Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man

Chapter 662 - 230: I’m Not Incapable

The one Qin Mei had been taking care of wasn’t him, but Xie Jingchen.

’Enough, enough. Stop thinking about what happened at Modu Hospital. It’ll just depress me to no end.’

In short, without that trip to Shanghai, he would have been in Shijiu City, and she would have been at her older sister’s in-laws’ home. They would have become the most distant couple in the world.

The only outcome would have been divorce.

"Grandma." Jie Jingchen wanted to explain, but on second thought, he decided it wasn’t necessary. ’If everyone thinks I can’t have children, I’ll just let them. It’ll save me from them pressuring us to have a baby.’

"Jing Chen, you should have your wife take a look at you," his grandmother said. "I heard from your mother that your wife’s medical skills are extraordinary. Your cousin had that hidden ailment for years, but after your wife treated him, his wife got pregnant a month later."

Jie Jingchen hadn’t wanted to bring up Jie Anlin, worried that his grandmother would go and bother Qin Mei. But now, he decisively shared the secret Qin Mei had told him.

"Grandma, Meimei told me she didn’t actually cure my cousin’s hidden ailment."

"What?" His grandmother was shocked. Then, she asked in confusion, "Then if his wife is pregnant, whose baby is it?"

"I don’t know whose baby it is, but I know it’s definitely not his," Jie Jingchen said with conviction. He was sure that Qin Mei wouldn’t lie.

His grandmother fell silent, the expression on her face priceless. ’Public morals are in decline, and people aren’t what they used to be.’

Jie Jingchen got up and went upstairs to take an afternoon nap with his wife.

Jie Jingchen opened the door to see Qin Mei lying on the bed, her eyes wide open as she stared blankly at the ceiling.

Hearing the door open, Qin Mei didn’t react. ’Who else but Jie Jingchen would dare to just walk in without knocking?’

"Can’t sleep?" Jie Jingchen walked over and sat on the edge of the bed.

"I was just thinking about something," Qin Mei replied.

"What are you thinking about? Tell me, I can help," Jie Jingchen coaxed.

"Making money." Qin Mei turned her head to the side, tossing out the two words perfunctorily.

"That’s easy. I’ll just tell Grandpa and Grandma you like money. They’ll definitely indulge you." Jie Jingchen slipped into bed, lifted the covers, and lay down beside Qin Mei.

"If your grandpa and grandma give me money, that’s a gift, not something I’ve earned," Qin Mei said, annoyed. ’If he tells them I like money, I doubt they’ll indulge me. They’ll probably just suspect I had ulterior motives for marrying him.’

’Qin Mei didn’t know what the original owner’s motive was for drugging Jie Jingchen and forcing him to marry her. But her own motive was crystal clear: money was secondary. She was in it for his looks.’

’If Jie Jingchen were rich but ugly as sin, even if they didn’t divorce, their marriage would have been in name only. She couldn’t even stand the thought of sleeping with an ugly man with her eyes closed.’

"How do you want to make money?" Jie Jingchen asked, gazing at her gently.

Qin Mei fell silent. ’The Reform and Opening-Up policy hasn’t been implemented yet, so I can only dabble in small-time ventures. Xiangjiang is a different story, but without enough capital, I can’t accomplish anything major there either.’

’Am I supposed to ask Jie Jingchen’s grandparents for a loan to start a business? They’d probably just find a job for me, or maybe even ask me to manage the Qiao Family’s affairs. Don’t I know my own limitations? I shouldn’t bite off more than I can chew.’

With a quick movement, Qin Mei rolled over and knelt on the bed, a radiant smile blooming on her face as she looked at Jie Jingchen.

Jie Jingchen’s scalp prickled. The brighter her smile, the more he suspected she was up to no good.

"Take me to..." Qin Mei leaned down, pressing against Jie Jingchen as she whispered in his ear.

When he heard the place Qin Mei mentioned, Jie Jingchen’s expression changed instantly, and he flatly refused. "Absolutely not."

Jie Jingchen’s refusal was just what she’d expected. A wicked smile played on Qin Mei’s lips as her slender fingers traced a line across his face, her touch full of temptation. "Jie Jingsi, are you sure you don’t want to reconsider?"

"I’m not reconsidering," Jie Jingchen said, closing his eyes to avoid her tempting gaze.

"Are you sure?" The pad of her finger traced over his strong jawline before coming to rest on his sexy Adam’s apple.

Qin Mei gently caressed his Adam’s apple for a while, until she heard the sound of his steady breathing. He had fallen asleep. He had actually fallen asleep in the middle of her seduction. The smile froze on her lips, her expression twisting with frustration.

’He can’t normally resist her temptations. She had clearly felt his body react, yet here he was, putting on a show of being asleep for her. He had to be faking it, right?’

But she had no proof.

Qin Mei wanted to slap him awake. But then she remembered how they had been up for a long time last night. She had woken up from hunger, and he hadn’t been beside her. He must not have gotten much sleep.

Looking at his captivatingly handsome face and seeing the exhaustion etched between his brows, Qin Mei’s heart softened.

’Oh well,’ she thought. ’I’ll just settle the score with him when he wakes up.’

Qin Mei slid off him, pulled the covers over him, and then lay down by his side and closed her eyes. With him there, she felt at ease, and it wasn’t long before she fell asleep.
