Chapter 531 - Weeding Out The Bad Part 1
As the days passed, Kana and her group had hidden themselves lying in wait, waiting for the culprit who was the cause of the destruction of the crops to appear. Aruya was casting holy magic on the crops, which was helping them grow faster.
After a week, the crops had grown to a few centimeters tall. According to the old man, it would normally take three to four weeks, depending on the weather, to get to this height, so they at least knew that holy magic was helping some.
In a month, the crops had all reached a meter tall, and this was when they had to really start keeping an eye on things. This was around the height that the old man said the crops would normally be destroyed at. This was about six months' worth of growth for the plants. "Kana..."
"I know. We will wait until they are at the field.." Kana watched as a shadow made its way towards the field. She did not want to move in case they were not her target, but she did not need to wait long before they found out.
The shadow moved quickly and stopped right outside the field, and pulled something out of their person. It was then that Kana waved her hand, and a wall of earth surrounded the shadow. Startled, the shadow yelled out: "What!? Who dares stop a follower of Nomia!?"
"Ah…. He gave himself away without even giving me a chance to interrogate him. This is no fun…." Kana frowned as she walked through an opening in the wall of dirt and looked at this shadow. It was a middle aged man wearing white robes and had an emblem of Nomia hanging from his neck. The Emblem was a circle with a sword in it. The only reason Kana recognized it was because the people who she had spoken to had given her as much information as possible.
When the middle aged man saw Kana, his lips curled into a mocking smile. "You! You're a demi, and you dare go against the holy city!? Do you have any idea what would happen to your kind!?"
Kana looked at the middle aged man and shook her head. It seemed this man was not too bright. She wondered if the holy city knew they sent out such an idiot. Or maybe they did send him out since it didn't matter if he came back or died while trying to complete his task.
"Well, now that I know who is behind it all, I guess there is only one thing left to do…" Kana snapped her fingers instantly, incinerating the man into ash before having Ganjo cancel the wall of earth. She looked at Aoi and the rest and smiled as she asked: "Are you ready to go on a raid?"
"If it means putting people into place for harming innocent people, I am all for it!" Aruya nodded her head. She wanted to deal with this holy city for doing such things to innocent people who had not caused anyone harm.
"Kana, you know me and Naru will always follow you," Aoi answered for herself and Naru. Naru only nodded.
"I will follow you and do my best to assist you." Ganjo also nodded his head.
"Then let's go! Remember, do not attack anyone who is not attacking us." Kana did not wish to harm any innocent lives this time, but she was not against killing those who attacked her. With everyone's nod, they headed out.
As the sun began to rise over the horizon, Kana and her group were now standing in a long line to enter the holy city. Kana wanted to see if they would let her in first and if not, only then would she bust the gate down. She saw no reason not to. The holy city itself was a sham, from what she could tell. It may have been a great city where values were respected in ancient times, but now it seemed more like a corrupt place full of greedy people. If you have the money, you could enter, but those without unless they brought something good to the table could not? This was a hypocritical way of doing things for a holy city that was built to be a place of shelter in case of bad times.
Kana really couldn't understand why all these so called religions or organizations that were there and meant to help the people became so corrupt over time, losing the ideals they were spewing from their mouths. It just did not make sense to her. It was the same for the mortal world where she came from, the church had been corrupted. She wondered when she would find a world where the people who are meant to follow the ideals instilled into them by their gods would actually do just that.
Kana scratched her head, trying to wash away her thoughts. She waited in line patiently. Even though some were giving her strange looks, she didn't care. She knew demi humans and humans did not get along too well on this world. But she could care less about that. As her turn arrived, the guard at the gate frowned but still said in a calm voice: "Demi humans are not allowed to enter."
"Are you sure?" Kana asked, looking at the guard. She then titled her head to the side and looked at the large gates. "It seems your gates have an issue."
At her words, the gates suddenly explode, shattering into little bits. All those around them fell to the ground due to the loud explosion. The gates were only made of wood, so a small detonation magic was all it needed to be destroyed. While the guard hit the ground, Kana casually walked by him and walked towards the gates. The guard, of course, saw this but didn't dare raise his head. He valued his life more than anything! Luckily he did not stop Kana, so he was able to save his life but the other guards… There was a scream, and then nothing left. Kana had activated her withering and anyone who was caught up in it vanished without a trace.
