Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 2663: Miss Sun
The man was already clumsy with words to begin with, and now that the woman was both scolding and poking him, he was left speechless.
Most importantly, a sharp, piercing pain kept shooting from his chest—this woman in red had such long nails, like tiny knives, scratching red marks all over his chest.
"Princess Consort, please see clearly, this damned servant is deliberately slandering me. You must stand up for me!" The woman in red cried and made a scene.
As long as she could throw their minds into chaos, she’d have a chance to escape.
Xuexue watched this farce coldly, then turned to ask the steward, "Steward, did Miss Sun go out this afternoon?"
Steward: "Reporting to Princess Consort, no!"
In the mansion, whenever anyone left the grounds, they had to register with the steward; the steward had a small notebook specifically to record the list of people entering and leaving each day.
So whoever went out—just by checking with the steward, it would be clear at a glance.
Hearing this, the woman in red felt she now had the upper hand and raised her voice even more. She turned to wail at the large group of women: "Sisters, you all heard it, I never even left the War Prince’s Mansion this afternoon, so how did I become a suspect for delivering explosives! This damned servant has such a black heart! In order to clear himself, he wants me to die in his place. You must stand up for me, how am I this unlucky! A-woo-woo...!"
The woman in red covered her face with her hand, bawling loudly while secretly spreading her fingers a little, wanting to see what expression the Princess Consort had.
Suddenly, through the gap between her fingers, she saw Xuexue’s sharp, cutting gaze fixed right on her. She got such a fright that even her crying paused for a beat.
The man had been rebutted by the woman in red to the point he couldn’t utter a single word.
He knelt on the ground, sweating anxiously as he looked at Xuexue: "Princess Consort, this humble one truly isn’t lying, it was her, it was her who told this humble one to deliver the gifts to the War Prince’s Mansion."
The woman in red’s behavior was suspicious, and Xuexue also found her very suspicious, but there was evidence that the woman in red had not left the mansion, so for the moment, she couldn’t come to a conclusion.
Xuexue: "Steward, who else went out today?"
The steward had almost been blown to death by the explosives, and he hated the person who sent that explosives bundle to the bone, so he answered at once: "Reporting to Princess Consort, Miss Zhao went out at noon! She only came back in the afternoon."
In the crowd, a girl in blue, around seventeen or eighteen years old, trembled all over when she heard this. Her legs went weak and she nearly collapsed to the ground.
Xuexue’s eyes swept coldly over the crowd as she asked, "Where is Miss Zhao?"
Everyone was afraid of getting dragged into trouble. The ones standing beside Miss Zhao all whooshed away, automatically stepping aside.
Only Miss Zhao was left standing there all alone.
These people were really too realistic—normally it was all "sister this, sister that," but at a critical moment, not a single one could be relied on.
Miss Zhao looked so pitiful, all by herself, her whole body trembling as she walked forward. She took the initiative to kneel on the ground and answered softly, "Princess Consort, this humble one is here!"
Xuexue sized her up from head to toe. Miss Zhao’s looks could be considered delicate and pretty, with a bit of charm, but the fabric she wore was not very good, which showed that her family background was only so-so.
Xuexue: "You left the War Prince’s Mansion today?"
"Yes!"
Miss Zhao’s gaze flickered, and from time to time she secretly glanced at Miss Sun standing beside her, as if she had something she couldn’t say.
Xuexue noticed the hint of something: "What’s wrong? You have something to say?"
Miss Sun immediately coughed.
Miss Zhao lowered her head and no longer dared to utter a sound.
Well, well, she still dared to threaten someone right in front of Xuexue! That took some nerve.
Xuexue swept Miss Sun with a sharp gaze and said eerily, "Miss Sun, is your throat unwell?"
Being called out by the Princess Consort, Miss Sun immediately lowered her head and replied, "Reporting to Princess Consort, this humble one’s throat is a bit dry."
