Chapter 698 - Trial End Part 1
Chapter 698 – Trial End Part 1
“Hah! Hah! We are the last group… Fei, get the others onto the bridge!” Kana ordered as she struck out for the who knows how many times now, decapitating another demonic beast.
“Kana, you can’t go on anymore. I will take up the rear!” Fei was at this point begging Kana. Kana was covered in many wounds. Her own blood was beginning to pool on the ground under her feet. She had been bitten and clawed to the point that others would have died by now.
“Fei, just do as I said! Stop arguing, or do you wish for me to die now!? You can’t even hold one off right now with one of your arms is injured, so shut up and do as I say!” Kana knew Fei was in not much better condition than herself. She could not fend off multiple demonic beasts with one arm that was barely still attached to the rest of her body.
Fei bit her lip, and before she could retort, the two young men behind her grabbed her good arm and pulled her with them. “Boss said go, so we go! We are mostly all alive thanks to her, do not hinder her!”
Being yelled at like that caused Fei’s eyes to well up with tears, knowing she was in the way at this time. But she still wanted to help… “It will be fine. I will be following you.” Kana reassured.
Luckily, by being on the skinny bridge meant an easier time dealing with the demonic beasts. Instead of being attacked by two or three, it was only one or two at a time. This helped a lot as she did not wish to keep fighting that losing battle anymore. She saw many of her comrades in arms die one after the other. The group that was almost fifty was now a mere twenty, and most were severely injured and could possibly succumb to their wounds at any moment. She was glad that she changed her mind and allowed people to exit through the door instead of standing there waiting for the others. After seeing how well the others fought, it showed just how united they were.
Those who died and bodies were not eaten or ripped to shreds were brought back as well. Kana did not wish to leave intact bodies behind. She felt they deserved a better grave. This, of course, came at the safety of being able to get the body. If they fell and were in a pocket of demonic beasts, there was nothing she or anyone could do. She could only mourn their deaths afterwards.
Kana took up the rear as Fei and the other two male hopeful disciples pushed their way across the bridge, doing their best to help Fei as blood dripped from her wounds. The bridge itself was now soaked in blood, making it extra slippery from the others who crossed before them. Adding in the extreme winds made cross even more difficult.
Kana had no choice but to move slower. The bridge could not support the weight of the demonic beasts that were trying to push their way onto the bridge. But Kana was not worried too much about this as she still had her movement technique that could propel her across the bridge at a high speed using the air itself as a means to escape.
The bridge was long, and because of the slow pace, Kana was left to really drag behind. She had to wait for the other three to be almost at the end of the bridge on the other side for her to be able to cut down what was in front of her and turn to run with all she had.
Seconds became minutes, and soon after almost fifteen more minutes, Kana heard the words she had been waiting for. “Kana, we are safe!”
Kana swung her sword, sending out a blade of sword qi cutting down the demonic beasts in front of her, turned and stepped on air, launching herself forward. Just as she did, three demonic beasts all jumped at the spot Kana was in. Two of which got tangled into the ropes of the bridge and fell off the side. The remaining one took the lead to those behind it and gave chase towards Kana.
Kana executed her heavenly steps movement technique over and over. Her body worn, covered in wounds, and drenched demonic beast blood as well as her own. With each step forward, Kana could see the light that was until a sound came from the sky. “Keereeee!“
Kana saw a shadow hover over her causing her face to pale as she looked up. She was in no position to dodge. No matter which way she went, she would end up either falling into the abyss below or in the claws of the massive flying demonic beast.
Kana could feel her life coming to an end. She had no escape. Feeling her energy draining quickly, Kana pressed hard on the air and shot forward with everything she had in a last ditch effort to escape. The dark shadow from above got bigger and bigger, but just as the giant demonic beast’s large claws were about to snatch her up, she suddenly felt her body being pulled into a warm embrace. “Miss Beautiful!”
Kana opened her eyes wide to see Fan Sengya’s handsome face staring down at her as he rushed to the other side of the bridge with her in her arms. Kana was confused as she thought he had already left the trial with the others. “Fan… How!?”
“I stayed to help the others get the injured out. When I saw Fei being carried over, before I could even ask where you were, she yelled at me to come save you. Luckily I made it in time. Miss Beautiful… No, Kana, you have sacrificed greatly in this disaster. All of us are truly grateful for what you have done for us. If we let you die now after you saved so many of us, we would not deserve to be alive.” Fan Sengya replied seriously. He looked at Kana, whose eyes were watering up, and smiled. Kana had thought she was going to die right then and there. She had used the last of her energy trying to push off the air once more in hopes of dodging the demonic beast.. Although she could never return his feelings, Kana decided she would definitely treat Fan Sengya as a good friend, especially now that she owned him for saving her life yet again.
