The twins were quite smart.

When it was time for dinner, they stood watch at the main gate, their eyes peeled for their mother to come home from work.

It was no use, no matter how Mrs. Qin tried to persuade them.

"Your mom might have to work late tonight. Be good now, let’s go eat first."

When she saw that they were still intent on waiting for their mother, she said, "If you two keep this up, I’m going to tell on you when your mom gets home. I’ll say you weren’t being good and refused to eat properly."

Her words proved quite effective.

The moment the twins heard their grandmother was going to tell on them, they grew anxious.

"We’ll be good! Don’t tell."

Seeing them act this way, Mrs. Qin couldn’t help but sigh in relief.

’You little rascals. To think I couldn’t handle you.’

"Alright, I won’t tell. Come on, let’s go eat."

Just as she took one by each hand and was about to leave, she suddenly saw a car driving toward them.

Mrs. Qin stared—but before she could get a good look, the car had already pulled up to the gate and stopped.

Qin Wenying pushed open the car door and got out.

After exchanging a word with the driver, the car drove off.

"Wen Ying? What are you doing back?"

She had stormed off in a huff last time and hadn’t contacted the family for a long while, which had worried her mother sick.

Thankfully, the girl eventually showed some conscience and finally gave the family a call.

"What, not happy to see me?" Qin Wenying arched a bold eyebrow.

Mrs. Qin rolled her eyes at her. "Who would dare not welcome you? Get in the house. These past few days, your grandparents have been talking about you constantly."

Qin Wenying’s gaze fell on the two little ones at her mother’s feet.

She then bent down to pinch their cheeks. "So squishy. Be good now, call me Auntie."

The little ones vaguely remembered her, since Qin Wenying had stayed at the family compound before.

So, they obediently called out, "Auntie—"

"Excellent!" Qin Wenying said, scooping up a child with each arm. "What are they doing here?"

She knew Fu Mingxue had returned to Beijing with her mother and the two children. After all, she’d already paid a visit to the family compound.

She just hadn’t expected the twins to be at the Qin Family Mansion.

She thought they would be at the courtyard house.

Good thing she hadn’t rushed over to the courtyard house first.

Watching her tuck a child under each arm, Mrs. Qin felt her eyelids start to twitch uncontrollably.

’Who carries children like that?’

"Put them down this instant."

"We hardly ever see each other. What’s wrong with me holding them for a bit?" Qin Wenying paid her no mind.

She marched straight into the courtyard, one child tucked under each arm.

’You call this ’holding’ them?’

She rolled her eyes, then closed the gate and followed them into the courtyard.

As soon as Qin Wenying entered the living room and saw the elders, she called out, "Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, I’m home!"

Her return made the two Qin elders overjoyed.

Of all their grandchildren, Qin Wenying was the one they doted on the most; none of the grandsons could compare.

Granny Qin was particularly emotional.

"As long as you’re back, that’s what matters. Will you be staying for the New Year?"

Qin Wenying shook her head. "Probably not. I’m actually here to see Mingxue about something. By the way, is she here?"

"She’s not back yet. She’ll probably be home very late tonight."

"Mingxue isn’t staying at the courtyard house?" Qin Wenying found that a bit strange.

"Your aunt had to return to her hometown a couple of days ago on urgent business. The children were here, so I had Mingxue stay with us for a few days. Anyway, what do you need her for?"

"I need her to go fix an airplane."

Qin Wenying had made some inquiries and found out that her sister-in-law was far better at repairing airplanes than any of the professional maintenance engineers.

It was actually someone else who had suggested this to her.

So she’d rushed over to the military family compound, only to find that Mingxue wasn’t there and had already returned to Beijing.

And so, she had hurried to Beijing to find her.
