Reborn as the Genius Son of the Richest Family

Chapter 1186 Excuses

The human guards could do nothing as Michael strutted into the swirling portal, entering into the Draconic Tower.

Immediately, he found himself transported into a new world. A large castle in the middle of an endless sky. This castle sat atop a large island floating, not by magic, but through the power of thousands upon thousands of wyverns carrying it with the ropes strung along their bodies.

Michael walked towards the entrance, finding himself in the midst of even more guards. They regarded him with surprise and suspicion.

“Who are you?” they asked him, readying their weapon. “This is a gathering of the most important people in all of New Sparta! You are in the vicinity of people who are in the same league as kings and queens! Best leave now before we force you.”

It was at this point that Michael stopped and looked at the guards. “I am the leader of the Reborn company.”

As soon as he said those words, the guards all looked at him with surprise.

Of course, they’re heard about the Reborn company. The very organization who was pivotal in the week-long Feast. Not to mention the automobiles that were now being used by every organization in the Royal Continent, the guards would have to be living under a rock to not know about Reborn.

But what they were surprised about was Michael’s admission to being the leader of Reborn.

They’d all heard the rumors about the supposed founder of this star-like company. They’d heard rumors that he was actually a hermit, or a wizard who had lost his powers. There were a lot of theories as to how the Reborn company were able to create those reality-defying technology that they now spread all around New Sparta.

But never would they have expected that it would have come from a small boy like this who was barely in their teens.

“What? That doesn’t seem possible!”

“Impersonation will not do you good, kid!”

“How can you be the leader of Reborn? It is a preposterous thought!”

It was at this moment that a passing swordsman suddenly turned his head and saw the commotion happening in the entrance.

“What is happening?” said the Knight.

“Sir Oliver, no need to worry about this problem. We are dealing with this—”

But as soon as he said those words, the Knight suddenly pushed the guard aside and kneeled towards Michael.

“Sir Michael! The Heavenly Mistress has been waiting for you,” he said with the utmost respect.

Seeing this, the guards couldn’t help but gasp out loud. A Knight had bowed to this boy! Not only that, but it seemed that the Heavenly Swordmistress herself had been expecting his appearance!

“Tell her I came as soon as I heard,” Michael said.

“You can tell her that yourself, sir Michael,” replied Oliver. “I will lead you to her private chambers.”

Michael nodded. “Much appreciated.”

“Umm… sir Michael. Would it be presumptuous of me to ask you…”

A golden ring was tossed towards Sir Oliver. It was a Pocket Dimension ring, containing Chocolate Ice Cream.

As soon as Oliver saw its contents, his smile beamed wide. “I appreciate this, Sir Michael! This chocolate will allow me to improve my cultivation greatly!”

The guards could only gawk with envious gazes as they saw Sir Oliver walk while eating Ice Cream with a cone.

If they’d just let Michael in, they could have obtained that legendary ice cream themselves! But how could they have known that the leader of Reborn would actually be a teenager?

“What do we do? Not only did we offend Reborn’s founder, but we also failed in our mission. We were supposed to block Reborn from entering this castle!”

“Should we report our superiors?”

“No! Didn’t you hear? Reborn’s being backed by the Heavenly Swordmistress herself! We can’t anger a guy like him any further. Besides… I like eating ice cream and don’t want to stop ordering it!”

Michael walked with Oliver through the castle grounds. The place was lively and full of people, Beastfolks and Humans alike. The emblems on their chests depicted their allegiances, with most (if not all) coming from the Upper Echelons.

They were mostly soldiers and warriors brought here to escort their patriarch to the meeting safely. After all, a summit containing such a huge gathering of important people was always dangerous if they came unprepared.

Of course, despite some hostilities from the companies, none actually dared to fight.

After all, they were in the presence of the Draconians. While the humans and Beastfolks mingled on the grounds, the Draconians instead mingled on the upper layers of the castle, towards the expansive balconies, decorated ramparts, and high rooftops.

These Draconians were power incarnate. They were called the strongest species in the world for a reason.

No one wanted to anger them. The last one that did ended up getting erased from the face of the world.

And in truth, if they so pleased, the Draconians could have conquered the world if they wanted to. Their powers were that oppressive.

Thankfully, they were not that ambitious of a species. Also, they weren’t as unified as humans and Beastfolks were, as they tended to keep to themselves.

That was also the reason why they were absent during the chaos in New Sparta. They didn’t want to help, plain and simple. As long as they weren’t being affected, they wouldn’t extend their hands to help.

The Ersatz were smart and made sure to keep the Monsters far away from the center of New Sparta. None of those creatures went anywhere near the land of the Draconian Spires.

Because of that, no Draconian helped in the chaos.

“Why is everyone gathered here,” Michael asked as Oliver led him up a spiraling staircase.

“The Upper Echelons have decided to have an impromptu gathering amongst themselves to discuss the matters of New Sparta. They said that the attack had completely changed the landscape of the competition, and they must therefore deliberate on its future.”

Michael could already guess what the Upper Echelons were planning.

They had no doubt heard about McTony’s performance during the sixth day. They saw their rise from the top 20th straight over towards the 9th place.

And from the look of things, Reborn wasn’t going to let the other companies retake their places. It even looked like Reborn was poised to enter into the top 5, maybe even the top 3, which would be a total nightmare for these Upper Echelons.

The very company they’d been underestimating, would now finish 3rd place? That was embarrassing and a total shame on their part.

So, the only thing they could do was to make some excuse. Of course, conveniently, they could use the excuse of the Ersatz attack as some kind of reason to delay or even outright stop the Feast altogether.

After all, it was reasonable to do so. People died, buildings were destroyed, and most importantly, magic was gone.

So, they had very good reason to stop the Feast.

Now, Michael would have definitely agreed with this if they were doing this out of the goodness of their own heart.

But no. They were just doing this so that they could bar the Reborn company from getting the prize that they truly deserved.

Michael had a feeling that even if the Ersatz attack didn’t happen, they would have still found a new excuse in order to stop Reborn’s momentum and prevent them from entering into the top 3.

After all, why else would they have spent all of their money and resources into rebuilding New Sparta in less than a day?

They had started the festivities, enrolled the marching bands, and everything else.

They had planned to continue on with the Feast. However, once they saw that they had no chance in overtaking McTony’s sales, they eventually ended up unanimously deciding to stop Reborn’s ascent.

And so, they started this summit meeting with all Upper Echelons and Conglomerates present.

Conveniently, they also forgot to extend an invitation towards Reborn, even though he had every right to be here. He’d proven that these last seven days.

“Ah! It looks like the Heavenly Swordmistress has already left the room,” said Oliver as he opened the Eldea’s personal chambers.

He asked the guards beside the door and they explained that Eldea rushed out and headed straight for the Throne room where all the leaders and patriarchs were gathered.

“We must hurry,” said Oliver. “I will lead you straight there.”

Michael and Oliver rushed through the halls of the Draconian Castle, brushing past guards as they did so.

They didn’t stop until they were near the Throne Room.

Even as they neared, Michael could already hear fierce shouting and arguments coming from the inside.

“It is only right that we stop the Feast completely. We cannot go on as if nothing happened. Magic is gone! Is everyone forgetting that?”

“You make excuses,” Eldea said. “But we all know the reason for this. You’re afraid of Reborn, aren’t you?”
