"You’re heading that way? I’ll come with you! It’s perfect, I was meaning to go see them anyway."

Her mother-in-law’s words were exactly what Fu Mingxue had hoped to hear.

After all, this had been her plan all along.

"Mom, get on then. You can take a ride on my bicycle."

Mrs. Qin’s eyes landed on the modified bicycle, a flicker of interest in her expression.

"Alright."

She waited for Fu Mingxue to get on before settling onto the back seat.

"Let’s go!"

Fu Mingxue immediately twisted the handle. The power switch had been moved to the handlebar.

Qin Wenze and his family lived about three streets away—not too far, but not too close either.

So, the ride over took about seven or eight minutes.

"Mingxue, turn in there. We’re almost there, it’s just up ahead."

Following Mrs. Qin’s directions, Fu Mingxue turned into an alley and soon arrived at a small courtyard house.

"This is the place."

As soon as Fu Mingxue braked, Mrs. Qin hopped off the back of the bicycle and went to knock on the door.

A moment later, Qin Wenze opened the door.

He had just called out, "Mom,"

when he saw Fu Mingxue behind her.

"Mingxue, you’re here! Please, come in. I’ll take the bicycle—"

He hurried to take the bicycle from her.

Fu Mingxue stepped aside.

Then she followed her mother-in-law into the courtyard.

She glanced around. ’This yard can’t really compare to the quadrangle I live in; it’s just an ordinary little courtyard.

Still, it isn’t exactly small.’

She didn’t comment on how nice the house was.

’After all, it isn’t my place to say something like that.

The difference between the two sisters-in-law’s homes is stark, and such a comment would make people overthink things.’

"I thought you were busy, Mingxue. What brings you over?"

"I’ve wrapped things up at work for the time being. Mom and I came to see how Sister-in-law is doing."

Hearing this, Qin Wenze immediately said, "She’s in her room."

So Fu Mingxue and her mother-in-law went into the room.

"Sister-in-law."

Gao Lan had already heard the sounds from the courtyard.

When she saw them enter, she immediately tried to sit up.

Fu Mingxue quickly moved to stop her.

"Sister-in-law, don’t get up."

Gao Lan said, "I’m fine now."

"You still need to rest and recover properly. I’ve been a bit busy lately, so I haven’t been back to the hospital. How are you feeling now, Sister-in-law?"

"Thank you for asking. I’m almost completely better. Mingxue, about last time at the hospital... I said some things I shouldn’t have—"

Fu Mingxue cut her off before she could finish.

"Sister-in-law, it was no big deal. Please, don’t even mention it; you’ll make us sound like strangers. The only reason I didn’t visit the hospital again was because I was swamped with work. Otherwise, I would have come to see you long ago."

Just then, Mrs. Qin also chimed in, "It was just a small thing. There’s no way Mingxue would take it to heart. Just focus on resting and getting well."

Gao Lan: ...?

’Is my mother-in-law saying I’m the one being petty?’

"Yes, I’ll focus on my recovery. Mom, you should let Aunt Li go back to your place. You can’t possibly manage the whole family by yourself. I’ll be fine here. My mother is coming tomorrow to help me through my recovery."

Hearing this, Mrs. Qin nodded. "Alright, then. If your mother is willing to come and take care of you, that’s even better. I’ll tell Aunt Li not to come over tomorrow."

Fu Mingxue didn’t comment on the matter.

’The main reason was, she really didn’t know what to talk about with Gao Lan.’

Just then, Gao Lan suddenly spoke to her. "Sister-in-law, I don’t have much to do just lying in bed. Do you happen to have any books for the college entrance exam?"

Fu Mingxue looked at her. "I don’t have any books for the college entrance exam on hand, but I can pick some out for you on my next day off."
