Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family

Chapter 601: Thread snap

Chapter 601: Thread snap

Michael looked at his hands, the fleeting power still lingering on the back of his mind.

For a brief and momentary second, he felt a tremendous power gathering at his fingertips. It was as if reality itself was behind his will, allowing him to mold it to fit his desires.

The feeling behind the ’Quantum Step’ was an extremely different feeling from all of his other Aubilites. The switch and the reverse block were powerful and affected the world around him. But this Aubility affected his very hands, as if he had become the power that could transcend reality.

And to be honest, it was an intoxicating feeling. Even when he had only achieved a cusp of the true power that the ’Quantum Step’ held, it was still the most powerful technique he had ever performed.

He wanted to complete it. How powerful would he feel after he performed it just the way as Harbinger did it?

And just like before, he concentrated and willed a thread of AP towards his wrist, the second time a lot easier than the first.

Power gathered at his hands, with reality starting to warp around his wrists.

Now, he just needed to pull at the space in front of him and allow him to ’step’ through it.

He braced himself, gathering more power at his hands and grabbing the space forcefully.

However, the thread snapped in half all the same.

It couldn’t handle the power.

Performing the ’Quantum Step’ felt like trying to jump on a paper floor that could rip apart in any second.

If he was careful, then he could slowly tip toe his way through the paper floor without it ripping.

If he wanted to perform the Quantum Step, then he needed to jump. But to do that, he needed to briefly put an enormous amount of force through his feet to get the necessary lift to jump high up in the air.

But the moment he gathered power at his feet, the paper would rip through, and he would fall into the abyss.

That was what he felt like trying to perform the ’Quantum Jump’. His threads were just far too thin.

What’s happening? Why can’t I do it? he asked Harbinger.

The giant futuristic mechanical Diva looked down at him.

[My techniques are too powerful for your current state. You do not have enough Aubility Power to properly execute it]

This immediately put a damper in his mood. So the solution is that I need to advance more stages in my cultivation?

That was the only way to improve a Maugnetic’s Aubility Power.

He’d need to find more GodForge pieces in order to transcend to the next stage.

But even then, he was slightly skeptical that he’d have enough AP to pull it off. ’Quantum Step’ was a technique that required a tremendous amount of power—something he didn’t have.

You knew that I didn’t have enough AP to do it, Harbinger. Why did you even teach me that technique if you knew I wouldn’t be able to execute it?

Harbinger’s eyes shone through the dark fog, showing him a smile.

[Kukuku… just because you can’t do it now, doesn’t mean you can’t do it later. You will find the answer to your AP problem.]

He frowned. How?

[I already told you the answer. You must fight other Maugnetics. It is only through the heat of the battle will your instincts flare up and give you the answer you need.]

After hearing Harbinger’s non-answer, he was starting to miss ChatJK4’s reassuring voice. At least with his AI assistant, he’d be given direct answers and solutions to the problem. Meanwhile, Harbinger just speaks in metaphors and puzzles.

[KUKUKUKU! Looks like you’ll have your chance now!]

He opened his eyes and left the void in his mind.

With his glasses still on his head, he used his 360 Drone Vision to look at his surroundings.

And on the North West side, he suddenly picked up a disturbance a few tens of meters away from him.

The sound of grass being stepped on echoed through to him, alerting him of heavy footsteps.

There was someone coming towards him!

Using his Drone, he surveyed this new stranger.

The man wore full metal armor, with his attire bearing a close resemblance to medieval knights from his previous world.

He’s from the Order of the Heavenly Knights! he realized.

“Hn?” the Knight muttered, narrowing his eyes at Michael.

After seeing that Michael’s face wasn’t someone he recognized and that the boy wasn’t wearing metal armor, the Knight immediately felt disappointed. He thought he stumbled upon pon one of his teammates.

But then, the Knight saw something that made his eyes go wide.

Just behind Michael was a glowing green flag that was stuck impaled into the ground.

“That’s…that’s a flag. You’re Michael!” the Knight realized.

There was only one flag bearer in this game that was a kid with golden hair.

The Knight couldn’t believe his luck. He had just been wandering aimlessly through the forest, but who would have thought that he’d be able to get his team a flag this early in the game.

He approached Michael, his hands spread wide to show that he meant no harm.

“Hey kid… if you give that flag to me nicely, then nobody needs to get hurt. I just want the flag, and you can continue with the game. I won’t eliminate you.”

Michael couldn’t care less about the flag or the game. But he just couldn’t surrender a fight he hadn’t even fought yet.

[Kukuku! That’s right! Battle with him head on!] Harbinger encouraged.

“Sorry, can’t do that,” he replied.

This earned him a frown from the Knight. “Look, there’s no one around to help you. I know that you made an alliance with the Legacies. But even they can’t help you now.”

With his Drone, he already knew that there was no one else around him for a solid few kilometers.

“Just leave the flag to me. And then, I’ll let you go and rendezvous with the rest of your team. After that, you can plan to take back the flag from our team. At least then, you won’t—”

And just before the Knight could finish his sentence, a Unity beam shot towards him from behind him.

Unbeknownst to him, the Drone had already circled around and found his blind spot.

But just as the Unity beam was going to hit the Knight on his back, his body suddenly blurred before he stepped to the side, completely evading the [Unity Gun].

“Sorry, I already know about your flying weapon and your powerful beam. There’s nothing you can do,” the Knight said, his patience wearing a little thin.

Michael took one switch from his pockets and shot his own [Unity Gun] towards it.

And as he flicked it on, the [Unity Saber] was born. Its glow illuminated Michael’s face to show the seriousness in his eyes. He was planning on fighting the Knight!

The Knight sighed and took out the red axe from his back.

“If you insist on making it hard for me, I’ll have no choice but to eliminate you,” the Knight warned.

But Michael still kept his hands on his saber, ready to fight.
