Reborn as a Snow Wolf: My Bloodline Ancestor System
Chapter 39:The Guardian’s Chamber
Chapter 39: Chapter 39:The Guardian’s Chamber
He recognized the symbols from the earlier chamber.
The system appeared.
Ancient Script Detected.
Partial Translation Available.
Ash waited.
The letters slowly formed in his mind.
The Guardian does not protect the mountain.
Ash’s breathing stopped.
Another line appeared.
The Guardian protects what sleeps beneath it.
Ash stared at the words.
Aren moved closer.
Ash translated them aloud.
The lynx looked toward the ground.
Something was sleeping beneath the mountain.
Not a treasure.
Not an ancient weapon.
Something alive.
Something important enough that an entire civilization had built an enormous underground system to protect it.
Ash looked at the crystals.
"Maybe the Guardian isn’t the creature we’ve been seeing."
Aren stared at him.
Ash continued.
"Maybe that creature is protecting this place."
Before either could consider the possibility further, the entire chamber shook.
Dust poured from the ceiling.
A crack appeared across one of the pillars.
Aren immediately turned toward the entrance.
Another crystal activated.
Then another.
The blue light became brighter.
Ash looked at the platform.
The ancient symbols were beginning to glow.
"The structure is reacting."
Aren grabbed his foreleg.
They ran.
The first pillar collapsed behind them.
The impact sent a wave of dust through the corridor.
Ash coughed as he ran.
Stones fell from above.
The passage that had taken them several minutes to cross was now becoming dangerous with every heartbeat.
Aren suddenly stopped.
Ash nearly collided with him.
The lynx was staring at the wall.
"What is it?"
Aren pointed.
A small opening had appeared where the stone had cracked.
Beyond it was another passage.
They had no choice.
They entered.
The tunnel was narrow, forcing them to move sideways in several places.
Behind them, the ancient chamber continued collapsing.
Ash heard a tremendous crash.
The floor shook beneath his paws.
"Keep moving!"
Aren pushed forward.
They climbed upward through the tunnel until a pale light appeared ahead.
Snow.
They had found another exit.
Aren emerged first.
Ash followed.
They stumbled onto a steep hillside just as a deep rumble erupted behind them.
The mountain shifted.
A massive cloud of snow and stone burst from the ruins.
Ash turned.
For several seconds, he expected the ancient creature to emerge.
Nothing happened.
The mountain remained still.
Then something appeared through the settling snow.
Tracks.
Huge tracks.
They emerged from the collapsed section of the mountain and continued northward.
Ash stared at them.
The creature was leaving.
It wasn’t coming toward the Blackfang settlement.
It was moving away from them.
Aren watched the trail.
His expression was confused.
Ash looked toward the distant valley.
"Maybe it was never hunting us."
Aren didn’t answer.
They remained there until the snow settled.
Far away, Elder Mira and Rowan had reached the western ridge with several hunters.
They could see the enormous tracks from a distance.
Rowan crouched beside the first imprint.
"The same tracks."
Elder Mira studied the direction.
Her eyes followed the trail toward the northern wilderness.
"It’s leaving."
Rowan looked at her.
"Leaving for where?"
Mira remained silent for several moments.
Then she answered quietly.
"I don’t think it was coming for us."
---
Ash and Aren remained hidden near the ruins.
They could not return immediately.
The collapse had destroyed the easiest route back to the settlement, and they needed to wait until the ground stopped shifting.
Ash sat beneath a large pine.
Aren remained several steps away, watching the forest.
The silence had returned.
But it no longer felt empty.
It felt watchful.
Ash looked down at the black stone.
The surface suddenly warmed.
A faint blue light appeared across it.
Ash frowned.
The system appeared.
Guardian Activity Detected.
Threat Classification: Unknown.
Ancient Seal Integrity: 71%.
Warning: External Entity Has Entered the Sacred Territory.
Ash stared at the message.
"External entity?"
Aren immediately looked at him.
Ash showed him the glowing stone.
The lynx studied it.
Then his ears suddenly rose.
He had heard something.
Ash remained completely still.
A faint rustling came from behind them.
It was not the enormous creature.
The sound was too light.
Too controlled.
Something was walking through the snow.
Ash slowly turned.
Between the trees stood a figure.
It was taller than either Ash or Aren, but not enormous.
Its body was covered by a dark fur cloak that concealed most of its shape.
Its face remained hidden beneath a deep hood.
