Reborn As A Dragon Girl With A System

Chapter 516 - Remnant Part 2

"Old man, that is..." Aruya looked grey substance in the glass ball and realized exactly what it was. "That is her memories?"

"Mmm, from one of her previous lives. It is, I think, maybe the one hundredth and twenty seventh life. That black dome she is in was from a different planet that she had come from. It doesn't belong to that world in any way. It would not react to anyone's soul except her own. In other words, it sat there waiting for her. At the time, the planet she was on was not what it was today. It had a very primitive life roaming about. She had escaped her homeworld after being hurt. I think it was because she failed at some kind of uprising. She was human then, and the humans created an advanced AI that wiped out half the world's population. Sadly during that lifetime, she had only just become a goddess of death after she fled that world. But her wounds were too grave. In order to warn anyone who came across the dome, she stuck her memories of her world into it. I tampered with it all so that only her future self would be able to access it." The old man answered. "Anyway, just watch."

"Wait, old man, did you say you tampered with it!? Why!?" Aruya was confused as to why he would do such a thing.

"Well, because I knew she would return to this planet one day." The old man replied as if things were meant to be this way. To him, everything had an order to things. In order to keep the black dome from being touched by anything, he had the death element contained in a certain radius, acting as a barrier of sorts keeping anyone from touching it.

"This… You! You knew all along what would happen! So why did you make me wait in that room for so long if you knew she was only going to show up at a certain time!?" Aruya wanted to kick the old man with everything she had, but she dared not to, in case he snapped his fingers and made her disappear!

"Because not even I can say when things will happen. Kana herself is an example of how my way of doing things can differ. But the motion of fate will always go back on course, just like how she chose to make her way to the forest of death. I did not direct her in any way. She has been making these choices herself, and each one is what makes her unique and perfect as my successor. She will one day stand as my equal, and to be honest, I am eagerly waiting for that day."  The old man answered with a smile.

Aruya was at a loss for words. She wondered if this meant that the one who stood above all, who was revered by everyone in both Eden and Aurora, was not completely omnipotent. That even things were out of his control sometimes.

"Don't worry. She will remember you guys soon. If not, this world may be the next." The old man tried to calm Aurya's worries. "That girl is already beginning to dream about her current life before I sealed her memories. It is only a matter of time."

"Humph! I hope so!"

Kana drew closer to the glass ball with the grey substance inside it that seemed to grow very excited as she grew near it. She reached up and touched the glass ball, only for her hand to pass right through it. This caused her to panic, and she tried to retrieve her hand quickly, but before she could, the gray substance suddenly acted as if it had found a vortex in her hand and was sucked in and disappeared!

Kana did not have time to even try to figure out what was going on when her head began to throb, and images of another person's life began to flow into her mind. Scene after scene from a little girl all the way up until their death, Kana saw the person's entire life. The girl had her name and was only thirty years of age when she passed away. But the hell she lived through was enough to bring tears to Kana's eyes. She felt like she had just lived that life. The pain, the anguish, filled her heart, causing a power she never knew she had to suddenly surge out of her.

"Ahhh! Why!?" Kana fell to the floor. The pain of that person's life was making this strange new power go berserk.  It swirled around her, filling the room, causing anything with it to fly around as if it was caught up in a tornado. Even the glass ball was not safe as it shattered into millions of pieces due to the strong surge of energy pulsating out in waves from Kana's body. She was knelt on the ground, hugging her body, trying her best to calm this power down. At this time, she was very scared. She had never felt a power so powerful before.

"No! I have to get it under control!" She felt if she continued to exude this power, not only would she be in trouble but those around her. She felt this power was enough to destroy the entire world if left unchecked. Bell lived on this world. She couldn't let it be destroyed by her own hands. She did not want to kill her own daughter due to her inability to control her own power. Yes… She did not know why but she knew this was her power, not something she gained from that grey substance.

It was then that she realized she was unconsciously rejecting the power inside her. She calmed her mind and ignored the new memories that were popping up, and took a deep breath. Words began to appear in her mind. She did not know if these words would be able to help her current predicament, but she figured there was no harm in trying.. She parted her lips and softly said: "I am death and death is me…."
