Chapter 738: Learning To Fly All Over Again
Chapter 738: Learning To Fly All Over Again
Kana walked around the edge of the cliff face for three days with no luck. It was as if there was no end to the steep wall of rock that was so smooth that no matter where one looked, had no visible way to climb it. She was actually very stumped. “There has to be a way up, or the demonic beasts I am hearing above would not be able to get up there if this wall was blocking their path, so….”
Kana pondered for a moment before spreading her wings and flapping them a few times. It was only now that she realized one important thing. She had no idea how to use her wings to fly without magic power. “Err… like this?”
Flapping with all her might, she felt her body slowly lifting off the ground, but she felt like she was struggling to do so. “Why does this seem off? I mean, my wings are big, so maybe a slow and steady pace?”
Kana slowed her flapping down and tried to control it with big but gentle flaps allowing the air to push her up. But after only rising off the ground for a few meters, she lost concentration and fell right back to the ground, landing on her feet. “Why can birds do it, but I can’t!?”
Kana huffed as she tried again and again. She just wanted to fly up to the next ridge! After almost four hours of trying and failing, she finally got to the point to where she could fly up almost twenty meters and hover there for half a minute before falling back down to the ground. She would get tired and need to rest. She knew birds hovered in the sky all the time, so she was trying to do the same thing. But it seemed that knowing what birds do and her actually mimicking it was not easy.
Kana landed after her who knows how many tries. Sweat dripped from her brow. The only lucky thing was that there did not seem to be any demonic beasts near the cliffside, making it easy for her to rest. “I should probably eat and try again. I never thought flying with wings would be so hard….”
She had flown many times, but it was with the assistance of her magic power, giving her the boost she needs to use her wings correctly. Currently, that was suppressed, making it hard for her to fly without that extra assistance. “Could I use spirit power to assist?”
Kana was trying to come up with ideas as she pulled out some meat from her storage box. “If I had to use magic power to keep the wings stable before then, I should be able to use spirit power in the same manner…. I think it is quite amazing I even got as high as I did without even using magic power or spirit power.”
Kana pursed her lips and wondered why dragons had to be so difficult when it came to using her wings. She had no idea if other winged species had to use either or in order to fly, but she knew birds on Earth could fly by using the wind. But they also had lighter bodies and different characteristics that enabled this. As for Kana, her wings were not something she used often and would forget she had unless she actually needed to do something to them like clean them or sit down in a chair not designed for winged people.
But now that she needed them, she really needed to check if they would actually carry her. But when she thought about the tests to get into Moon Crest Academy and how she was asked to carry people over a gap, she was suddenly very happy she never agreed to such a suicidal action. Just thinking about it made Kana feel a cold shiver run down her back. “I probably would not even have been able to make it half away before falling to my death….”
With a full belly, Kana once again went about trying to fly. This time she used her spirit power as she would her magic power. She slowly flapped her wings like she normally would and rose off the ground while at the same time flowing her spirit power through her wings like she would her magic power. “Hmmm? It is a little easier to fly but this consumption.”
Kana couldn’t help but frown. While it was indeed easier to fly, she was draining her spirit power quickly. She flew up over one hundred meters and looked around to get a better view of things. When she saw a small ledge, Kana’s eyes lit up, and quickly flew over to it.
As she got closer to it, she could feel her spirit power drying up quickly, making her flap her wings harder to get to the ledge as fast as possible. She did not wish to have all her spiritual qi dry up before even reaching the ledge, leaving her defenseless against any demonic beast.
Kana landed softly on the hard rocky surface and let out a relieved sigh. “Safe! Hmmm?” In front of her was an opening leading into a dimly lit cave. Her eyes widened when she felt a soothing force flowing out of it. “Such a strong spiritual qi!”
Kana was beyond happy as she ran forward and looked inside. “Not seeing anything out of the ordinary… But there is no telling what may be deeper inside.”
She looked more around the entrance at the high cliff walls and wondered if it was because of the position that no demonic beast had discovered this place. “I would think a flying demonic beast would find this place easily, but now that I think about it, I have not seen a single one since I arrived at the cliff wall… almost like this whole area is off limits to demonic beasts, but I do hear them higher above me, so maybe it is just this area?”
Kana was quite confused, but if this was a large source of spiritual qi, she could not let it pass by. If she could use it and make a breakthrough to foundation establishment, she could finally use swords to fly and have a bigger pool of spiritual qi. “If I am not willing to face danger, then I will never get to leave this world.”
Taking a deep breath, Kana stepped into the cave.
