Chapter 78: Attacked by unemployed squads

One of the customers inside the bakery quickly pulled out her phone and started a livestream, capturing everything that had just happened.

Meanwhile, completely unaware of the chaos unfolding at the bakery, Clara was still being thoroughly pampered by her husband.

Dominic had no intention of going to work that morning. Not when his wife still needed him.

The bedroom door opened, and Dominic walked in carrying a tray of breakfast.

Clara’s eyes immediately sparkled.

"Dom!"

The endearing way she called his name sent an invisible arrow straight through his heart.

(Ouch... Wifey, why do you have to be this cute first thing in the morning?)

Her hair was a complete mess, sticking out in every possible direction. Her face still carried traces of sleep, and she looked nothing like the elegant woman everyone knew outside.

Yet, to Dominic, she had never looked more beautiful.

"Hehe. Come here and feed me."

Clara immediately sat up and patted the empty space beside her.

Although she was feeling considerably better than the previous night, she had absolutely no intention of leaving the bed.

Why would she? She was being pampered by her husband.

Call her greedy, but after getting a taste of Dominic’s undivided attention, Clara wanted more.

Smiling mischievously, she watched him place the breakfast tray aside before sitting beside her.

Dominic reached out and gently ran his fingers through her hair.

Clara leaned into his touch, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully.

"Do you like my hair that much?" she asked, moving closer to him. "You’ve been caressing it all night."

She genuinely wondered what was so special about her hair that had captured his attention.

Unfortunately, before her imagination could wander too far, Dominic’s next words came crashing down on her fantasies.

"No."

Clara blinked.

Dominic calmly continued fixing her hair.

"It looks like a bird’s nest right now. I’m simply trying to make it look presentable."

"..."

Clara stared at him in absolute disbelief.

Dominic, completely oblivious to the emotional damage he had just inflicted, picked up a piece of toast and held it toward her.

"Open."

Clara opened her mouth mechanically.

He fed her.

She chewed while her eyes remained fixed on him.

Dominic frowned. "What?"

"Dom."

"Hm?"

"Are you deprived of romance?"

His hand froze halfway toward the tray. He blinked at her.

(What did I do now?)

Clara sighed dramatically and shook her head.

"Nothing."

She crossed her arms.

He really doesn’t understand how romance works between a husband and wife.

Her gaze wandered over him.

No wonder I thought he was some possessive psycho in my previous life, constantly trying to keep me tied to him.

She narrowed her eyes.

The truth is much worse. My husband has absolutely zero romance cells in his body.

Dominic stared at her suspiciously.

(Why does she look like she’s insulting me inside her head?)

Clara suddenly smiled sweetly.

"Feed me another one, Dom."

Dominic obediently picked up another piece of toast.

(Maybe she’s just hungry.)

Clara nearly laughed.

Yes. Her husband was hopeless. But somehow, she found his hopelessness ridiculously adorable.

Once Clara finished breakfast, she settled back onto the bed while Dominic sat beside her with his laptop, catching up on some work.

Clara, however, had apparently found a much more interesting activity.

She simply stared at her husband.

Her chin rested on her palm as she watched him type, completely mesmerized by his handsome face.

Maybe it’s my period making me this obsessed... or maybe I simply can’t get enough of looking at my husband.

Meanwhile, Dominic was doing his best to remain stoic.

He knew women could become more sensitive during their periods. At least, that was what he had learned from observing Hannah over the years.

But Clara was proving to be a completely different case.

Instead of being emotional or irritable, she was staring at him like a lovesick stalker.

(Why is she looking at me like that?)

Dominic slowly glanced at her.

Clara immediately smiled.

He quickly looked back at his laptop.

(Holy shit. She’s smiling at me now.) His fingers stopped moving.

(Is there something wrong with my face? Did I spill something on it?)

He cautiously stole another glance and Clara was still smiling.

Dominic immediately turned back to the screen.

(Something is definitely wrong with her. Maybe she’s having some kind of mental breakdown.)

But then he frowned. (Wait... does that happen during periods?)

His fingers hovered over the keyboard. (I should ask Mom.)

Without another thought, Dominic picked up his phone and called his mother. However, she didn’t answer, and that made him frown at the screen.

(She’s probably busy dealing with Dad’s latest tantrum.)

Meanwhile, Clara was silently shaking her head.

Dominic’s endless stream of thoughts could probably entertain her for the entire day. But then she remembered something important.

She hadn’t checked on the girls.

She trusted Silvia, Lily, and Gen to manage the bakery in her absence, but they were not just her employees. They were her friends too. As their boss, she should at least check how everything was going.

Clara unlocked her phone and was about to call Silvia when a notification from the bakery’s social media account appeared, and she opened it.

"Woah..." Her eyes widened.

Hundreds of comments were flooding the page. And strangely, almost every comment contained the same thing—a link.

"Did we go viral again?" Clara asked in surprise.

A tiny smile appeared on her lips as she tapped the link. But then her smile disappeared instantly because the link opened to a livestream from inside her bakery, and whatever she saw only made her stare at the screen in disbelief.

"Holy shit."

Dominic looked up.

"We’re under attack by Dorothy and her unemployed squad!"

Clara jolted upright so quickly that Dominic nearly dropped his laptop.

"What happened?"

Clara scrambled out of bed.

"Dom, there’s an emergency at the bakery! I need to go!" She took a step toward the door, but the sound of her phone hitting the floor made her stop.

Dominic calmly picked it up, and his expression changed the moment he saw the livestream.

His brows knitted and his eyes darkened.

Clara turned toward him impatiently.

"What?"

Dominic looked at her with an oddly calm expression.

"But first, look at this."

Clara frowned. "What?"

He turned the phone toward her, and her jaw dropped instantly.

For a moment, she simply stared at the screen.

"Am I seeing things...?" She looked at Dominic. "...or is this finally happening?"

Dominic’s lips slowly curved upward.

(Finally. Something that isn’t about me being suspicious because my wife keeps staring at my face.)
