Chapter 477 - The True Nature Of The Goddess Of Death
A land mass appeared in front of Kana after many weeks of flying over the ocean. It was covered in a heavy, dense fog and a thick dark cloud bank that covered the sky. Flashes of lightning could be seen streaking across the sky. "This sure looks like a place only the powerful would be able to survive in!"
Kana landed on the ground. As soon as her feet touched the sandy beach, Ganjo appeared next to her. "Master, we are already being watched."
Kana quickly pulled out her sword and scanned the tree line in front of her. One could tell at first glance that this place had not been touched by anyone with how overgrown the entire forest was. But as she tried to sense the monsters in the tree line, she frowned because she was unable to pick any of them up. "Ganjo, are you sure I can not sense anything..."
"Yes… they are two times as strong as you and are of humanoid nature." Ganjo replied.
His words made Kana frown even more. She should have realized anything powerful would be at least some kind of sentient bipedal being. No sooner did Ganjo answer her did a figure with a large sword on its back and fur covering half its body walked out of the tree line. "Seems we got a newcomer. You have two choices: battle me and die or just die. Pick!"
Kana snorted at what seemed to be a different form of beastkin. They seemed to have evolved much differently without any human influence. She watched as many more stepped out of the tree line, each one, male or female, had a heavy air of killing intent directed towards her. "Seems like a tribe owns this area, and on top of that, I am not welcomed one bit."
"It seems that way Master, may I suggest letting me join you on this fight, or else you might just die. Their power is many times stronger than your own." Ganjo suggested. He did not wish to see his new master die, nor did he wish to die with his new master.
"Intervene if I am in trouble, but Ganjo, never underestimate the goddess of death." Kana was a little bit excited because not only could she gain experience from killing these tribal beastkins, but she could also steal some of their power. Since they had already threatened her life, any misgivings on not wanting to kill them already flew out the window. "So stand back and watch for now."
Kana stepped forward and activated her withering. She was not here to play. This time she was going to fight to the death, and she knew as soon as she killed one, the rest would attack. Since that was the case, having her withering activated now was the best option.
The sudden surge of power coming from Kana surprised the beastkin who challenged her, but instead of being scared of the death element in her body, he seemed to see it as a real challenge. Kana raised her sword and pointed it at the challenger. "Let me warn you now. Since you challenged me, and your people directed their killing intent at me, I will not spare anyone. You will all become levels for me as of today!"
"Haha! Good, this is what I wanted to hear! No fear, let fights to the death!" The beastkin roared before slashing out at Kana, causing a wave of energy to shoot right at her.
Kana had not expected the beastkins sword to actually shoot rays of energy and almost did not dodge the attack in time. "Hahaha! Jump! Dodge! You will need to do better than that!" The beastkin yelled out while laughing at the top of his lungs as he slashed out many more times.
Kana started to get annoyed, so she decided to give the bastard a surprise. "Creation magic: Reflection Barrier!"
A transparent blue shield appeared in front of Kana as the waves of energy reached Kana. They hit the barrier and were sucked in, and almost at the same time, they were sent flying back towards the beastkin. It was now his turn to panic as he never expected his own attack to be reflected back at him! "Hahaha!" a roar of laughter came from behind him, angering him even more. He had never been so humiliated before and by an outsider nonetheless!
Seeing how his long ranged attack was no longer effective, he shot forward and almost instantly appeared in front of Kana, but all he saw was Kana smile brightly at him as she reached out and grabbed his face and gripped it tightly within her hand. She parted her lips as she moved her head forward and whispered: "Don't fuck with the goddess of death, now turn into my power and levels!"
"AHHHH!!!!" The beastkin tried to struggle to get free, but he couldn't muster up any strength. After flailing around for a few minutes, his entire body began to shrivel up until he was nothing more than a husk. Kana turned all the energy she got from him directly into her own power. She then released her soul and grabbed the soul from the skull and dragged it out, raised it in the air, and dropped it into her mouth. "Burp... Not bad..."
The laughter immediately stopped as they all started at Kana. The expression of mockery that they all held before was all but gone. They were now vigilant. Each one of them had their weapons at the ready. They watched as Kana tossed their tribe member's body to the side and returned her soul back inside her. They then saw her eyes turn to look over at them. "You know, normally, I would never do such a thing. But you see, I need to grow strong. I need to be strong enough to protect everything I love. Now for the first time in my life, I have realized that hiding parts of me is no good. As I am the goddess of death, I should act more on this when people direct their killing intent towards me. You see, I came to this island to level up, and since you are all here and wanted me to die as soon as I set foot here, I have no issues turning you into the levels I need."
"Kill her before she kills us!"
