The two of them finally came downstairs.

Mrs. Qin waved to Fu Mingxue. "Mingxue, come have some watermelon. It was just cut."

Fu Mingxue walked over and sat down beside Mrs. Qin.

She took the watermelon her mother-in-law handed her and took a bite. It was the grainy, sandy kind.

It was just the texture she liked.

"Mom, this watermelon is delicious."

"Have a couple of slices, but not too many. You need to save room for dinner."

"Okay!" Fu Mingxue polished off two slices of watermelon.

Just then, Mrs. Qin made an introduction to Fu Mingxue. "Mingxue, this is Wenze’s wife. The two of them just got their marriage certificate today."

When Gao Lan heard her mother-in-law introduce her to her new sister-in-law, she immediately sat up straight. She smiled and nodded at Fu Mingxue. "Hello, sister-in-law!"

Fu Mingxue also gave a slight nod. "Hello, sister-in-law."

Mrs. Qin saw that the two of them had now met.

She also knew that since they had just met, they wouldn’t have much to talk about.

So, she asked, "Mingxue, how many days are you staying this time?"

"I have a half-month vacation in total. I’m heading to the university tomorrow."

"Only half a month? Then just stay here at home for that time!"

Mrs. Qin’s words had barely left her mouth when Qin Wenhao rejected the offer. "No, we’re staying at our own place."

’He didn’t want to stay at the family home right now.’

’Just seeing Qin Wenze was annoying.’

’He couldn’t stand the thought of staying here for even a second.’

Mrs. Qin glared at him.

’Mingxue hadn’t even said anything. What right did he have to speak for her?’

She turned to look at her younger daughter-in-law, her eyes full of expectation—

Unfortunately, Fu Mingxue also preferred staying in their own house.

"Mom, I don’t think we’ll stay here this time. It’s a good chance for us to stay in our courtyard house and liven the place up a bit."

Hearing this, Mrs. Qin sighed internally. "Alright then! I’ll go with you this afternoon to help clean up—"

Once again, it was Qin Wenhao who refused. "No need. I can do it myself. Besides, if you were going to clean, why wait until we got here? Couldn’t you have done it yesterday or the day before?"

Fu Mingxue shot her husband a surprised look—’Was his tongue always this sharp?’

A vein throbbed on Mrs. Qin’s forehead.

’It really is better to miss someone than to see them,’ she thought. ’Then again, she hadn’t really missed him at all.’

’What was she supposed to do with this infuriating son? She really wanted to kick him.’

Gao Lan’s eyes were wide with shock—’Oh god, does my brother-in-law always talk to his mother like that?’

’It was simply beyond her imagination.’

’She decided it would be best to steer clear of this brother-in-law in the future—he was a little intimidating.’

Seeing her mother-in-law’s dark expression, Fu Mingxue immediately cut in, "Mom, don’t mind him. By the way, how are Grandpa and Grandma doing?"

The two elders were all smiles. "We’re both in great health. By the way, how is your mother? It must be exhausting for her, looking after two children."

Gao Lan: ...?

’Her sister-in-law is so young and already has two kids?’

’She was a little envious.’

She was already twenty-six. During her years in the countryside, many men had expressed interest in her, and plenty of people had tried to set her up.

But she hadn’t wanted to marry one of the other educated youths, nor did she want to marry a local villager.

’All she had ever wanted was to return to the city.’

’Even as the years passed and she got older.’

The villagers all called her an old maid who would never marry, but she didn’t care.

Now, she was glad she had held on all those years.

Even during the hardest, most bitter years, she never gave in and married just anyone.

Qin Wenze really hadn’t told Gao Lan much about Qin Wenhao.

So, Gao Lan truly had no idea that her brother-in-law’s two children were adopted.

And Mrs. Qin hadn’t intentionally told Gao Lan anything about her younger son and daughter-in-law’s affairs.

Truth be told, her impression of Gao Lan was just average.

After all, she was her eldest son’s choice—and besides, she had only spent a short time with this new daughter-in-law.

Furthermore—that first impression you get from someone is very important.

Mrs. Qin’s first impression of Fu Mingxue had been excellent; it was love at first sight, in a way.
