Chapter 2034: Chapter 2036: Lavish Betrothal Gifts

Soon it arrived at the day of Yang Xia and Li Fugui’s engagement.

Early in the morning, there were quite a few people in the Yang Family courtyard, all here to offer their congratulations.

Every member of the Yang Family was neatly dressed and beaming with smiles.

Before long, the children at the gate began shouting, "He’s here, he’s here..."

Everyone knew this meant Li Fugui had arrived.

Many people rushed to the gate to watch.

Li Fugui put on quite a show, not inferior to a wedding.

He rode a high horse, followed by a row of people carrying betrothal gifts, with a matchmaker in red attire walking beside him.

The matchmaker flung her bright red handkerchief and started speaking auspicious words, "Congratulations, Master Yang, felicitations, Master Yang, the betrothal gifts from the Li Family have arrived, let’s hurry into the courtyard and check them."

Li Fugui dismounted, and the group carrying the gifts headed towards the courtyard.

"Master Yang, your daughter is truly blessed, see these betrothal gifts, incomparable even though they might not be the only ones."

With a smile full of joy, the matchmaker began checking the betrothal gifts in front of everyone in the courtyard.

This also gave face to both families.

"Master Yang, please take a good look," the matchmaker said as she began opening the trunks one by one.

"Here is the dowry, five hundred taels of silver!"

"Here are the ornaments, a pair of gold bracelets, a gold headpiece, a gold hairpin, a gold lock!"

"Eight rolls of silk!"

"A basket of wedding cakes!"

"Two pairs of chickens, two roosters, two hens, a pig, two fish, symbolizing sincerity and prosperity year after year."

"Four jugs of wine, suggesting deep affection!"

"Rock sugar, wedding candies, with sweetness and bliss, growing old together."

"Tea leaves, sesame seeds, oil tea ceremony, no regrets at all."

"Gift boxes, containing sesame, red beans, green beans, dragon and phoenix candles, and couplets!"

"Firecracker bracelets of gold!"

"Two dozen rice, twenty pounds of glutinous rice, three pounds and two taels of granulated sugar..."

With so many betrothal gifts, everyone was astounded, feeling indescribable envy and jealousy; Yang Xia of the Yang Family, who is marrying with a child in tow, ended up with such a good family.

Just look at these betrothal gifts; no other family’s daughter has received so much.

Thinking of Li Fugui’s formerly down-and-out appearance, who would have guessed he’d become so prosperous in the blink of an eye; they all calculated in their minds, he’s indeed from a wealthy family; even a thin camel is larger than a horse, truly is."

The magnitude of the display astonished the Yang Family, who hadn’t expected so much, wondering, "How...?"

Li Fugui noticed the confusion among the Yang Family, stepped forward to stand before Yang’s father, "Uncle, these are all deserved, actually I’ve been preparing for a long time; I cannot have Xiaotian come along without a clear reason, nor can I let her suffer."

"You are a good person, entrusting Xiaoxia to you, uncle feels reassured."

What else could Yang’s father say, today was indeed glorious, full of pride.

"Uncle, we are family from now on."

"Yes, family!"

After the gifts were checked, they arranged for people to move the gifts into the house, and all the other arrangements for the animals were made.

Those who came to offer congratulations also found a place to sit.

Soon the Yang Family began the banquet.

Yang Xia dressed up specially today, looking extremely beautiful, as it wasn’t the wedding but just the engagement, she could come out and pour drinks for everyone at the tables alongside Li Fugui.

Everyone exchanged blessings with the couple, today’s engagement feast allowed Yang Xia and Li Fugui to walk around openly.

For both of them, this was undoubtedly a tremendous joy; they had finally reached the end of their hardships.
