Reborn in the 80s and Remarrying an Officer, Let the Ungrateful Cry!
Chapter 370: Old Man Fu is Dead
Qin Wenhao couldn’t help but chuckle at her look of terror.
It was the first time he’d ever seen her with such an expression.
"Don’t worry, you don’t have to go."
"Even if they come over to invite us to dinner, I’ll just turn them down."
"Alright, you turn them down, then. I really don’t want to go."
She wasn’t at all comfortable with these kinds of social obligations.
It made her feel like some kind of rare spectacle.
Worst of all, people would probe into her work, both openly and subtly—
and then press her about how she even became a teacher.
Just like his third and fifth aunts, and his younger sister, they were all asking how she’d managed to become a teacher again.
’Did they expect her to spell it out for every single one of them?’
If she had known so many people would be there, she would have just said she was too busy with work and declined the invitation.
Qin Wenhao was aware of his wife’s disposition. "Don’t worry. I won’t make you do anything you don’t want to. Today was the last time."
Fu Mingxue raised an eyebrow at his promise.
"Alright, I’ll hold you to that. I’m going to go wash up now."
Qin Wenhao nodded. "Okay."
For the next few days, Fu Mingxue’s life fell into a simple routine.
She taught at school during the day, went home in the evening, and occasionally went to the research institute.
As for her in-laws’ house—Mrs. Qin came over a few times to invite Fu Mingxue to dinner, but Fu Mingxue genuinely had no time.
She turned them all down.
Seeing this, Mrs. Qin stopped asking Fu Mingxue to come over for dinner.
Instead, she would personally make chicken soup or cook a few nutritious dishes and bring them over.
Sometimes, she would just buy food for Fu Mingxue.
This deeply touched Fu Mingxue—her mother-in-law was truly wonderful.
「The military family compound.」
Mrs. Fu was counting the days.
’Her daughter’s been gone for about ten days now, hasn’t she? She should be back in a few days, right?’
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
When Mrs. Fu heard the knock, she thought it was her next-door neighbor.
So she went to open the door.
She was a bit taken aback to see a young man standing there, and her first thought was that he’d come to tell her she had a phone call from her daughter or son-in-law.
Just as she was about to ask, the young man spoke up, "Ma’am, this is a telegram for you."
Mrs. Fu froze at his words.
’A telegram for me?’
’Did my daughter send me a telegram?’
"Young man, who’s it from? I don’t read very well. Could you please read it to me?"
’Someone has to read it to me anyway, so it might as well be this young man right here.’
After confirming with her one more time, the messenger opened the telegram.
"Ma’am, this telegram is from your old hometown, Pingkou Town. It says that Fu Mingxue’s grandfather has passed away and asks you to return home. It also says the funeral will be held in seven days."
Mrs. Fu was shocked.
’Old Man Fu is dead?’
’No, that’s not right!’
’How did the Fu family know they were stationed here?’
’Besides, in this heat, why wait so long for the burial? Are they just going to let the body rot?’
"Thank you, young man. I understand. But we don’t have any relatives. I’m sorry to have troubled you with this trip."
The messenger didn’t say anything more.
He said it was no trouble, then turned and left.
Before leaving, however, he handed the telegram back to Mrs. Fu.
Mrs. Fu clutched the telegram, sneering inwardly. ’The old bastard. Good riddance.’
’Still, how on earth did they know that she and Mingxue were here?’
She couldn’t figure it out.
"Ma’am, I just heard someone died? Which one of your relatives was it?" The question came from the nosy Zhu Xiaohong.
Mrs. Fu already had a very poor impression of her. "What’s it to you? You live by the sea or something? Your reach is certainly wide."
