Chapter 265: How Come?

Fu Mingxue didn’t get home until five-thirty in the afternoon.

She glanced around but didn’t see her mother-in-law, Qin Wenshu.

She called out toward the kitchen:

"Mom, where’s my mother-in-law? Is she still at the hospital?"

The moment Mrs. Fu heard her daughter’s voice, she hurried out of the kitchen.

"Why didn’t you tell us you were going on a business trip?"

Fu Mingxue immediately admitted her mistake. "Mom, it honestly slipped my mind. I left in such a rush yesterday, I completely forgot to call you."

She should have called the base first yesterday to let them know.

"Mom, I’m sorry for making you worry. I promise it won’t happen again. If I have to go on a business trip or something, I’ll definitely leave a message for you or call the base."

Mrs. Fu wasn’t one to dwell on it. "That’s not necessary. As long as I know you’re alright, that’s all that matters!"

"Mom, it’s perfectly safe here. The base is so close, no one’s going to cause any trouble. From now on, if I don’t come back all night, it probably just means I’m busy."

"By the way, where’s my mother-in-law? Is she still at the hospital?"

Mrs. Fu shook her head. "She went back. Your father-in-law called the base after you left for work. He said there was a family emergency and she needed to go back as soon as possible, so she left early."

Fu Mingxue was surprised. "What happened?"

’If it were just something minor, my father-in-law wouldn’t have been in such a hurry to call and have her come back, would he?’

Mrs. Fu shook her head. "I don’t know. Your mother-in-law didn’t say, and I didn’t feel it was my place to ask."

Fu Mingxue couldn’t figure it out.

’Oh well. Since she wouldn’t say, it must be something she couldn’t talk about—it might be something to do with Qin Wenhao’s older brother’s family.’

"Mom, I’m going to take a shower first."

"Alright, go ahead. Dinner will be ready soon."

’Good thing I made some extra food earlier.’

’Now I just need to whip up a couple more dishes and we’ll be all set.’

Fu Mingxue hadn’t slept at all the previous night.

She had successfully formulated the material, but she felt there was still room for improvement, so she started experimenting right then and there.

In truth, she had only wanted to give it a try; she hadn’t expected it to actually work.

It had, however, taken her nearly a full day and night.

But it was all worth it.

Once the finished product was ready, it could be put to use.

Moreover, the material had an incredibly wide range of applications. It wasn’t just limited to engines; it could be used in various other fields as well.

She hadn’t felt tired before.

But now, after getting out of the shower, her whole body relaxed, and a wave of drowsiness washed over her—

Mrs. Fu brought out the food. "Mingxue, come and eat! Mingxue—"

She called twice but didn’t see anyone come out, so she went to the room.

As soon as she entered, she saw her daughter already fast asleep on the bed.

’So, should I wake her for dinner or not?’

Fu Mingxue was woken up the next morning by hunger.

When she opened her eyes, she lifted her arm to check her watch and was surprised to see it was already six in the morning.

’Did I fall asleep yesterday without eating dinner?’

’No wonder I’m so hungry now.’

She immediately got out of bed—

Mrs. Fu saw her come out. "Hurry and wash your face. Breakfast is ready."

"Okay, I’ll be right there." Fu Mingxue went to brush her teeth and wash her face.

After she was done, she saw that her mom had already set the breakfast on the table.

"Mom, this is so much food! I’m starving. Why is there chicken soup?"

"I made it last night. Go on, drink up."

When Mrs. Fu saw how exhausted her daughter was yesterday, she knew she had to make something nourishing to help her recover.

Fu Mingxue was indeed hungry, so she didn’t bother with talking.

Only after she finished breakfast did she sigh contentedly, "There’s no place like home!"
