Chapter 1210: Chapter 921: Little Star Extra Story (12)
"Han Xingyue, congratulations on completing more than half of your subjects."
Upon receiving unanimous information from her teachers, Little Star was so happy she could almost fly. She used two and a half years to complete more than half of her subjects, and she believes it won’t take long to finish the remaining ones. You Jingyi deserves lots of credit for this. Returning home now, You Jingyi will surely be surprised.
This summer vacation she doesn’t want to work so hard, as You Jingyi told her that once she goes back, he would help her catch up. She wants to go back to see him.
Once Little Star finished packing, she took her works she’s satisfied with over the past few years and boarded the plane back home.
Besides, she has an event to attend when she returns. In May, she registered online for an art exhibition in Z City. She intends to bring her completed works to visit.
Little Star didn’t inform her family of her return. When she reached the door, Han Yi looked at his daughter, stunned.
"Why are you back at this time?"
"Dad, I’m on summer break, and this year’s academics aren’t tight, so I came back. Where are Mom and Dingding?"
Han Yi snapped back to reality and quickly helped his daughter with her belongings. Little Star noticed only her dad at home and said,
"Your mom went to Shanghai for an event and to visit your grandparents. She should be back in a couple of days. Dingding is with his team. Have you eaten yet?"
Little Star coyly hugged Han Yi’s arm and said, "Not yet, Dad. I want to eat the fish you make."
Being coaxed by his daughter in this way, Han Yi felt his heart melt. Even though he had eaten at the cafeteria, he hurried to buy ingredients for his daughter.
While Dad went to buy groceries, Little Star took a shower and then went to the kitchen to help Dad with preparations.
"Xingxing, is there anything special you need to do this time home?" While the father and daughter were busy in the kitchen, Han Yi asked. There has been a boy who occasionally appears in her periphery these past six months, whom he’s long wanted to discipline. But alas, his daughter is tight-lipped and hasn’t disclosed anything to the family. Even though he tried to stay calm, Han Yi broke his routine when it came to his daughter.
He felt a faint sense of urgency.
"Hmm, yes, there is. I’m going to participate in the art exhibition in our city in a few days. I still need another painting, so I’ll think about what to draw these days at home."
Han Yi furrowed his brows and said, "Art exhibition? Why didn’t you tell us earlier? Do you need our help with anything?"
"No need, Dad. As long as the painting is complete, other arrangements have been made. During the exhibition days, Dad and Mom can come to support your daughter."
"Hmm... we’ll definitely go."
Han Yi couldn’t fathom his child’s thoughts. Even at this stage, she’s still hiding things from them, while the guy on the other side has thoroughly understood their family. And yet, his daughter is just oblivious.
Little Star, of course, knew You Jingyi was aware of many things about her family. He tells her during every phone chat. Actually, she has planned for her parents to meet You Jingyi this summer. But she thought she would let him come after the exhibition.
This time coming back, she didn’t notify You Jingyi beforehand. She’s set up voicemail on his phone.
Since his daughter didn’t say anything, Han Yi could only sulk.
The next day, Little Star went to the exhibition hall to check things out, then visited Grandma’s house to let them know she was back.
For the remaining days, she buried herself in completing her final exhibit painting, which depicted ordinary farmers harvesting wheat.
The vast wheat fields outside their courtyard were exactly what she would focus on, and these days coincidentally caught farmers harvesting wheat. So these days, she sat by the window at home, gazing into the distance for her painting.
By the time Lin Wan returned, Little Star’s painting was already halfway done.
A few days ago, Han Yi had called her, mentioning their daughter’s return, so she didn’t linger there and came back quickly.
Along with her, coming back were Grandma and Uncle Hu, but they didn’t stop here and went straight back to S City.
In Xiao Dung’s place, the kids are grown and don’t need much care, so the elderly couple can relax a bit. Lijuan’s child isn’t as big as Xiao Dung’s, but they’ll be heading to junior high soon. Grandma plans to stay in S City for two months and then visit her daughter’s place. Conveniently, she’ll travel with Uncle Hu.
"When does it start? This painting looks good. Can you finish in time?" Lin Wan asked, looking at her daughter’s painting.
"Mom, I can. It’ll be done by the day after tomorrow, and there’s still a week until the exhibition. I’ve communicated with the person in charge, and I just need to deliver the painting the day before."
"Okay, we’ll accompany you for setup when the time comes."
"Great." Little Star replied with a nod, her mouth moving. She finally gathered the courage to open up to her mom.
"...Mom. I... I have something I want to tell you."
"Hmm, tell me. Mom’s listening." Lin Wan had been waiting for this day. Compared to her, Han Yi seemed more anxious, but today, as soon as she came back, her daughter pulled her aside to talk about this. She wondered if Han Yi would be upset once he finds out.
