Chapter 810: Making a phone
Chapter 810: Making a phone
Although Michael called it a ’battery’, in truth, it was actually just a bomb that was a lot less volatile to explode.
Back when he was first experimenting with Unity, he found that if he created a small enough sample with all eight elements, it wouldn’t just explode outright with the smallest of bumps. It could give a reliable source of limitless energy.
The only downside this had was the amount of power that could be produced, making it useless for things that needed lots of electricity like refrigerators, cars, etc.
It was only used as a battery for small trinkets like the Reborn watches and flashlights.
And it just so happened that it was perfect for a smartphone.
Michael raised his hand, motes of light gathering at his palms. All eight mana swirled in the air above before shooting down towards his hands, gathering into a small clump of prismatic light.
A single bead of sweat poured down his forehead, his eyes filled with concentration as the motes of light started to shake and vibrate. It was always dangerous during this phase.
Finally, Michael used his Supreme Talent to create an immense pressure that began the crystallization process of the Unity.
A few seconds later, the light dimmed and created a marble-like solid with a prismatic gleam.
With this crystallized Unity in his hands, the phone’s power source was finally created.
Let’s see if this works, he said as he moved the crystallized Unity towards the cube.
As soon as it made contact, the cube emanated a golden glow and began spinning at three times its normal rate. It had successfully registered with the cube!
What now?
[The Unity Power Source can now send signals back and forth through all the other entities registered within the cube.]
He then summoned all five of his [Unity Clones] but they remained silent. They weren’t receiving any signal from the Power Source.
Ah… it’s because it hasn’t been turned on, he realized.
He teleported back into the Nation of Reborn and retrieved a single light bulb and brought it back to the Drone’s Pocket Dimension.
Then, he attached the Unity PS (Power Source) on the bottom of the bulb, making it light up instantly.
And in that moment, Michael finally received a signal with his Unity Clones.
They all heard a constant buzzing sound, similar to the sound of electricity running through an open ground.
If the lightbulb was turned on, then it would emit a buzzing sound. If it wasn’t, then it would send out nothing but silence.
This could work, he rejoiced.
After all, this could basically work as the ones and zeroes of computers! If he could somehow program the Unity PS to emit its power only at a certain time, then he could create a complex system that resembled a simple circuit computing system!
ChatJK5, do you think this could work?
[Yes, Michael. Your idea is easy to execute,] she said.
With her approval, Michael created another Unity PS to experiment with. This time, he requested a little adjustment in the Magic Theory.
Can you make the Unity PS that…
It took ChatJK5 a few minutes before she was able to come up with an alteration.
Then, he started with the experiment.
He created two identical sets of Unity PS and light bulbs on opposite sides of the field.
Then, he approached the light bulb on one of the sets and began to flick it on and off in a very noticeable pattern.
On, off, on off…
And not even a second later, the light bulb on the other side of the field flickered on and off at the same exact pattern and timing!
It worked!
Michael was able to create a simple communication device! With a little bit more tweaking, he could turn this little experiment into a workable messaging service with the phone!
All he needed to do was create a piece of electrical circuitry that translated the signal coming from the Unity PS into a mobile screen that could display letters, images, and a lot of other things!
He proved that text messaging could work with this phone. But he didn’t want that to be the full extent of its capabilities.
He wanted voice calls, video chats, camera captures, and other stuff that a normal modern phone could do.
Of course, that was easier said than done. The complexity of that technology was not something that could be done overnight… if you were a human, which ChatJK5 was not.
[Creating technology…]
[Completed!]
A few seconds later, Michael felt a cool sensation wash over his head as multiple blueprints and circuit boards appeared in his mind.
It was a phone, though not the modern one that he was used to. This iteration of the phone could be considered as a ’brick’ in terms of its thickness and size.
[Creating a much slimmer and more complex phone will require more experiments and iterations with the Unity PS] ChatJK5 said, disappointed in herself.
Hey, I’m not complaining. This phone is already amazing!
This phone had a keyboard on the bottom, a white screen at the top, and a small trackpad in the middle.
According to the blueprints ChatJK5 gave him, this phone could send and receive text messages without problem.
In this iteration, each Unity PS inside the phone was registered with a unique identification number. So as long as someone used that number, they could communicate with each other through text.
Michael saw a 3d representation of the phone appear in his vision. And as he turned it around, he saw a single camera lens that was almost as wide as the phone itself.
You implemented a camera in the phone? How’d you do that?
He only proved that text messaging could work with the Unity Power Source. He didn’t know yet how to make videos and photos on the phone.
[It’s easy. I was able to use the Magic Theory from the Unity Clones as a foundation on the changes I made on the Unity Power Source.
I used the eyes on the clones and changed it so that the Unity PS could accept visual information. I did the same with the ears and the mouth, allowing the phone to be able to process sounds and make noise.]
Suffice it to say, Michael was very impressed. She was able to create a fully functional phone in less than a few hours. This was impressive because the phone used a completely different form of technology than the modern ones in his previous life!
I have to make this right now, he decided.
Without further ado, he exited the Pocket Dimension and teleported himself to the Dwarven Forge in the Nation of Reborn.
There, he greeted the Dwarves and helped himself to the numerous raw ores and materials they had in store. He picked out some copper, aluminum, iron, and other alloys he needed.
And finally, he took with him a small piece of Mithril.
Now, this phone could work totally fine without Mithril. However, if he wanted to commercialize it to the rest of the world, he had to make sure that it wouldn’t accidentally explode after a few bumps and scratches. After all, it did use Unity as its battery.
So, he needed to encase the Unity PS in Mithril to make it foolproof.
