’Lazy, shiftless, and with no proper job. Are the standards for the Governor Mansion really that low? To accept a son-in-law like him?’

"Alright, that’s enough. What’s done is done. Saying more about Gao Qiang won’t help. We need to think of a way to make up for this," Mr. Gao said, tugging on Mrs. Gao’s arm.

"How can we make up for it? Offending the Qiao Family is the same as offending the Governor Mansion," Mrs. Gao said.

The current lady of the Governor Mansion was a Qiao.

"Our Qiang’er is so handsome and talented. Why can’t he be the Governor Mansion’s son-in-law?" Grandma Gao was filled with pride. ’My grandson might not be the most outstanding, but he’s not that bad either.’

’Still dreaming of becoming the Governor Mansion’s son-in-law?’ Mrs. Gao was utterly speechless. She walked over to the side and sat down.

’It was already a stretch for her son to marry Xu Jiali, and now he was thinking about Qiao Wei. Was Qiao Wei someone they could afford to provoke?’

’If he really married Qiao Wei, forget her son getting cuckolded—the roof of their entire Gao family would probably be a sea of green.’

’The other branches of the family might pretend to be envious that they were becoming in-laws with the Governor Mansion, but who knows how they’re secretly mocking our main branch.’

"Mom, please don’t meddle anymore." Even Mr. Gao felt his mother’s words were unrealistic.

"Is your son that bad?" Grandma Gao asked Mr. Gao.

Mr. Gao fell silent. ’Bad or not, don’t you have any idea?’

"Qiang’er, tell your Granny all about you and Qiao Wei," Grandma Gao said, looking at Gao Qiang with a benevolent expression.

Gao Qiang thought about it carefully. There really wasn’t anything between him and Qiao Wei. She had just gotten close to him and batted her eyes, and he’d been completely bewitched. At her instigation, he had lost his mind and unleashed a torrent of heartless words at Xu Jiali.

Now, thinking back on the things he had said to Xu Jiali, he wanted to slap himself to death. He had been such an asshole.

’Even if we couldn’t get married, I shouldn’t have hurt her. Couldn’t we have just broken up peacefully? Why did I have to say all those awful things?’

Grandma Gao was daydreaming, but this time, Mr. Gao didn’t let his mother get lost in her fantasy. "Mom."

"Shut up," Grandma Gao snapped at Mr. Gao.

"We can’t afford to offend the Qiao Family, and we certainly can’t afford to offend the Governor Mansion," Mr. Gao said with a solemn expression.

"If Qiang’er marries the young lady from the Governor Mansion, the Mansion will favor us. Why would we still be afraid of the Qiao Family?" Grandma Gao looked down on Mr. Gao, as if Gao Qiang and Qiao Wei’s marriage was already in the bag.

Mr. Gao’s face twisted. "Mom, stop dreaming! That’s the Governor Mansion we’re talking about."

"So what if it’s the Governor Mansion? Qiao Wei fell for our Qiang’er at first sight. Are they really going to break up such a perfect pair?" Grandma Gao was already concocting another brilliant plan in her head.

The door to Gao Qiang’s hospital room was open, and so was the door to Qin Xiang’s. Hearing Grandma Gao’s words, Brother Xiong couldn’t resist running over to retort. "Sister Qiao would fall for him? Is Sister Qiao blind? Or are you just daydreaming, old lady?"

Who was Qiao Wei? Even he had to respectfully call her Sister Qiao.

For people like them who ran in the underworld, age didn’t make you the boss—ability did. And he was in awe of Qiao Wei’s ability, not to mention her indestructible backing from the Governor Mansion.

Anyone who dared to provoke Qiao Wei was tired of living.

"Who are you?" Grandma Gao’s gaze was sharp as she sized up Brother Xiong. He was big and burly, his clothes were gaudy, and he wore a thick gold chain around his neck. He looked like a gangster at first glance.

Grandma Gao looked down on small-time thugs the most, so she naturally didn’t give Brother Xiong a pleasant look.

Brother Xiong spat on the ground. "I’m your grandpa."

"You..." Humiliated, Grandma Gao raised her Buddha Beads, about to strike Brother Xiong as if she were disciplining her own grandson.

Her descendants in the Gao family might spoil her, but Brother Xiong wouldn’t.

Brother Xiong snatched the Buddha Beads and yanked hard. Being elderly, Grandma Gao stumbled a few steps from the force. Luckily, Mr. Gao caught her, or she would have fallen.

"What are these stupid beads? Are you crazy? Using this as a weapon?" Holding the Buddha Beads, Brother Xiong pulled hard and snapped the string. The small beads scattered across the floor. He stepped on a few, grinding them under his foot. ’The quality’s pretty good, they didn’t break.’

"You..." Seeing her Buddha Beads destroyed, the blood rushed to Grandma Gao’s head, and she fainted.

"Mom!" Mr. Gao cried out, worried and anxious.

"Granny!" Gao Qiang also shouted anxiously.

"I’ll get a doctor," Mrs. Gao said, running out of the room.

The culprit, Brother Xiong, glanced at the fainted Grandma Gao, stuck his hands in his pockets, and whistled as he strolled back to where he came from.

Dean Zhang brought an elderly man and woman to the hospital. He didn’t take them to Xu Jiali’s room, but rather brought them before Qin Mei.

"Grandpa, Grandma." Qin Mei wasn’t surprised to see the two elders. Looking at her grandmother’s red, swollen eyes, it was clear she had been crying hard.
