"We should buy a house next to your brother’s."

Qin Wenze frowned the moment Gao Lan said it.

He hadn’t expected this to be her plan.

He truly didn’t understand where she got such an idea.

’Why would we need to live near my brother and sister-in-law?’

"There aren’t any courtyard houses for sale over there. Where would we even buy one? Besides, my sister-in-law, Fu Mingxue, bought her courtyard house herself. She used one of her friend’s connections."

"If her friend is so capable, then just get her to help us out too." Gao Lan had confronted Fu Mingxue the other day.

As a result, Fu Mingxue had truly stayed away, which made Gao Lan harbor a great deal of resentment.

She admitted she had been a bit emotional that day and had spoken rashly.

But that was only because she had suffered such a great trauma—that was why she had been so impulsive.

’As a fellow woman, couldn’t she show a little understanding?’

’She should try putting herself in my shoes—if this had happened to Fu Mingxue, could she have possibly maintained such a good attitude?’

When Qin Wenze heard this, his expression darkened even further.

’What nerve, asking my sister-in-law’s friend to pull strings for us?’

He bluntly shut down her idea.

"Don’t even think about it. Houses in Beijing City are rarely put up for sale. The only reason my mom managed to buy one was by pulling strings. If you’re going to disagree with this and disagree with that...

Then we don’t need my parents to give us the house. We’ll just consider its value as child support for our two kids. From now on, my parents can raise them. We won’t have to pay for anything, and we won’t take any of their money, either.

We’ll just rent a place. I’ll apply for housing from my work unit, and when my turn for an allocation comes up, we’ll have our own place."

Gao Lan’s expression immediately soured.

’Refuse a house from the Qin family? Give its cash value to the kids?’

’That’s completely unacceptable.’

’She married into the Qin family, only to end up renting someone else’s house.’

’Could a rental ever compare to a house from the Qin family?’

But seeing the look on her husband’s face—

"Fine, then have your mother arrange a house for us. I don’t want to rent. Also, let’s finalize the adoption of your eldest brother’s son in the next couple of days."

"We can’t deal with the adoption until you’re out of the hospital and have recovered. Otherwise, who’s going to take care of the child when he gets here? I have to work. Do you expect me to stop working just to look after your nephew?"

Gao Lan’s head snapped up when she heard that. "After the adoption, he won’t be your nephew. He’ll be our son."

She enunciated the last two words with heavy emphasis.

Qin Wenze: ...?

Gao Lan continued, "Since we’re adopting him, you have to treat him like your own flesh and blood. Whatever Qin Yue has, I expect my son to have as well. You need to treat them equally."

Qin Wenze: ...?

"The things Qin Yue has were saved up for him by his grandparents and great-grandparents. Your nephew—"

He took a deep breath. "If we really adopt him, I will treat him as my own son. Anything he gets will be an equal share of what *I* earn, split among the three children in our household. It does not mean he gets a share of the Qin family’s overall assets."

Gao Lan’s expression instantly turned ugly.

"Is that how it is for your younger brother’s two adopted children? If that’s the case for them too, then I have nothing more to say. They’re all adopted children. My request is simple: just treat them all the same."

Qin Wenze looked at Gao Lan’s face—and the shred of guilt he felt toward her began to slowly fade away.

"Gao Lan, we haven’t even adopted the boy yet, and you’re already thinking about him getting a piece of the Qin family’s fortune? If that’s what you’re thinking, then we can forget about the adoption. I won’t agree to it."

"And one more thing. The father of the two children my brother, Qin Wenhao, adopted was a hero. Don’t you ever use those two children in a comparison again."
