And just like that, she was 21.

Still no suitable husband in sight.

She had become the town spinster, all but unmarriageable.

She had long since come to hate her entire family.

She glanced coldly at the sick triplets, a dark thought surfacing. ’It would be better if they just died.’

Just then, a knock came from the door.

Song Anxiao’s expression soured.

’Who could be here at this hour?’

Taking a deep breath to suppress her anger, she went to open the door.

When she saw it was her eldest sister, Song Anning, her expression grew even fouler.

"What are you doing here?"

Normally, with their brother, Song Yan, away, the responsibility should have fallen to the eldest sister.

But as it turned out, her eldest sister was incredibly selfish.

Even though she was married and lived right here in town, she didn’t visit home even once a month.

And even when she did, she’d barely sit down before rushing off again.

"I have good news! I’ve found a wonderful match for you," Song Anning said, her face beaming.

Song Anxiao sneered. "A wonderful match? What kind of wonderful match could I possibly get in my situation?"

"Besides, if I get married, who’s going to run this household? You?"

Song Anning’s expression stiffened.

Of course she couldn’t take over running the house.

"Little sis, I know you’re resentful, but I’m in a tough spot, too. You know what your brother-in-law and my mother-in-law are like. Do you want to just stand by and watch my family fall apart?"

Song Anxiao was growing impatient. "Enough. Stop with all that. Just tell me why you’re here."

"You can’t marry out, but you could have a man marry into our family! If you agree, he could move in right away. Then the housework would be shared, right? Plus, a man can earn money for you. Isn’t that great?"

Song Anning’s words made Song Anxiao give her a sideways glance.

"You’re saying someone wants to marry into our family?"

Song Anning nodded quickly. "That’s right. He’s a decent-looking guy, two years older than you. He’s divorced, but he doesn’t have any kids. He’s from the countryside, but that’s a good thing! Country boys are strong, not to mention honest!"

Song Anxiao had always been rather proud, but that was a thing of the past.

Now, she was just sick of this family and sick of having to do everything herself.

So, after hearing the terms, she fell silent for a moment before finally asking, "What does he look like?"

Being from the countryside was one thing.

She could even reluctantly accept that he was divorced.

But if he was genuinely old and ugly, that was a dealbreaker.

She would rather stay single.

Seeing her sister’s tone soften, Song Anning’s eyes lit up. She immediately assured her, "Don’t worry, he’s good-looking. Would I ever try to harm you?"

Song Anxiao scoffed internally.

’As if she hasn’t caused me enough trouble already?’

"An Xiao, if you agree, I can have the matchmaker arrange for the man to come over and meet you tomorrow. What do you think? And don’t worry, if you’re not interested in him, we’ll call the whole thing off. No matter what, I’d never force you to marry someone you don’t want."

Song Anxiao didn’t quite believe her.

Just then, a loud THUD came from inside the house, immediately followed by a child’s loud wails.

The sound startled Song Anning.

She rushed into the room and found that all three triplets had fallen off the bed.

She went to pick one up and recoiled—the child was burning up.

She immediately shouted to her sister, "An Xiao, get in here! The triplets are running a high fever!"
