Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 2688: Gu Family Residence
At the corner of the western streets of the Capital, there stands a mansion rivaling the Imperial Palace, with its red lacquered gate topped by a black Chinese Cedarwood plaque inscribed with two grand calligraphic words: Gu family residence.
On either side of the gate sit two lions allegedly made of gold, mouths agape in a terrifying snarl, gazing down at the world with disdain.
No wonder Old Master Gu is The Richest Man Under the Heavens; his generosity is immense. Perhaps he isn’t too worried about theft, considering these lions weigh over a thousand pounds, and no one could muster the strength to move them.
Plus, with the Emperor backing him, who would be so reckless as to attempt stealing his golden lions? Even if someone managed to take them, they couldn’t hope to smuggle them out of the Capital.
The golden lions, weighing in at over a thousand pounds, are simply too eye-catching, impossible to hide.
At this moment, two men in black stopped at the gate, their eyes continually assessing the luxurious residence.
One was tall and lean, both dressed in black, faces wrapped in black fabric; even with lanterns hanging at the entrance, their features remained obscured.
"Prince, how much do you think this pair of golden lions is worth?" Xuexue asked, eyes gleaming.
Long Rui shook his head: "Immeasurable!"
These two men in black turned out to be Long Rui and Xuexue, sneaking to the Gu family residence under the cover of night.
Though they couldn’t confront Old Master Gu openly, that didn’t mean they couldn’t do so covertly.
Thus, they decided to fight fire with fire.
Xuexue couldn’t help but caress the golden lions, muttering to herself: "Oh my! The more I look, the more I fall in love with these treasures."
Without much thought, Long Rui said, "Sweetheart, let’s quickly go and settle accounts with that old rascal; he’s got the guts to blow you up with explosives. We’ll deal with him first."
Xuexue absentmindedly replied, "Mm, alright."
At the moment, her mind was entirely fixated on the golden lions.
"Hurry up, stop dawdling!"
"Alright, you go ahead and scout. I’ll follow shortly!"
"Very well, as your husband, I’ll check ahead for any danger." Finished speaking, Long Rui leaped over the wall.
As soon as Long Rui’s figure disappeared, Xuexue waved her delicate hand, and the golden lion in front of her vanished instantly. After finishing, she walked to the other lion and repeated the same gesture.
The two majestic golden lions at the entrance of the Gu family residence suddenly vanished without a trace.
After completing everything, Xuexue smiled contentedly, knowing that with space at her disposal, pilfering—cough cough—collecting items was most convenient and could be done seamlessly.
When it all blows up at the Emperor’s court, they won’t be able to trace the whereabouts of the golden lions.
"Ah, what stuff nearly killed me!" came a sharp scream from inside the space.
Xuexue sheepishly stuck out her tongue, "Oh dear, did I bump into Little Tiger again?"
These two lions aren’t like the usual trinkets that can be casually dealt with; a hit from them means resting for two days at least.
With the golden lions weighing a thousand pounds, if it hits, it’s estimated to knock you out for a good half-year or more — if Little Tiger, with its Divine Tiger physique, manages to survive, regular folks would be out cold.
"Little Tiger, are you okay?"
It’s a rare occasion when Xuexue shows a scrap of conscience and asks; usually, she pretends to be oblivious.
"Master, what are you tossing in here? Stones? Are you trying to kill me?" Little Tiger’s lamentation echoed.
Luckily, it’s agile, or else it would indeed have been flattened by now.
The master is too much; previously throwing in vases or antiques now and then was tolerable, but now, tossing in a thousand-pound stone? What’s she aiming for?
Xuexue awkwardly laughed, "It’s not stones, it’s gold."
