Madam Qin, fully aware that her behavior had been inappropriate, still felt relieved that Old Madam Qin had intervened in time. Otherwise, had she gone, she certainly would have caused embarrassment for Commander Xia in front of Sun Xueqing, leading to a loss of face for both families.

“Do you know why I kept you here?” Old Madam Qin asked.

Madam Qin hesitated for a moment and then nodded her head.

“As for Dingkang’s daughter-in-law, I initially just thought that your obsession with social status was a bit excessive, but as a mother, I could understand your actions, and there wasn’t anything inherently wrong with them; I didn’t reprimand you either. But how come you became so muddled this early in the New Year?”

Old Madam Qin still didn’t reveal Ye Jian’s identity and was simply discussing the matter with Madam Qin. It was a family affair, after all, and needed to be dealt with behind closed doors, discussed thoroughly, to prevent Madam Qin from fixating on the wrong ideas and stirring up unnecessary trouble.

Old Madam Qin intended to teach her daughter-in-law a lesson, and Madam Qin herself felt somewhat aggrieved. She hadn’t done anything to Ye Jian, merely expressing her disapproval.

Moreover, she genuinely didn’t understand. It seemed clear to her, so why couldn’t Old Madam Qin, as astute and capable as she was, see it as well?

Could it be that because of old age, she was more easily deceived?

Of course not!

Just a moment ago, Madam Qin had barely mentioned her thoughts when Old Madam Qin immediately saw through them, firmly detaining her and forbidding her from going to the Fu family, lest she cause trouble.

With this skilled move alone, Old Madam Qin hadn’t changed; she remained as difficult to deceive as before.

Deciding not to hide her thoughts any longer, and knowing she couldn’t keep them concealed, she figured it would be better to be straightforward.

“Old Madam, I was just a bit too anxious. Early in the morning, I saw Ye Jian in our Dan Gui Garden, accompanied by Commander Xia’s grandson, Li Jinnian. That’s why I rushed. Ye Jian had previously had an unclear relationship with our Xiu, and afterward became Little Six’s girlfriend. But now, so early in the morning, she’s out running with the Li family boy. I was worried that he might be deceived by her.”

“Old Madam, I truly feel that the girl is not as simple as she seems, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to remind them while visiting Commander Xia to offer New Year’s greetings.”

Old Madam Qin sighed and shook her head. “Dingkang’s daughter-in-law, let’s not even mention that this is someone else’s family matter, and there’s no need for you to worry so much about it. Furthermore, do you really think you understand Ye Jian’s character better than Old Man Xia of the Fu family?”

Old Madam Qin’s words struck home.

Although Old Madam Qin didn’t know what the Fu family was planning or why they hadn’t announced Ye Jian’s identity yet, she knew that the Fu family had its reasons. Even though they had been neighbors for many years with a close relationship, it wasn’t their place to inquire or intervene in such matters.

Even though Ye Jian’s identity hadn’t been publicly disclosed, Old Man Xia absolutely adored her. If Dingkang’s daughter-in-law really charged in on the first day of the New Year and tried to stir trouble for Ye Jian, the bond between the two families would become irreparably strained.

“I, I…” Madam Qin prided herself on being well-informed, but if she were truly to face Old Man Xia of the Fu family, she knew her knowledge would amount to nothing, and she genuinely had no rebuttal to the situation.

“But I really did have the best intentions,” Madam Qin said hesitantly after some time.

“Dingkang’s daughter-in-law, you’re a grown adult; you should know that often, well-intentioned actions lead to problems. It’s one of the simplest truths,” replied Old Madam Qin.
