Gao Lan returned home.

The anger she had been suppressing the entire way finally erupted.

"Qin Wenze, what do your parents mean by this? The children are both adopted, so why are they being treated so differently? Are they looking down on me because I’m not as accomplished as Fu Mingxue?"

Qin Wenze’s expression was also grim.

"First of all, my sister-in-law isn’t after the Qin family’s assets. Secondly, they didn’t make a big deal about throwing a recognition banquet for the twins."

"And another thing—I’ve told you before, no matter what, you don’t bring up my sister-in-law’s twins. Their birth father was a hero. The children he left behind aren’t some topic for you to bring up whenever you please."

"I need you to stop constantly comparing them."

’He truly regretted it now—he never should have agreed to Gao Lan adopting this child.’

’It had just made everyone miserable.’

Gao Lan was so furious the rims of her eyes turned red.

"Qin Wenze, how am I making an issue out of them? I just mentioned it in passing! Besides, your parents are clearly playing favorites. As elders, why can’t they just be fair?"

"And another thing! You say Fu Mingxue isn’t after the Qin family’s fortune—Hah! Does she even need to be? She doesn’t have to say or do a thing, and your mom gets everything she needs ready for her. What about that refrigerator in the summer? When Qin Wenhao came and asked about it, didn’t your mom just hand them the three to five thousand yuan for it?"

The Qin family had driven them, as a couple, out to this small courtyard house.

’This basically counted as splitting the family, right?’

’But she hadn’t seen her parents-in-law give them any money to help them get settled.’

Seeing her hysterical state, Qin Wenze couldn’t help but be reminded of his ex-wife, Lan Qingman.

’He just didn’t understand—how could her personality have changed so drastically?’

He suddenly felt very weary.

It wasn’t just a physical exhaustion; he was profoundly weary in his heart.

"Gao Lan, are you determined to argue like this? If you really insist on fighting, then how is this marriage supposed to go on?"

Hearing his words, Gao Lan’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"Qin Wenze, what is that supposed to mean?"

Qin Wenze looked at her very seriously.

"What I mean is—if you want our marriage to continue, then we need to just focus on living our own lives and stay out of the Qin family’s business and my brother’s affairs."

"My salary is quite good; it’s enough to support you. Our own little family can live a perfectly good life."

"Didn’t you say you wanted to take the college entrance exams again? Then you should pull your focus back and start studying hard. When the time comes, if you pass, you’ll go to college. If you don’t, you can try again if you want. Or if you’d rather work, I’ll find you a job."

’A person can’t afford to be idle.’

’If she has too much free time, her mind will only dwell on all her grievances.’

’What’s more, she insisted on comparing herself to Fu Mingxue—was there really any need for that?’

’Someone else’s excellence doesn’t mean you aren’t excellent yourself.’

’Perhaps in other areas, they’re the ones who can’t compare to you?’

’Take him, for example—he was clearly the eldest son, but growing up, the only ones the elders ever considered smart and exceptional were his younger brother and sister.’

’Was he supposed to be jealous of them?’

’He had his own strengths, too.’

’For example—he had a gentler personality than his younger siblings.’

From that day forward, a cold war began between the husband and wife.

In reality, the issue was Gao Lan’s inability to get over the accident that had caused her miscarriage, leaving her unable to become a mother.

On top of that, she genuinely felt that her parents-in-law were far too partial to Fu Mingxue.

This filled her with a profound sense of unfairness.