"I... I want to introduce someone to you guys after a few days."
Lin Wan sighed helplessly. Their daughter is nothing like her and Han Yi in this regard. When they were younger, both were proactive in confessing to each other, but when it came to their daughter, she’s hesitated.
Lin Wan probably forgot, after she and Han Yi confirmed their relationship, they kept it from the family for a long time.
Lin Wan was getting anxious herself and didn’t wait for the child to speak, asked cautiously, "Is it a boy?"
Little Star was surprised for a moment, and thought to herself that Dad and Mom indeed found out, but she still shyly nodded and said softly, "I... I have a boyfriend."
"Hmph, how long have you been dating?" Seeing her daughter finally willing to talk, Lin Wan glanced at her, somewhat annoyed.
"Almost a year. We met over there, and he’s in Z City now too."
"Bring him over to take a look after your exhibition ends." Over here, Little Star and Lin Wan were talking in the house, and somehow, Han Yi suddenly appeared at the door with a stern face and said something that startled Little Star.
Feeling uneasy, she replied with an "Oh," responding to Dad’s words.
She thought for sure Dad and Mom were angry, but she wasn’t worried about herself, she figured You Jingyi would have a rough time.
Little Star was planning to go find him after finishing this painting. Unexpectedly, she just mentioned the situation with You Jingyi’s family to Dad and Mom.
There was a sudden series of rapid knocks at the door.
Lin Wan thought it might be her son returning. She got up to open the door, and standing there was, surprisingly, the boy Han Yi had been scrutinizing with his peripheral vision for half a year.
Well, this is convenient, he came straight to the house, just happened to be here at the wrong time.
"Hello Auntie, I’m Star’s friend. Has she mentioned anything about the family lately..." You Jingyi was asking Lin Wan urgently, but before he could finish, he caught sight of Little Star in the living room.
You Jingyi was overjoyed, disregarding any formality as he rushed inside, "Star, you scared me, I hadn’t been able to reach you for several days, I thought something happened to you."
"Jingyi, I wanted to surprise you. Didn’t think it would scare you."
"It’s all good." You Jingyi smiled and didn’t tell Little Star that he was so worried after two days of not reaching her, he had cold sores on his lips. He tried to get his friends to check on Little Star, but they all said there was no one there. He had considered Little Star might have returned, waited two days for her to contact him, but not a single message came.
He was really too worried, so he had no choice but to come here; he struggled quite a bit when he first arrived, indeed he was frightened.
"Cough..."
In the room were four people, under the premise that their parents were present, this young man was gazing affectionately at his daughter, ignoring everyone else. Han Yi couldn’t stand it.
"...Uh, Dad, Mom, his name is You Jingyi, the person I was just talking about... my partner." A cough brought the two young ones back to reality. Little Star quickly distanced herself from You Jingyi upon seeing her father’s displeased face.
"Hello Uncle, Auntie." You Jingyi nodded courteously, greeting Han Yi and Lin Wan.
Han Yi still had a stern face and replied with a grunt, staring intently at You Jingyi. Even the typically composed and confident You Jingyi was feeling a bit uneasy.
Seeing that the boy was about to break a sweat, Han Yi glanced out the window and reminded, "It’s getting late."
You Jingyi understood quickly and smiled, "Uncle, Auntie, I came in a hurry today, next time I’ll visit properly."
Little Star saw the situation clearly, quickly pulled You Jingyi to leave, "Dad, Mom, I’ll walk him out first."
"Ten minutes." Han Yi said as he watched his surprised daughter step out the door.
"Oh, okay, got it, Dad." Little Star replied as she walked out the door.
Watching the two of them eagerly leave their sight, Han Yi snorted and turned to go back inside.
Lin Wan thought he was upset, after closing the door, she returned to the room and saw him standing by the window, looking down.
Lin Wan walked over and happened to see their daughter just going downstairs.
Lin Wan smiled and said, "I think this boy is pretty good, quite attentive to our Star."
Han Yi was dismissive, as a man, he knows what men generally think, "Did you hear just now? He called our daughter Star, is Star really what he should call her?" Han Yi felt You Jingyi was taking over his privilege, Star was meant to be their family’s exclusive nickname.
Lin Wan gave him a sideways glance, "When we first met, you called me more affectionately than my mom and brother did."
"That’s different."
"How is it different?"
"I was sincere, hearts are hidden, who knows how much true affection this boy has for our daughter. Our daughter is so beautiful, what if he’s only interested in her appearance?"
"..., are you saying I wasn’t pretty back then?"
"...." Han Yi furrowed his brow, realizing he’d misspoken, quickly consoling, "Of course you were also beautiful, otherwise how could I have been so infatuated. I was just expressing my concern; it’s difficult to keep a grown woman at home, look at our daughter, seeing that boy, it’s like she’s lost her soul."
