Chapter 422 - Angelica’s Trial
"This place is?" Angelica looked at the tall shelves that rose up in what seemed like an endless spiral towards the high ceilings. Each shelf was filled with old books and scrolls. "A Library?"
"Yes." Creige's projection appeared in the room just behind Angelica, causing her to almost jump out of her skin. "Ah! Handsome Papa, can you not do that!?"
Creige chuckled and patted Angelica's head: "Out of you three sisters, I wanted you to understand why you are different from others. And understand what the halo on your and Rain's heads represent. The books here are just part of an ancient history long forgotten in the sea of stars. "
Angelica's nose wrinkled slightly as she asked: "How is this a trial? Do I not need to learn how to fight or go through great difficulties?"
"It is precisely because you think this way that at this time you do not need to do that. I set up each of these trials as a way for all three of you girls to break through the faults that you each have. As you are the one who shows the most promise when it comes to knowledge, I wanted you to learn more about what you are. I hope you can pass this onto your sister Rain as you are the last descendants of a long forgotten race. " Creige waved his hand, and a few scrolls and books flew off the shelf and landed on the table. "Start with these. I will leave it to you." Creige said this, then disappeared, leaving Angelica by herself again.
Angelica let out a sigh and scrunched her nose. She didn't want to learn history during a trial! She thought she would go through some epic battles and learn some kind of new spell. Now she has to learn history! But since her Handsome Papa asked her, she would do it albeit reluctantly.
She sat down and took the first book that was on top of the pile, and opened it up. "The Nephilim." Angelica looked at the picture in the book that depicted a man with horns on his head and a halo hanging off of one of them. Angelica was a bit confused as to why Rain and her looked like a person from another race. While these people had large wings on their back and had no tails, just based on the halo that hangs off their horns was enough to show their distinct feature that only belonged to the Nephilim.
Feeling confused as to what was going on, Angelica buried her head in the books and continued reading. Tens of millions of years ago, in the sea of stars, a powerful race suddenly emerged called the Nephilim. This race was both the controllers of life and death. They could not only kill a person with ease but also revive them as well. Because of this fact, they were seen as deities in the eyes of the common folk and objects of fear in the eyes of the powerful. This was because they had control of a single power that could defeat anyone with ease, no matter how powerful they were. This power was called withering. It sucked the life out of those around the caster and allowed them to use that energy to make themselves strong. It was a power that could recover severed limbs in an instant.
Because of this, many did not wish to face such monsters in battle and left the Nephilim to do their own thing. But there were also people who felt that the Nephilim were too powerful and devised evil schemes to begin what was known as Death's Purge. Because the Nephilim's were bringers of death and could control one's life with a single touch, they were feared, and once something is feared, people wish to destroy it.
Because of this, there was a massacre… Both sides took heavy losses. But because they were out numbered and the withering was not something that could be used without touching its target, the Nephilim were all but wiped out except for a single girl. The sole survivor of the Nephilim at the age of ten was left alone in the world.
In order to hide her identity, the girl ripped her own halo off and blended into the crowd. She left the human lands and made her way to the demon's domain. She dared not live among humans who scorned her and killed her family and her people. She could only hope that within the land of demons, she could find a place to settle down and call home.
This girl traveled day and night for months on end. In order to stay alive, as she passed through towns, she stole food and killed anyone who tried to stop her. She was ruthless. Anyone who showed even a hint of hostility towards her, she would lash out at wanting to take their life. She couldn't control the anger that welled up inside her.
Because of her actions she had been chased time and time again. But each time, she would run and hide within the depths of the forest. She would either kill her pursuers or escape the net that they laid out for her.
"Why is this so detailed? It is as if the person who wrote this was the one who lived through all of this. Is this really a history or someone's made up story?" Angelica paused her reading and pondered. She wondered why her father picked this book specifically.

Sei and Yuthia walked into Tilia's bed chambers and looked at the small figure lying on the bed. "Whoever did this really wanted her dead. She lost an entire arm and half her right shoulder."
"From the looks of it, these look like teeth marks… Keniil, have there been any power monster sightings in the area as of late?" Yuthia asked.
"Not that I am aware of at this time but my men will be able to tell me more when they return. I sent out people to investigate thoroughly."
