Chapter 439: Does He Hate Me?

Gao Lan had been married into the Qin family for quite some time now.

She had also learned some of the Qin family’s rules—for instance, the one about not speaking during meals.

Usually, no one spoke at the dinner table.

But now—with her sister-in-law back, they were all in a lively discussion. It was clear how happy they were about her return.

’Just as I thought, this family does play favorites.’

’And my sister-in-law is the same.’

The last time she came home, she had barely spoken to her.

Her replies never went beyond a simple "mhm" or "okay."

After dinner, Gao Lan stood up. "Mom, I’m going to take a walk outside to digest."

Mrs. Qin immediately replied, "Alright, but don’t go too far."

Gao Lan then looked at Qin Ruqiao. "Qiaoqiao, do you want to go for a walk outside with Mommy?"

Qin Ruqiao immediately shook her head.

She shrank into Mrs. Qin’s arms, clearly not wanting to go with her.

Gao Lan’s smile froze for a moment before she quickly nodded. "Alright then."

"I’ll go with you." Qin Wenze was a little worried, recalling how she had complained of a stomachache that morning.

His words made Gao Lan much happier.

’As long as my husband is thinking of me and cares about me, that’s enough.’

"You don’t have to. I’ll just take a short walk and be right back."

Qin Wenze walked right up to her. "Let’s go!"

Seeing this, Gao Lan had no choice but to follow him.

Once they were outside the compound, Qin Wenze turned his head to ask her, "Why did you eat so little at lunch?"

"I’m fine. I ate something this morning, so I wasn’t very hungry."

"Oh. Is your stomach still hurting?" Qin Wenze had never planned on having another child.

After all, ever since his daughter’s accident, she had been very insecure, even though she was better now.

The whole reason he had married Gao Lan was that he thought his daughter needed a mother’s care—she needed a mother’s love.

Perhaps, in a few years, once his daughter was a bit older, it would be fine for him and Gao Lan to have a child.

Unfortunately, plans can’t keep up with reality. He never expected that even though he’d been using contraception, this child had come as a surprise.

Now that she was pregnant, he couldn’t just make Gao Lan get an abortion.

Putting aside whether the family would agree or not, even Gao Lan herself—if he asked her to abort the child, she would definitely refuse.

If he forced her to get an abortion, wouldn’t she grow to resent him and the Qin family?

At that point, would she still be able to treat his daughter well?

So, this baby had to be kept.

"It doesn’t hurt anymore," Gao Lan replied.

An awkward silence followed.

Finally, she couldn’t help but ask, "Wenzhe, do you think your younger brother hates me?"

Hearing this, Qin Wenze couldn’t help but look at her. "Don’t overthink it. How could he? That’s just my brother’s personality. He’s cold to everyone except his wife."

Gao Lan didn’t think so.

’This was something she could feel.’

So she told him about how Qin Wenhao had called the house that morning and hung up as soon as he heard her voice.

Qin Wenze didn’t think it was a big deal.

"He’s not familiar with you yet, so of course he wouldn’t want to talk about their plans with you. It’s perfectly normal for him to hang up. Don’t take it to heart. Besides, he’s just your brother-in-law. They hardly ever come home all year. Why get worked up about this?"

But Gao Lan still felt very uneasy.
