Chapter 1770: Chapter 1326: Do I Have This Obligation?

She never expected it, but her chance really did come—she’d set herself a deadline, thinking if she couldn’t pull it off in time, she’d try something else. But right as the deadline approached, her luck turned.

So, without hesitation, she told her partner, who was also her confidant, to tail Mrs. Hu into the mall, and when Mrs. Hu wasn’t paying attention, scoop up the little grandson playing at her feet.

The mall was crowded, and no one was especially keeping an eye on Mrs. Hu. Honestly, even if someone saw Xiao Yuhang being carried off, they’d probably just assume the person was with Mrs. Hu.

After all, Xiao Yuhang didn’t cry or fuss—because the person who picked him up blocked him with their body, handed him an intricate little toy, and captured all his attention, letting them get away with it without any trouble.

Xu Chunxia was waiting just outside the mall. When she saw Xiao Yuhang brought out, she approached without saying a word, took the kid from the man’s hands, then quickly walked to the curb, waved down a taxi, and headed straight for the train station.

After getting out, she pulled out a handkerchief and casually covered Xiao Yuhang’s mouth and nose. Once he lost consciousness, she went to a secluded spot to disguise the child, then bought a train ticket to the provincial capital near home and slipped away.

Maybe she was just lucky—she waited less than a few minutes before her train started boarding.

At the same time, Mrs. Hu was like a panicked ant, still combing the mall for her grandson. By the time Xu Chunxia’s train had left North City, she still had no idea her grandson had been taken by her former daughter-in-law and an accomplice.

Xu Chunxia had it all planned out. Her goal was money, and she wanted Hu’s father and mother to panic.

As for whether this was a crime? To be honest, Xu Chunxia didn’t even have that awareness. Put bluntly, she was basically clueless about the law.

She’d barely been to school, and after stepping into society, her surroundings and the people around her shaped her—her eyes and heart only saw shortcuts and cold hard cash, nothing else.

Xu Family.

"I want grandma, I want grandpa! Auntie’s bad—I don’t like you! I want grandma and grandpa, I wanna play with daddy!"

Hu Yuhang was bawling, tears streaming down his face. The Xu family in the main room were all bewildered, not sure how Xu Chunxia could go out and come back with a kid. Xu Chunxia didn’t explain anything when she walked in. They wanted to ask, but she gave them no time, so they just stood by and watched.

"Cry cry cry, what are you crying for?! Listen up—there’s no grandpa or grandma here, and that idiot dad of yours isn’t here, either. I’m your mom, got it?"

Xu Chunxia was about to lose it from Hu Yuhang’s crying, her patience stretched to its limit. She glared at him: "Shut up! If you keep crying, I’ll smack you!"

"You’re not my mom, you’re a bad auntie, waaah..."

He was clearly scared, but Hu Yuhang didn’t really look like he’d back down.

"I am your mom. If not for me, you wouldn’t even exist!"

Xu Chunxia felt Hu Yuhang was an ungrateful little brat. She’d carried him ten months, risked her life to bring him into the world—and now the kid wouldn’t acknowledge her as his mom? Heartless.

"Waaah... My mom is Xingxing, you’re a bad auntie—you’re not my mom..."

Hu Yuhang sobbed so hard he could barely breathe. He wanted his grandma and grandpa, wanted to play with dad. He didn’t want to stay with the bad auntie.

"I told you to quit crying. Didn’t you hear me?"

With Hu Yuhang’s cries ringing in her ears, Xu Chunxia’s head buzzed, thoroughly annoyed. She looked like a dragon spewing fire, vicious-faced, and Hu Yuhang was so scared he stopped crying at once, went pale, and stood trembling in the center of the main room.

"Is this kid really yours?"

The Xu family all stared. Mrs. Xu asked Xu Chunxia.

"Didn’t you hear?"

Xu Chunxia’s tone was harsh. Mrs. Xu’s face soured: "If the kid is yours, can’t you coax him a bit? Didn’t you see you’re scaring him so bad he’s shaking?"

After a brief pause, Mrs. Xu spoke again before Xu Chunxia could reply: "When did you get married? What does the kid’s dad do? Why didn’t he come with you home?"

"Do you have to be so annoying?"

Every time she thought about her ex-husband Hu Chuan, that idiot, Xu Chunxia felt ashamed. She glared at Mrs. Xu: "My business is none of yours. After New Year, I’ll leave with the child. While we’re here, make sure the food isn’t too lousy!"

Then she slapped a hundred yuan on the table beside her: "This hundred is for me and the kid’s meals. Don’t tell me it’s not enough."

Times might have gotten a bit better, but ordinary workers in the city just starting out barely get a raise, and the hundred she offered was at least two and a half months’ wages for those workers.

"You didn’t mess around with men out there and come up with this kid, did you?"

Mrs. Xu quickly took the money off the table, still griping about Hu Yuhang’s parentage. Xu Chunxia’s face went dark: "What do you mean, messing around with men?"

Sweeping her gaze over the other family members, Xu Chunxia locked her eyes back on Mrs. Xu: "He’s a legitimate kid—got married first. But I’ve already divorced his dad."
