Chapter 594: Unexpected bid
Chapter 594: Unexpected bid
Everyone turned to look at him, confused as to why he knocked on the tinted glass door.
“Uhh…that’s only for bidding, Michael,” Reptar said, chuckling. Everyone thought that the knock was born from a simple error on his part.
He looked back. “I know. I’m bidding.”
At this point, everyone in the room was staring at him, wide-eyed, as if they were still trying to process what he was trying to say.
It was only until Reena shook her head and broke out of her stupor did they all finally explode in hurried shouts of surprise.
“Michael…what?!”
“You—-you want to join the bidding for the Soo drops?”
“That’s crazy! You’re crazy! They’ weakest player in their midst is in the 7th stage of Body Formation. You know that, right?”
He addressed their concerns with a nod of acknowledgement. He knew that fighting against people four stages above him was nothing less than defeat waiting to happen, but Harbinger convinced him that this was what he needed in order to become stronger.
[Kukuku…they’re stronger than us, so what? We’ll use them as a sharpening stone to increase our strength.]
You’re sure about this, right?
[Yeah, I’m sure kukukuku… I am your singular desire to usher the Future into this world. I will do whatever it takes to make that happen, no matter the cost. And this is the way to do it.]
Although he had some doubts, Harbinger did make some good points. He was willing to believe his own Diva, especially after he learned that it was a form of his own self, a part of his personality.
Of course, as egotistical as it may sound, he was going to trust his own personality.
Meanwhile, the crowd down below were immediately confused upon hearing another knock come in at the last second.
“Huh? I already counted six knocks, all coming from the Major Factions. Why did I hear another knock?”
“I heard it too. But that’s impossible. There’s no one else that can qualify for the bidding!”
“It can’t be the Mermen because they were the ones who brought out the 15 Soo drops in the first place.”
Many were trying to think if it came from one of the Minor Factions, specifically the Rising Six. but from what they knew about the companies, none of them had the financial capacity or the Maugnetic capacity to participate in the games.
Because of this, many thought that the knock was simply a mistake brought on by human error. Maybe someone was too excited about the games and accidentally knocked on the tinted glass.
So, everyone looked towards Barnaby for some clarity on the situation.
However, Barnaby was also confused. Just then, one of his butlers came out from backstage and whispered to him some words that made his eyes go wide with surprise.
Barnaby looked back at the butler, making sure that he heard him correctly.
But after some verification, Barnaby was forced to realize the truth.
He looked up at one of the Private Suites. He had just been informed that Micheal and the rest of the Rising Six had gathered in one room and were watching the auction together.
But then, Michael knocked on the door and expressed his desire to participate in the bidding, which greatly confused Barnaby.
He looked at the tinted glass, as if trying to communicate with Michael to ask him if he was sure about his decision.
“Ahem… you have heard it correctly, folks. There has been another bid for the 15 Soo drops. They are willing to match the 1.5 billion coin bid and compete against the Major Factions.”
The crowd immediately burst into whispers of speculation. They just couldn’t guess who this mysterious bidder could be.
Barnaby cleared his throat and finally announced;
“The Reborn company has wished to enter the bidding!”
As soon as he said that, everyone gasped with surprise and confusion. The Reborn company? Michael had proven himself to be strong enough to be at the top of the Rising Six, but even still, the gap between him and the Major Factions was like heaven and earth!
“What? The Reborn company?!”
“Michael wants to bid? That’s not possible!”
Barnaby quickly eased their worries.
“I can confirm that the Reborn company is able to afford the 1.5 billion bid for the Soo drops,” he announced. Michael’s automobiles got up to 1 billion gold coins, so he definitely got the money for the bid.
Many were again, more than surprised to learn the extent of wealth that Michael had.
Being able to spend 1.5 billion and not be drowned in debt and nearing bankruptcy told a lot about how much money Michael had in his inventory.
“They’re just as wealthy as the Major Factions?!”
“What is the Reborn company’s business anyway?”
“They definitely didn’t get all that money from their business in Metropolis. Last I heard, they just got established not even a month ago!”
Even the Major Factions were surprised. Alaric and the other Legacies weren’t expecting Michael to be as wealthy as he was right now. Not only that, but they didn’t expect him to have the guts to contend with them in the first place.
The only one who was having the time of their life after hearing this was the Duchess. She was laughing in her VIP suite, bragging to her attendants about how she knew that Michael would do something insane again.
“HAHAHA! That kid always has something up his sleeves. But I didn’t think he’d do something this insane!”
At this point, Beau, Reptar, Reena, and the rest of the Rising Six were trying their hardest to convince Michael out of his decision.
“You know you can’t do this, right?” Erlos asked. “The Major Factions will bid to have at least four Maugnetics as their players!”
And just like he said, Barnaby had to break the bad news.
“Unfortnately, since this is a simultaneous event, we’ll have to go with the accepted conditions with the automobile bid, where it was decided that there would be five Maugnetics per company during the game.
Now, I have to ask. Reborn company, can you provide those players?”
This was not just a problem of money. It was also a problem of manpower.
First of all, Michael had to be at least within one or two stages below the weakest player in the game.
That was the rules set up by the Association itself to make sure that everything was fair.
At this point, Michael was already disqualified from bidding entirely. He was three stages below the weakest member.
But even if he had the right Diva cultivation stage, he still had one more problem.
He didn’t have any other Maugnetics in his company. The Dragonborns may be strong, but they were normal humans without Divas or Aubilties. And if they had one, then they needed to be in the 5th or 6th stage of Body Formation as well.
“I have just been informed that the Reborn company does not have that capability,” Barnaby said with a low tone.
He couldn’t help but look up at Michael, wondering why he even knocked in the first place when he knew that he’d get disqualified from the get go.
