Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man
Chapter 642 - 223: Maternal Grandfather’s Serious Illness (4)
"My mom is worried about Grandfather. She can’t wait for Jing Wu, so we’re going to Xiangjiang first to check on his condition. If it’s not good, we’ll send someone back for Jing Wu," Jie Jingchen said.
Since Jie Jingchen had put it that way, if they kept fussing, she’d be committing a cardinal sin.
Qin Mei braced herself and climbed into the helicopter. Jie Jingchen paused for a second, then quickly climbed in after her.
Qin Mei was both excited and nervous. She clutched a spittoon in one hand, while Jie Jingchen held her other. She had mentally prepared herself to vomit her guts out with no regard for her image if she got airsick. However, Qin Mei didn’t get sick. Instead, overcome by the mix of excitement and tension, she fell asleep leaning against Jie Jingchen.
"Meimei, wake up."
Hearing Jie Jingchen’s deep, rich, and gentle voice, Qin Mei slowly awoke. She opened her drowsy eyes and gazed at him in a daze.
"We’re here," Jie Jingchen said.
’Here? Where is here?’ Qin Mei didn’t register it at first. Then, as if waking from a dream, it all came rushing back to her.
Qin Mei tapped her forehead. ’I actually fell asleep on the helicopter.’
Qin Mei shot to her feet. "Ah!"
"Careful." Jie Jingchen’s warning came a moment too late. Qin Mei had hit her head.
After making sure she hadn’t cut her head, Jie Jingchen led Qin Mei out first, followed by Mrs. Xie and Jie Jingshan.
Standing beside Jie Jingchen, Qin Mei was taken aback by the scene before them. A butler stood at the head of a line of servants, all dressed in uniform and arranged in two neat rows. They shouted in unison, "Eldest Miss, Eldest Young Master, Eldest Young Madam, Miss, welcome home."
’A whole welcome ceremony, really.’ Qin Mei didn’t even need to think to know that "Eldest Miss" was Mrs. Xie, "Eldest Young Master" was Jie Jingchen, "Eldest Young Madam" was her, and "Miss" was Jie Jingshan.
Jie Jingchen was the fourth son in the Jie Family, but in the Qiao Family, he was the eldest.
’The Qiao Family is seriously rich, beyond anything I could have imagined. Look at all these servants, and this house... Is this even a house? It’s more like a manor.’
The Qiao Family moved to Xiangjiang to enjoy the life of the elite. If they hadn’t had the foresight and had stayed in Huaxia, their fate wouldn’t have been good, even as red capitalists.
"Don’t be scared." Jie Jingchen squeezed Qin Mei’s hand, his voice gentle.
Qin Mei looked up, turned her head to gaze at Jie Jingchen, and rolled her eyes. ’Am I scared? No, I’m just in shock, okay?’
’With the Qiao Family’s fortune, forget slacking off at work—Jie Jingchen could do absolutely nothing and still have enough money to spend like water.’
’No wonder Jie Jingchen’s Granny wanted to bleed the Qiao Family dry. If his Granny saw this spectacle, she’d probably be sprinting down that path instead.’
The butler stepped forward. His gaze swept over Jie Jingshan, who was standing beside Mrs. Xie, a flicker of surprise in his eyes, followed by relief. He then stood respectfully before Mrs. Xie. "Eldest Miss, the Master and Madam have been waiting for a long time."
"Uncle Qiao, how is my father’s health?" Mrs. Xie’s beautiful eyes were filled with worry.
The butler’s expression was a little strange. "Eldest Miss, it would be best if you went to see for yourself."
Qin Mei looked at the butler in surprise. ’Why does he look strange, not sad?’
Mrs. Xie didn’t see her nanny among the crowd and asked the butler, "Where’s Nanny?"
Afraid of giving the game away, the butler didn’t answer Mrs. Xie’s question and instead urged her to go see the Master and Madam.
Mrs. Xie sensed that something was off but didn’t press the butler. She led Jie Jingchen, Qin Mei, and Jie Jingshan toward the house nearby.
To Qin Mei, who was from a later era, the house’s architecture was very old-fashioned, yet every detail reeked of money.
Mrs. Xie led them straight up to the second floor, where they ran into the nanny in the hallway.
"Eldest Miss." Upon seeing Mrs. Xie, the nanny’s lips trembled with emotion, and she looked at her with teary eyes.
