Chapter 572: Which Mother-in-Law Wouldn’t Like Such a Son-in-Law?

  • Next Chapter

Mrs. Fu looked over and saw none other than her son-in-law walking toward her.

She was delighted.

Just then, Qin Wenhao reached Mrs. Fu in a few quick strides.

"Ma, I’m here to take you home!"

He smoothly took the package from his mother-in-law’s hands.

Mrs. Fu was overjoyed. "Wenhao, when did you get back to Beijing? And how did you know we’d be back today?"

She didn’t recall Qin Wenshu calling home.

Qin Wenhao said, "I got back yesterday. I figured you’d probably be arriving today, and this is the only train that gets in at ten."

Mrs. Fu was delighted to hear this.

’This means my son-in-law is always thinking of me!’

"Brother Wenhao, you’re brilliant," Qin Wenshu couldn’t help but chime in from the side.

Among his generation, the cousin he admired most was this one.

Qin Wenze couldn’t even be bothered to acknowledge him.

He turned to his mother-in-law and said, "Ma, let’s go!"

"Ah, alright! By the way, how are the children?" Mrs. Fu had missed the two children the most during her time away.

"They’ve been asking for their grandma constantly, thinking of you every day." Qin Wenhao knew just what to say.

Hearing this made Mrs. Fu both happy and sentimental. "I’ve been thinking about the children, too. This is the longest we’ve ever been apart since I started looking after them."

The car was parked just outside the station. After the three of them left the station, they got in.

Qin Wenhao drove, and Qin Wenshu took the passenger seat.

Mrs. Fu sat in the back.

’Watching the scenery fly by outside the window, she couldn’t help but marvel again at the vast difference between the big city and a small town.’

’No wonder all those sent-down youth were so determined to return to the city, even after putting down roots in the countryside for more than a decade.’

’If it were her, she’d want to live in the city forever, too.’

The car drove straight to their courtyard house.

Qin Wenshu got out of the car first.

After hopping out, he quickly opened the back door.

"Auntie, we’re home! You can get out now!"

Mrs. Fu got out of the car. Looking at the main gate of the courtyard house, she felt a sudden sense of belonging.

’It made sense. For the rest of her life, this was the only home she had.’

’After all, she had already dealt with her old house back home.’

They opened the main gate, and Qin Wenhao and Qin Wenshu helped carry her things inside.

Seeing there was nothing else for him to do, Qin Wenshu immediately said to Mrs. Fu, "Auntie, I’ll get going now."

Hearing he was leaving, Mrs. Fu quickly stopped him. "What do you mean you’re going? You have to stay for a meal—"

He had been running around helping her for days; Mrs. Fu couldn’t let him leave without at least having a meal.

"No, it’s alright. I’ll eat here next time. I’m going to head home and freshen up first."

Mrs. Fu was about to insist further when Qin Wenhao, who was standing by, stopped her.

"Ma, let him go home for now. He probably wants to take a shower. We’re all family, there’ll be plenty of other chances to eat together."

Qin Wenshu also chimed in, "He’s right, Auntie. It’s not like I need to be formal with you. Next time, you won’t even have to ask—I’ll just show up to get a free meal."

This time, Mrs. Fu didn’t press the issue. "Well, why don’t you come over tonight then?"

"Next time. Auntie, I can’t talk now, I’m really going." Qin Wenshu grabbed his things and scurried off.

After he left, Mrs. Fu couldn’t help but say to Qin Wenhao, "That Wenshu is such a good young man. These past few days, I really have him to thank for running all the errands."

’I forgot to thank him properly.’

"It’s what family does. By the way, Ma, you must be exhausted after being on the train for so long. I’ve already heated some water for you, so go get washed up. I’ll go pick up the children."
