Xue Rui reached out and knocked on the door. "Hello, we’re Gu Muxue’s family. Is now a good time to come in?"

Gu Muxue blinked. ’Xue Rui never knocks before going into Xue Yao’s room. So he *does* know you’re supposed to ask before entering a girl’s room?’

’Saying they were her family was the easiest explanation right now, but it still sounded a little strange to her. Still... she didn’t mind it.’

"Come in," came a chorus of girls’ voices.

Xue Rui pushed the door open and saw a four-person dorm with loft beds over desks. It seemed Gu Muxue was the last one to arrive.

Her three roommates were sitting on their chairs, chatting. They had been talking all morning and felt they got along great. They were a little worried the last person wouldn’t fit in, so they’d been looking forward to meeting Gu Muxue.

"So... so beautiful," someone murmured.

’That natural face, paired with a long white dress... she looks like a fairy who’s descended to the mortal realm. She doesn’t fit in with this dorm room at all!’

Gu Muxue’s aura inexplicably created a sense of distance between them.

The three exchanged a glance. ’Well, this is just great,’ they thought. ’This isn’t about her fitting in with us anymore. It’s that, standing in front of our new roommate, we feel... a little inadequate?’

"Hi everyone, I’m Gu Muxue. We’ll be roommates from now on. I brought milk tea for everyone," Gu Muxue said as she opened an insulated bag to hand them out to the girls.

"Hello, hello! I’m Gao Shufen."

"Li Yina."

"Han Wei."

Gao Shufen came forward and took the heavy bag from Gu Muxue, placing it on a desk. Then, she warmly ushered them further into the room.

Xue Rui nodded in satisfaction. ’This girl’s luck is pretty good. These roommates don’t wear much makeup; you can tell at a glance they’re the type who studied hard in high school. The moment we came in, they immediately made space, and one even looked ready to help with the luggage. They have good manners, too.’

"Wow, so much milk tea! I wanted to get some earlier, but the line was way too long."

"Huh? You got it delivered? Why didn’t I think of that?"

"Han Wei, there’s a room temperature one here. You can have this."

Li Yina said as she started handing out the drinks.

Gu Muxue pressed her lips together, her eyes wide with surprise as she looked at Xue Rui. ’I’ve given plenty of gifts before, but I usually just get a polite thank you. This girl looks absolutely overjoyed... and it’s just over some milk tea Xue Rui bought? And Xue Rui was so considerate! He even thought that someone might not be able to drink a cold one...’

Xue Rui smiled. ’That’s just how people are,’ he thought. ’They’re happiest when they get something unexpected that they happened to want. A simple way to explain it would be the joy of running out of cigarettes in the middle of the night, tossing and turning, and then finding half a pack in a jacket pocket. That feeling is even better than winning the lottery...’

"Hello, Uncle. Hello, senior," Gao Shufen greeted them politely.

"Hello," Xue Rui said with a smile and a nod. He found Gu Muxue’s bunk, climbed up in a couple of quick movements, and motioned for Yang Xing to hand him the bedding.

The girls in the dorm were surprised. They’d seen plenty of upperclassmen helping to carry things, but this was the first time they’d seen one make a bed.

"Senior, you don’t have to do that..." Gao Shufen said, flinching slightly. ’Having a guy make a bed for a girl... why does that feel so weird?’

"That... that’s my boyfriend, Xue Rui," Gu Muxue said, looking down. She hadn’t expected to be introducing her boyfriend to her new roommates the very first time they met.

The girls’ expressions instantly turned a little strange. They glanced down at Gu Muxue, then up at Xue Rui on the top bunk. No matter how they looked at it, their auras didn’t seem to match. Still, no one said a word, figuring it was just a case of "to each their own."

"I can do it myself, you don’t have to help," Gu Muxue said, looking up at Xue Rui. She suddenly remembered she was supposed to make her own bed in the dorm. ’But making a bed is so simple,’ she thought, ’do I really need to learn how? If I need help with something so trivial, I’m afraid I’ll give my roommates a bad impression.’

Xue Rui chuckled. "Then you do it."

With that, he made room for Gu Muxue and hopped down to chat with her new roommates.

"So, where are you all from?" Xue Rui asked with a smile, taking a seat.

"Hong Kong," said Gao Shufen.

Xue Rui thought for a moment, then said, "Hong Kong... they eat *doudan* there, right? Those big green worms don’t look pretty, but I hear they’re all-natural and high in protein..."

"Oh? Have you been to Hong Kong?" Gao Shufen’s eyes lit up. Not many people remembered such a small city; she hadn’t even found a hometown association group yet. And here was Xue Rui, who actually knew something about her home.

"I’m from Jin Province. A friend of mine went and brought back some local specialties," Xue Rui said with a laugh. After all, he’d met a lot of people and spent years surfing the internet, so he knew a little about many different cities.

"I’m from Yun Province," said Han Wei.

"Ah, the mushrooms there are famous! I’ve been a few times. Did you happen to bring any flower cakes? Let me try one. The ones you can buy around here just don’t taste right, and I’m really craving an authentic one," Xue Rui said brazenly.

"How did you know I brought some?" Han Wei said with a laugh and began rummaging through her luggage. She’d just had his milk tea, after all, so she decided to give him a few extra.

Xue Rui thought to himself, ’College freshmen are always the most enthusiastic. They’re more than willing to share their hometown specialties, especially when someone like me proactively compliments their home. It really provides that emotional validation.’

As expected, Han Wei handed Xue Rui a handful of individually wrapped flower cakes.

Xue Rui tossed one to Yang Xing, who was sitting in the corner. "Uncle Yang, have a taste."

"This kid," Yang Xing said, shaking his head helplessly. He noticed Gu Muxue was still scrambling around on the bunk, having spent ages without even managing to get the bedsheet on. He walked over and said, "Let me do it."

Gu Muxue was starting to get frustrated. ’At home, the maid always changes the sheets so quickly,’ she thought. ’Why is it so difficult when I try to do it myself?’
