Chapter 2725 Suffering the Consequences

Xuexue couldn’t quite figure it out. Sometimes when she chatted with Zi Xia, perhaps by chance, it could be overheard by someone with an agenda, which wasn’t surprising because the War Prince’s Mansion was full of hidden talents and mixed with spies from various forces.

At this rate, they simply had no secrets anymore.

Xuexue stood up, determined to root out the malignant tumors of the various factions within the mansion, regardless of whether they were spies of the Emperor.

So, she called the steward, saying there were too many freeloaders in the mansion, and the expenses were immense; the women in the mansion, after being raised for so many years, should be giving back now.

The steward had a bewildered look, thinking, the Prince isn’t here, what does the Princess Consort intend to do?

Xuexue sat on the Noble Consort Chair and calmly said, "Since the Prince granted me the authority to manage the Prince’s Mansion, I obviously have the right to deal with these women."

The steward, bowing with caution, asked, "Princess Consort, what exactly do you intend to do?"

Xuexue frowned slightly, speaking tenderly, "What could I do? I’m cleaning up after the Prince. The abundance of women in the mansion breeds more troubles. A while back, a few women almost blew me to the sky; if the Prince didn’t keep so many women, would this even happen?"

The steward felt somewhat amused and bewildered, thinking, Princess Consort, it was you who offended Old Master Gu, leading to his discontent that initiated the issue with the explosives, wasn’t it? How is this entirely the Prince’s fault?

It’s tough being a man, even tougher being a man married to a Princess Consort, the steward felt somewhat sympathetic to the Prince.

Wronged, so wronged!

Clearly, it’s none of the Prince’s business, yet the Princess Consort places all the blame upon him.

Moreover, the Prince was harsh in dealing with just the bombing incident concerning the Princess Consort; three women were unceremoniously executed in front of everyone in the mansion.

The bloody scene terrified the hundreds of women housed in the mansion, some were jolted awake even while sleeping at night; for these recent days, everyone has been exceedingly obedient, daring not to stir any trouble.

The Princess Consort again, who knows what whim she had, started targeting these women once more.

However, in this mansion, the Princess Consort is the master; whatever she says is right, the steward could say nothing but nod continuously: "Indeed, indeed, the Princess Consort is always right."

Xuexue coughed once, cleared her throat, and with great seriousness said, "Aren’t there many brothels in the Capital lacking girls?"

The steward was startled within, what did the Princess Consort want to do? The girls the Prince kept in the mansion, their statuses weren’t low, some were even from official families, with their fathers serving in the Imperial Court. If you sent their daughters to the brothels, it wouldn’t be surprising for an uproar to occur in court tomorrow!

The Princess Consort doing this, wouldn’t it cause trouble for the Prince?

The steward awkwardly said, "Princess Consort, doing this isn’t quite appropriate, is it?"

Xuexue expressionless, replied, "Then you tell me how to handle it? So many people, they all need food, all require expenditures, our mansion can’t support them."

Indeed, several hundred women, the monthly sustenance alone represented substantial expenses, and they all required stipends monthly; although each stipend didn’t seem much, combined they were a considerable sum.

Calculating annually, the figure was quite daunting too.

Xuexue muttered to herself, "Doesn’t matter, while the Prince is away, I’ll deal with them first. After so many years of the mansion’s support, it’s time they contributed."

The steward was on the brink of tears, thinking, why is the Princess Consort so sharp? She intentionally dealt with it while the Prince was away; in the end, he’d bear the repercussions.

It’s expected that the Prince, who never scolded the Princess Consort, will certainly hold him accountable as the steward.
