Chapter 715: The Search For Frost Dew Grass Part 1
Chapter 715: The Search For Frost Dew Grass Part 1
That day the group decided to just get together and talk about everything they had gone through. Kana sat off to the side by herself on one side of the campfire. But even though she was at a far distance from the others, she was still happy to have friends who did not turn her away.
Kana found out that the four had gotten into many fights with other cultivators from other sects. It seemed this area was big with sect missions for all sects. Mainly because the areas prior to the forest have many resources that young cultivators can easily get. Luckily for them, they did not end up fighting any strong opponents.
After sharing their stories well into the night, Kana found a rock to lean against to sleep. She curled up and closed her eyes, and fell asleep. Before that, though, she warned everyone to stay away from her when she was sleeping, or they might end up dying. This was also why she chose a spot farther away from the camp.
When night turned to day, the group began moving deeper into the demonic beast infested forest. Temple Forest was known to have a high amount of demonic beasts and many that roamed in packs. So even if they were ranked two or three demonic beasts, it would be a problem if they ran into a large pack.
Kana took the rear and straggled behind. She did this on purpose as she would become the best bait for any pack. Fei and Nana complained at first, but when Kana said she would be perfectly fine, they could only give up and let her be bait.
It was best the best plan since any demonic beast that came near her would die. And if they were smart, they would sense the danger of getting close to Kana and stay far away from her and her group.
“Where are we headed?” Fan asked.
“Frost dew grass grows in dark, damp places, mainly caves. We were told we would need to find the forest caves that are dotted throughout the forest. The only problem is the amount he wants us to find, is quite a bit, so we will be here for a long time.” Nana replied. She was in the lead since she was the strongest under Kana.
“How are we supposed to find forest caves?” Fei asked, feeling a bit displeased. They were basically on a wild goose chase. There was no way to know where these forest caves were.
“I think we should go closer to the mountain range.” Kana suggested as she looked up through the cracks of the treetops at the tall peaks of the mountains. Although they looked very close, Kana knew they were far, far away.
“I think Benefactor suggestion is a good one. Only by moving closer to the mountains will we get more areas that would have caves.” Zhong quickly agreed to Kana’s suggestion.
“This is the only possibility. We just need to be careful. The closer to the mountain range we get, the stronger the demonic beasts. Keep a close eye on your surroundings.” Nana warned.
Everything was going fine for the first few days as they traveled through the forest, but on the fourth day, things changed. “Shhhh!”
Kana and the rest crouched down as they came to a small clearing in the woods. There was a group of armored wolves resting within the clearing. They were a ranked three demon beast and were very hard to handle because not only did they move in a pack, they were smart and were hard to predict. With their speed and armored hides, it made them hard to kill as well.
Nana motioned with her hand for everyone to move quietly. The group began making their way away from the clearing, hoping to not gain the attention of the armored wolves. “Grrrrr!!! AWOOOO!!”
“What? No!” Nana cried out. She did not know what happened, but when they moved through one of the bushes in front of her, she ran right into an armored wolf. It was like it was there waiting for her!
“They have encircled us. I never expected them to hide their scent so well.” Kana frowned. She did not smell any wolf in the direction they were heading. “Fan, Zhong help Nana! I can’t go near her.”
“Already on it!” Fan yelled out. He was already moving to help Nana, who was engaged in battle with the armored wolf she had run headfirst into.
“Fei, you cover them. I will pick off the rest. I want to see just how resistant they are to death.” Kana saw that although she was fighting a tough battle, Nana was in no danger at this time. She felt this was a good chance to test her death element on rank three demonic beast.
Kana sniffed the air and found her first target, and shot towards it. While they were pack hunters, the armored wolves were also cautious. They seemed to have sensed the strange power coming from Kana. Kana charged towards the closet armored wolf with her heavenly steps movement technique. When she was far enough away from the rest of her group, she allowed her death element to pour out of her body as she came upon the first armored wolf.
The armored wolf seemed to have sensed danger and tried to turn and run, but Kana was not going to let that happen. “Since you came, you should stay.”
Reaching her hand out towards the armored wolf, she softly hummed: ‘Wither….”
The armored wolf let out a howl of pain before quickly going silent. Its body fell to the ground, lifeless. Kana did not use her full powered withering because she wanted the beast core inside the armored wolf. Kana stabbed her sword into the armored wolf’s stomach, making blood splatter all over before shoving her hand in the wound and digging out the rank three beast core. She ignored the blood dripping from it as she brought it to her mouth and took a big bite out of it. “Hmmm…. If I can get a few more of these, I may be able to break through.”
