The police went to the cemetery in the morning to investigate, and furthermore, the two couples had confessed the previous night.

So they showed up at noon.

"There are two options. They’re willing to pay compensation."

"The other is fifteen days of detention."

Mrs. Fu was naturally unsatisfied.

"They desecrated my husband’s grave! How can they only get fifteen days of detention?"

"They’ve repaired the grave. We went to the cemetery and confirmed it. The exposed part was just because the soil wasn’t packed down tightly, and it happened to get washed away by the heavy rain a few days ago."

"Besides, the grave had already shown signs of erosion from the rain before this."

Mrs. Fu remembered that she hadn’t been back in a year.

’If they can only be locked up for fifteen days, then what’s the point?’

"How much are they offering to pay?"

"One hundred."

"That won’t do. Five hundred, at least. After they did something so despicable, I’ll need to buy a new plot. Rebuilding the grave costs money, too. And what about compensation for my family’s emotional distress? Look, I won’t take anything less than five hundred."

"If they don’t agree, I’ll keep pressing the issue. If you can’t resolve it here, that’s fine. I’ll petition the municipal government. I’ll petition the military. I’ll petition—"

Listening to this, the officers felt their heads about to explode. They quickly cut her off, "Stop, we’ll go talk to them."

Only then did Mrs. Fu relent.

When the detained Eldest Fu heard that Xu Zifeng had the audacity to demand five hundred, he was livid.

To say nothing of Yan Hongwei.

But when the police repeated Mrs. Fu’s words to them...

The faces of Eldest Fu, Third Brother Fu, and their wives turned deathly pale.

They also remembered the status of Fu Mingxue’s husband.

It wasn’t out of the question that if this dragged on, they could get a few years in prison—the mere thought made them tremble involuntarily.

Third Brother Fu was a coward. "Eldest Brother, I think our two families should just pay it. Two hundred and fifty each. We can scrape it together—"

’If we get locked up for a few days, how much money will we lose?’

Eldest Fu gritted his teeth. "—Fine."

And so, the two families scraped together five hundred yuan.

Only after receiving the money did Mrs. Fu agree to settle.

She hired some people and quickly bought a burial plot on a different mountain, away from the Fu family’s old home.

The very next day, the new grave was prepared and the reburial was complete.

Anxious about her family at home, Mrs. Fu and Qin Wenshu boarded a train back to Beijing that very day—

Before leaving, she sold the house there for a low price.

After all, she was unlikely to ever come back and live there again.

Besides, a house left vacant for too long would quickly fall into ruin. When she returned this time, she’d already seen that rats had chewed up much of the furniture.

Fu Mingxue, however, knew nothing of these events.

She had spent three days repairing the airplane, and now it was finally fixed.

On the day of her departure, it was Qin Wenying who flew her back.

Qin Wenying didn’t head home, however. After dropping Fu Mingxue off in Beijing, she flew right back.

After Fu Mingxue deplaned, someone else drove her home.

She got home at five o’clock.

The Qin family was just about to have dinner when she walked in. The moment Mrs. Qin saw her, she was overcome with concern. "Mingxue, how have you gotten so thin over the past few days? What has that Wen Ying been doing? Didn’t she make sure you were eating properly?"

It was a good thing Qin Wenying hadn’t come home, or she would have been furious to hear that.

Hearing her mother-in-law’s words, Fu Mingxue couldn’t help but chuckle. She quickly replied, "Mom, I’ve been eating well. The food there was actually quite plentiful. I haven’t lost any weight."

Just then, two little figures came pattering up to her.

"Mommy, we missed you so much—"