The stranger stood several meters away.
Neither Ash nor Aren moved.
The figure did not attack.
Instead, it slowly lowered one paw toward the snow.
Something fell from its hand.
A small object landed on the ground.
The stranger stepped backward.
Aren suddenly froze.
His amber eyes widened.
He moved forward before Ash could stop him.
The object was a broken pendant.
The same blue symbol was carved into its surface.
Aren picked it up.
His paws began trembling.
Ash looked at him.
"What is it?"
Aren didn’t answer.
He stared at the pendant as though he had been transported somewhere else.
Then he pressed it against his chest.
A tear formed at the corner of one amber eye.
Ash had never seen Aren cry.
The lynx finally looked at him.
He pointed toward the pendant.
Then toward the northern mountains.
Ash understood.
"This belonged to someone you knew."
Aren nodded.
He touched the pendant again.
Then he whispered a name.
It was the first unfamiliar word Ash had ever heard him speak.
Ash couldn’t understand it.
But the pain in Aren’s voice needed no translation.
The stranger remained silent.
Ash looked toward the figure.
"Who are you?"
No response came.
The figure turned.
Ash took one step forward.
"Wait."
The stranger paused.
For the briefest moment, the hood shifted.
Ash caught a glimpse of pale fur and a pair of eyes.
Not silver.
Not amber.
They were a deep blue.
The figure disappeared between the trees.
Aren immediately followed.
Ash grabbed his shoulder.
"No."
Aren struggled against him.
Ash pointed toward the forest.
"We don’t know who that is."
Aren looked at the pendant.
Then toward the direction the stranger had disappeared.
His anger slowly gave way to something else.
Hope.
For the first time since Ash had met him, Aren didn’t look like a survivor carrying the memory of a dead world.
He looked like someone who had just been given a reason to believe that his world might still exist somewhere.
Ash released him.
"We’ll find out."
Aren looked at him.
Ash placed one paw against his chest.
Then pointed toward the mountains.
"Together."
Aren slowly nodded.
---
The sun was beginning to descend when they finally started moving back toward the settlement.
Neither spoke much.
Ash kept thinking about the ancient chamber.
The inscription.
The sleeping presence beneath the mountain.
The creature leaving the ruins.
And the stranger who had appeared without making a sound.
Aren walked beside him.
He held the broken pendant carefully against his chest.
Whatever had happened to his tribe, the story was no longer finished.
Someone had survived.
Someone had remembered him.
And someone knew enough about the ancient ruins to find them.
But the greatest mystery remained beneath their paws.
What was sleeping under the mountain?
Why did the Guardian protect it?
And what did the ancient Blackfang and Silver Lynx alliance have to do with it?
Ash didn’t have the answers.
Not yet.
---
That evening, the Blackfang settlement watched the western horizon in silence.
The mountain had stopped shaking.
The strange blue light had disappeared.
The enormous creature had left no further tracks near the valley.
For the first time in hours, the wolves allowed themselves to breathe.
Elder Mira stood beside Rowan at the edge of the settlement.
"Do you think it’s gone?" Rowan asked.
Mira looked toward the northern wilderness.
"No."
Rowan frowned.
"Then where is it?"
"I don’t know."
She lowered her gaze toward the fresh snow.
"But whatever it was doing, I don’t think the Blackfang Pack was its target."
Rowan considered her words.
"Then what was?"
Mira looked toward Moonveil.
"I fear we may have been living beside the answer without knowing it."
---
Far beneath the ruins, the ancient chamber continued to glow.
The blue crystals had stopped activating.
The platform had gone silent.
But something had changed.
A faint crack had appeared across the center of the circular stone.
Beyond that crack lay a darkness deeper than the surrounding earth.
For centuries, nothing had moved there.
Now, something shifted.
The ancient seal remained intact.
But its strength had fallen.
Seventy-one percent.
The darkness beneath the platform seemed to breathe.
Once.
Slowly.
Then again.
Far above, the mountains remained covered in snow.
The Blackfang wolves believed the danger had moved away.
They were wrong.
It had simply moved somewhere they could not see.
And somewhere beyond the northern forest, the mysterious stranger walked through the darkness carrying knowledge that could change the fate of both the Blackfang Pack and the Silver Lynx.
The ancient world was beginning to wake.
But it had not yet revealed whether it had returned to save them...
or to finish what had begun centuries ago.
To be continued...
