Li Jing and Ruan Hongfei had never gotten along!

And now she saw that this man had actually come to ask about Ruan Hongfei.

Her expression immediately soured.

She sneered, "Are you her boyfriend?"

Qin Wenshu immediately shook his head in alarm. "No, how could I possibly be her boyfriend?"

Li Jing interrogated him, "Then why are you looking for her?"

Qin Wenshu quickly explained:

"I’m not looking for her! I’m just—I’m asking for a friend. His family is trying to arrange a blind date for him, and he’s looking for an excuse to say no. So when he heard I was coming here, he asked me to find out what kind of person she is. I heard she was expelled. Why was she expelled?"

Li Jing: ...?

"And who are you? Why are you on the base?"

Even though she didn’t get along with Ruan Hongfei, she wasn’t about to go gossiping about her to a random stranger.

"I’m Qin Wenshu, Qin Wenhao’s cousin."

Li Jing: ...?

Her face was a picture of pure astonishment.

Then, her gaze turned profound. "If you’re really Commander Qin’s cousin, then you shouldn’t be asking me about Ruan Hongfei. You should be asking your older cousin."

After saying this, she turned and left.

Qin Wenshu was dumbfounded. ’How could she just leave like that?’

’She could have at least explained things properly!’

’What did she mean, ask my cousin?’

But then again, he supposed she had a point.

’Wouldn’t asking my cousin be the easiest way to get answers?’

He stopped wandering around and returned to the small courtyard.

When he saw the two mothers-in-law were still sitting in the courtyard chatting,

he was at a loss for words. ’Do they really have that much to talk about?’

"Aunt, maybe I should go to the hospital! I can keep watch over Brother Wenhuo for the night."

’Even if there’s no room at the hospital, aren’t there guest houses nearby?’

Mrs. Qin was about to say he didn’t have to, but then it struck her that it wasn’t really appropriate for Qin Wenshu to be staying here.

So she nodded. "Alright, you should go now."

"Okay, great. I’ll leave right away."

Seeing that her in-law agreed, Mrs. Fu immediately said, "Wenshu, you should take the tricycle. It’s quite a long walk!"

If it had been anyone else, they might have politely declined.

But Qin Wenshu was different.

He had been eyeing that tricycle with quite a bit of envy.

Besides, how long would it take him to walk to the hospital?

’He was already exhausted, so wouldn’t walking just make him even more tired?’

"Okay, thank you, Auntie. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to lock the tricycle so no one can steal it."

Mrs. Fu: ...

’She was, in fact, a little worried.’

’Maybe she should just take him there herself.’

"Aunt, Auntie, I’ll be on my way then."

Qin Wenshu put his own suitcase back onto the tricycle.

Then he began pushing it toward the gate.

Just then, Fu Mingxue returned.

"Qin Wenshu, where are you going?"

Qin Wenshu was also very happy to see Fu Mingxue.

"Sister-in-law, you’re back from work."

His gaze then fell on the bicycle’s exceptionally bright headlamp, and he was shocked.

’You can do that? No wonder I thought it was so bright a moment ago.’

"Sister-in-law, you even installed a headlamp on your bike?"

"Yes, a lamp makes it easier to travel at night. By the way, you still haven’t said where you’re going. Surely you’re not heading to the hospital now?"

"—Yes." Qin Wenshu nodded.

"Don’t go. Comrade Zhao is over there. Besides, you’ve been on a train for two or three days; you must be exhausted. Just stay here. Didn’t my mom clear out a storage room? If you don’t mind, you can just make do there for one night."

’The three of them, the women, had two other rooms, so there was definitely enough space for everyone.’

Qin Wenshu grew bashful. "Ah, that... that wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?"
