Chapter 1783: Chapter 1172
Second Watch.

That night, Chuxia just couldn’t fall asleep. After hesitating for a moment, she quietly climbed down from her bunk. "What’s up?" Zhao Bingbing looked at her, totally puzzled, lowering her voice. "Didn’t we agree you’d stay here and sleep tonight?"
"You sleep." Chuxia patted her hand, got up and walked out. She was an auxiliary doctor, different from the regular nurses, so the team leader didn’t restrict her movements.
Besides, as the Division Commander’s Wife, even if she weren’t an auxiliary doctor, the team leader would still turn a blind eye.
Not at ease letting her go out alone, Zhao Bingbing and Wu Jingbo climbed up and followed her out. Lv Xiaomei hesitated for a moment, then tagged along at the end.
The team leader’s head was full of black lines. Was it really okay for you all to head out in a pack like this? If she tried to control them, she really couldn’t; if she didn’t, that didn’t feel right either... While she was still hesitating, the people had already disappeared out the door. The team leader wavered for a moment, then simply kept pretending to sleep.
After being together this long, she could tell these few had a close relationship and usually acted together, but never did anything out of line, so she decided to just let them be.
"You don’t need to follow me..." Chuxia looked back at the three sleepyheads yawning nonstop and smiled helplessly. "There’s nothing unsafe around here. What exactly are you worried about?"
Cupping her mouth as she yawned, Zhao Bingbing said, "The Division Commander specifically reminded us: at night we’re not to let you act alone. Whatever you’re going to do, we have to go with you."
"When did he tell you that?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ
"Just today."
"What exactly are you planning to do?" Wu Jingbo looked at Chuxia with open curiosity. "The moment the Division Commander called us in to give instructions, I was already wondering. If it weren’t something special, he absolutely wouldn’t do that."
Anyway, everyone would know about the vegetable-stealing first thing tomorrow morning, so Chuxia waved them over, pulled them into a little circle, and quietly explained Zhou Mikang and the others’ night operation.
"I wasn’t planning to go with them, I just don’t feel easy, so I wanted to go take a look. At the very least, I’ll know when they head out and have some idea in my head. Best case, they’d bring me along. If anyone gets hurt, I can at least be of some use."
"The Division Commander would never agree to that..." Zhao Bingbing curled her lip at her. "If he had his way, you would’ve been sent home long ago. And you still want to go steal vegetables with him? Ha..."
"Yeah, the Division Commander definitely won’t agree." Even Lv Xiaomei, who usually spoke the least, voiced her opinion. So Chuxia simply told the truth: "I was thinking of secretly trailing behind them. As long as I keep myself safe, it’s fine."
"Is your brain okay?" Wu Jingbo reached out to feel her forehead. "You’d just be making trouble if you went. The Division Commander already said they’re experienced, which means they really are. If you follow and get spotted by the enemy soldiers at the rear, it could seriously affect their operation. So I’ve got no problem with you going to wait in the Division Commander’s tent for us, but if you’re going to sneak into the team and tag along, I absolutely don’t approve."
Zhao Bingbing chimed in, "I feel the same way as Jingbo."
"I’m messing with you. You really thought I meant it?" Chuxia rolled her eyes at the two of them. "After being with me this long, you still can’t tell what’s a joke and what’s serious? You’re hopeless!"
The few of them: "..." Who plays pranks like this in the middle of the night?
"Okay, okay, I’ll stop teasing you. Why don’t we all go over together? Once they leave, we’ll wait over there. That way we’ll know the moment they come back."
Nobody had any objections to Chuxia’s suggestion, of course. Besides, they were all pretty interested in this vegetable-stealing mission. If it weren’t for the fact they had no real combat experience, they’d really want to sneak in and get a piece of the action.
Stealing stuff, and from the enemy no less—how thrilling is that?!
When they arrived, Zhou Mikang was just about to set off. Seeing the four of them, he clearly froze for a second, then frowned. "Not sleeping in the middle of the night—what are you doing running around?"
"We’re worried about you." Chuxia stared at him pitifully. "We want to go with you. Don’t worry, we definitely won’t cause trouble. Okay?"
"No." Without even thinking, Zhou Mikang rejected her flatly. "From now on, don’t you dare entertain that kind of idea. Otherwise, I won’t care whether you’re willing or not—I’ll just send you back by force."
"Tch..." Chuxia rolled her eyes. "Way to give me no face. I was just saying it casually. Did you really think we were going to go? It’s just, when I said that, they all said you’d definitely refuse, so I wanted to test it out."
