Reborn as an SSS-Rank Guide in the Sentinel Academy [BL]
Chapter 146: Legendary
[CONGRATULATIONS. LEGENDARY SSS-RANK UNLOCKED.]
The System’s voice rang through Julian’s mind with a force and clarity unlike anything he’d heard from it before, and the world seemed to hold its breath for one suspended, endless heartbeat.
Then the light came. It surged up from somewhere deep beneath his sternum, blue-violet and vast, no longer the contained, careful glow he’d grown accustomed to but something closer to a physical force, exploding outward in a single, concussive wave that sent Xavier and Ian both flying backward, crashing hard through the churned earth and skidding to a stop several yards away.
Julian rose. His exhaustion didn’t simply fade — it burned away entirely, replaced by something vast and steady settling deep into every cell of his body, power humming so completely present now that the desperate, trembling weakness from moments earlier felt like a memory belonging to someone else entirely. His dark hair bled slowly to silver, strand by strand, catching the light in a way that made it look almost luminous, and his eyes, when Reid caught sight of them from several yards away, had shifted entirely, no longer the familiar brown but something impossible, icy blue shot through with faint threads of pink, cold and beautiful and utterly unrecognizable.
"Julian," Reid breathed, staring, disbelief and awe crashing together across his exhausted features.
Julian didn’t answer immediately, simply standing there, drawing in one slow, steady breath, testing the vast, unfamiliar power now settled so completely beneath his skin. It felt nothing like the fan, nothing like the sword. It felt like something that had always belonged to him, simply waiting, patient and dormant, for exactly this moment to finally, fully awaken.
He lifted his hand. Silver light gathered fast and bright around his fingers, resolving in an instant into a long, gleaming chain, and with a single, deliberate motion, he sent it lashing out across the battlefield, the links catching Xavier and Ian both at once, wrapping tight and absolute around their still-recovering forms, pinning them fast to the earth despite their considerable, corrupted strength.
Both hollow figures struggled against the binding, mechanical and relentless, but the chain held firm, humming faint with power that seemed to actively resist their every effort to break free.
"stay there," Julian said, voice carrying an authority that hadn’t been there moments before, calm and absolute in a way that made even Reid’s breath catch. "I’ll deal with you properly once I’ve handled the rest of this."
He turned from them, the chain remaining anchored and steady even as his attention shifted entirely toward the wider battlefield, toward the horde still pressing hard against the Elite Academy’s failing defenses, toward the newly turned Sentinels shambling gray and hollow among their former comrades.
Something in Julian’s chest settled cold and absolute, grief for what he’d have to do tangling with fierce, unshakeable resolve.
He moved. It happened too fast for most eyes to properly track, silver-blue light trailing behind him like a comet’s tail as he crossed the battlefield in a series of impossibly fluid, continuous motions, cutting through the horde’s densest concentrations with a speed and precision that made his earlier fights — even the one against Logan, even the one at the capital’s eastern breach — look almost pedestrian by comparison.
Rogues fell in clean, efficient waves wherever he passed, the silver chain lashing out in wide, sweeping arcs that caught multiple attackers at once, and where the newly-turned Sentinels stumbled among the horde, gray and hollow-eyed but still recognizably themselves beneath the corruption, Julian’s power shifted, softer now, silver-blue light wrapping gentle instead of lethal, drawing the corruption out through some instinct he hadn’t consciously chosen but simply, somehow, knew.
"he’s healing them," someone gasped near the defensive line, watching a turned Sentinel collapse and then, moments later, stir weakly, color slowly returning to skin that had gone gray only seconds earlier. "he’s actually pulling them back—"
Jayden stood frozen at the edge of the fighting, gold light forgotten entirely as he watched Julian move through the battlefield like something out of legend, cutting down threats and reversing corruption in the same fluid, continuous motion, silver hair catching the light, icy eyes fixed and focused despite the impossible scale of what he was accomplishing.
"what is he really," Jayden breathed, echoing the same question that had haunted him for weeks now, though this time the answer felt somehow closer than ever before, and further away all at once.
Reid remained near the chained figures of Xavier and Ian, watching Julian’s transformation unfold across the battlefield with something between awe and quiet, aching grief. He thought of every conversation they’d shared about not fully understanding what Julian had become, and understood now, watching this, that no amount of careful patience or gentle questioning could have ever properly prepared either of them for the sheer, staggering scope of it.
The horde thinned rapidly under Julian’s relentless, precise assault, gray shapes falling in clean, efficient waves until finally, within minutes rather than the hours the battle had already consumed, the last of the rogues lay scattered and still across the churned, bloody earth.
Julian turned back toward Xavier and Ian, the silver chain still holding them fast, and crossed the distance slow and deliberate now, the frantic, vast energy of the fight settling back into something calmer, more controlled.
"the demonstration’s over," Julian said quietly, standing over the two hollow, struggling figures, his icy, unfamiliar eyes studying them with something that carried both fierce, unshakeable resolve and deep, aching sorrow in equal measure. "and now it’s my turn."
Neither figure responded beyond the same mechanical struggle against the chain’s unbreakable hold, and Julian knelt slowly beside them, silver-blue light gathering soft and searching at his fingertips once more, reaching for that same fragile, buried ember he’d sensed before the fight had spiraled entirely out of control.
"I’m not giving up on you," he said quietly, voice steady despite the grief threading beneath it. "not either of you. whatever it takes."
