded, her face grief-stricken. "Yes, Grandfather passed away last night. I couldn’t get through to your phone here, so I drove overnight to let you know."
Fu Mingxue truly hadn’t expected this. ’Grandfather’s health seemed perfectly fine. How could he be gone just like that?’
’And last night, of all times.’
Just then, Qin Wenying spoke again. "If you really can’t get away from work, then—"
How could Fu Mingxue possibly not go back?
She said at once, "I’ll go back with you. Just give me an hour."
Although Grandfather’s death filled her with sorrow, she had to hand off her work first.
Qin Wenying nodded.
"Alright. I’ll come get you in an hour."
"Deal." After speaking, Fu Mingxue hurried off toward the base.
Fortunately, her dorm wasn’t too far from the base—only a five-minute walk away—but it took a good while to walk to her office once inside.
When she arrived, Chang Qingze was also there.
Chang Qingze hadn’t planned on taking the morning off.
So he’d come in bright and early.
He was quite surprised to see Fu Mingxue.
"Group Leader Fu, what are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to take the morning off?"
"An elder in my family passed away. I have to go back right away. Group Leader Chang, it’s good you’re here. I need to hand some things off to you."
Hearing that an elder in her family had passed away, Chang Qingze’s expression immediately turned solemn.
"My condolences."
He then walked over.
Fu Mingxue began the handover.
"Keep an eye on the changes I’ve made these past few days, and watch for any shifts in the material data. As for the unresolved issues, those can wait until I return. I’ll call you when I have a moment, and you can update me on any problems then."
Chang Qingze nodded immediately. "Alright, I’ve got it."
After finishing the handover, Fu Mingxue also quickly dealt with a few other urgent tasks.
For the issues she couldn’t resolve on the spot, she simply jotted them down, planning to work on them during the journey back or in the evenings at home.
Roughly an hour later, she hurried out of the base.
Qin Wenying was sitting in the car.
"Wen Ying, I need to go upstairs one more time."
Seeing the sweat on her forehead, Qin Wenying said, "You don’t have to rush. A few minutes won’t make a difference."
Fu Mingxue didn’t say anything more and went upstairs to pack.
She put some things directly into her space and packed the rest in a suitcase.
She came back down with her suitcase, got into the car, and said, "Let’s go."
