Chapter 718: The Nest Part 2
Chapter 718: The Nest Part 2
“What do we do now?” Fan asked. He was worried they were all going to die here.
Kana looked around and could not see any human faced spiders around nor sense any close by. It was like they trapped them here and were trying to force them deeper into the cave. “Fei, look around and check for any passages. If the human faced spiders could get behind us, they must have used some kind of passageway that we might have missed.”
“On it!” Fei scanned each wall and ceiling, hoping to find something. While she was doing that, Kana was also doing the same, but she was unable to spot anything out of place.
“Kana, I found nothing!” Fei reported. She was very disappointed in not being able to find even a small passage.
“It was probably further down the way we came.” Kana frowned. If this was truly a nest, then there was probably a mother spider someplace, and if there was a mother spider, it would be of a higher ranking than the one she killed.
“Anyone got any ideas?” Nana asked. She couldn’t think of a way out of this.
“I could try to burn our way out, but if I went to the front right now, they might attack from the rear as soon as the flames began to burn the webbing. We are basically trapped in. We got only a small space with no webbing. My main concern is them coming from the rear as there are probably thousands of spiders down there. I can sense quite a few pretty far from our positions. Luckily they are not moving and seem to be staying in place.” Kana sat down and summoned her storage box, and began digging through it, hoping to find something of use. After a bit of searching her eyes lit up as she pulled out a pile of wood and placed it in front of her.
“Benefactor?” Zhong was confused as to what Kana was doing.
“Every part of my body is imbued with death element, this includes my flames and spiritual qi. If I start a fire here to light some torches and then blow some flames down the tunnel, lighting the webs on fire, the flames and my death element will spread, hopefully covering our rear some. At the same time, I want you guys to take some torches and light the webs in front of us on fire. Once the webs are cleared, I want Nana to take the lead with Fei as her eyes. Do not touch the flames. They are pure dragon and phoenix flames, they will turn you into ash in an instant. And even if you do survive somehow, you will end up with death element circulating in your body, which will eventually drive you insane, while slowly eating at your lifeforce until you die.
“So you all need to be careful. I will take up the rear. We need to be quick, so each one of you take a torch. I will control the flames as best as I can so that the torch will still slowly burn down. You will need to drop it before it touches your skin.” Kana warned. She would be straining herself trying to control so many flames at once, plus trying to keep the rear safe, but she had no choice. She wished things were not so dependent on spiritual qi in this world because she did not have a very abundant amount of it.
No one argued with Kana’s plan, it was the best option they had. They just felt bad for Kana since she was going to be taking on the brunt of the work once again. Kana made a fire and created a bunch of torches. Once she did, she stepped back and allowed everyone to pick up a torch as well. Once everyone was set, Kana began going over the last of her plan. “When I give the signal, Nana and Fei will begin lighting the cobwebs on fire. I will blow a stream of dragon breath down the opposite side of the tunnel. Once the webs are clear enough, we will begin our retreat. If anything happens…. I will do what I can to sav….”
“If anything happens, we will fight to the death together. Kana, I am sick of always being saved. It’s time for us to share the weight of the issues at hand and fight together even if it means we will all die.” Nana was not having any more of Kana’s self sacrificing. When she saw that lonely look in Kana’s eyes when she was telling everyone she was going to stay away from them and would go her separate ways, she made a firm decision to never leave Kana alone ever again.
“But….” Kana wanted to tell them there was no need for everyone to die, but when she saw everyone’s determined look, she lowered her head. These were true friends. Like her Big Sisters and her friends from her home world, they were all friends who would share the bad and good together. It was then that a thought came to Kana’s mind. ‘If I can bring them with me when I escape this world, maybe they will have a chance to see how small the world truly is.’
Kana had no idea how impossible her idea was, that breaking the bonds of this world for someone who was born on it was not something they could do or accomplish with help from another. The heavenly laws of the world would never allow it.
“Then let’s go down with the ship if we have to.” Kana knew that if things really came down to it, she could get out of here alive. But her control over her death element was not one hundred percent, and if she accidentally killed one of her friends while trying to wipe out everything with withering…. This thought pained her. She never wanted to kill someone close to her.
“Ship?” Fei had question marks floating above her head again, but Kana quickly cut her question off as she said: “Alright, let’s begin! Burn the webs!”
The group began lighting the webs on fire. Kana sensed the spiders deeper inside beginning to stir, so she took a deep breath and let out a mighty roar as she released her dragon breath.
*Roar!*
