Chapter 689 – Trouble In The Skies Part 4
“They want us to keep firing like we are. They said if we keep this up, we will be able to last until the array is turned off and the elders can come to assist.” The archer girl frowned at this because she did not have enough arrows to last that long.
“Benefactor, can you use these?” The monk handed over a few arrows he made from the cliff rock. He knew once they started, there was no turning back. Since they decided to help, they had to help until the end.
The archer girl looked at the arrows made of stone and saw the sharp tips, and nodded her head. “They should do since I already injured it. Can you yell over to them that we understand?”
“No problem benefactor.” The monk went to the hole’s entrance and yelled out.
On Kana’s side, her ears perked up when she heard the voice from not far away. “Looks like we will be busy for the next few hours. Make yourself useful and taunt the bird while I fire off sword qi at it.”
“On it, Beautiful Miss!” Fan Sengya seemed to be like a dog who was listening to its master. With every order Kana gave him, he smiled brightly and went right to work. If one looked closely, they would see a phantom tail coming out of his backside, wagging away.
As the two parties were keeping the wind falcon busy. Elder Ning and the sectmaster were looking at the scene with approving gazes. “Not bad. They are working together in sync allowing no room for the wind falcon to attack.”
“It is a good thing that the array does not seal sword qi.” Elder Ning let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried for the little girl as she had no ability to fight back without spiritual qi. But since she could use sword qi, he was sure nothing would happen to her.
“Mmm… It is rare for new disciples to be able to be that for along in the sword dao. Besides that girl, Shi Yu, Kana is the only one to come to our sect to have the ability to use sword qi at such a young age. Sword cultivators would need to live many years to pursue the way of the sword. But two girls in a short time already have such an understanding of it. What makes it even more amazing is that even though Kana is the offspring of a divine beast, her bone age shows she is eighteen. Normally it would be much higher.” When the sect master heard about Kana’s actual bone age, he became even more interested in her and had even higher hopes for her. Their sect rules were to ignore a divine beast’s bone age during testing because it was hard to really determine their real age as they grew differently.
“Sect master, you forget that before Kana met us, she had no beast core nor any spiritual qi whatsoever. Now she is a rank two demonic beast and a qi gathering cultivator. Her power already exceeds that of anyone in her realm. She can easily fight qi condensation cultivators with ease. She is a peerless genius that we must nurture with care.” This was Elder Ning’s final judgment when it came down to Kana. She was an oddity. Something rarely seen in the cultivation world. It was as if she had fallen from the sky and appeared out of nowhere one day.
He had never heard of any offspring of divine beasts not having a beast core. So for her to not have one but yet still be a divine beast was strange. It would be different if she was a hybrid and took more after her human parents as she would only have her human appearance. Kana was a pure divine beast who could transform into her original form. This was what was distinct about divine beasts and made Kana even stranger, as most divine beasts would have a core when they were first born.
Factoring in all these aspects and how quickly Kana was cultivating both her cultivation systems, she was definitely someone who would become a mighty figure in the future, and to have the ability to be someone who was able to help such a figure was an honor for him. The sect master also felt the same way.
“This is true. We can only wait now until the array turns off on its own. As soon as it does, kill the wind falcon and give the core to Kana to consume. It will be her reward for keeping the worst from happening. As for the other three, reward them each with a high-grade spirit stone.” The sect master would not let their efforts go unrewarded. While he could still not let them join the sect because of this, even though he wished to. He would only hope these four could pass the final round of testing which came after this. After that would be the new disciples’ battle.
The three stood in the air and continued to watch. Elder Shaun was waiting to take down the figure hiding in the trees and interrogate them. Only by getting to the bottom of this would they be able to find the one who was behind this.
As the hours passed, the dawn of a new day arrived. Kana and the archer girl were tired. Both had been alternating their strikes in perfect sync for hours on end, keeping the wind falcon at bay. The wind falcon was in such a confused state it could not act based on instincts alone. A pile of stone arrows littered the ground below from all the arrows that the archer girl had fired off.
But finally, their painstaking efforts had finally paid off. They each felt a surge of spiritual qi fill their bodies, signaling the end of the test and that the array had finally turned off. A voice filled the area as two figures slowly descended from the sky, “You all held on well. We are proud to see such self-sacrificing disciples. We hope you will be able to pass the final trial.”
Elder Ning and the sect master both stood in the sky in front of the wind falcon with swords drawn. The wind Falcon felt a heavy pressure weighing down on it and knew its time had come to an end. It did not try to run away.. It could only flap its wings to stay in the air and lower its head in submission.
