Chapter 1284: Chapter 1156: False Alarm (Part 2)

"Our son makes a lot of sense; I think Master was just scared. The old man has saved so many lives; even King Yama doesn’t dare to take him."

Zhang Guoqing echoed his son’s words, squeezing her hand. Very well, her fist had unclenched; his son’s efforts were not in vain.

Zhou Jiao bitterly smiled and nodded at him.

—No matter how much they exaggerated, her master is indeed old.

Zhou Jiao sighed inwardly, turning to look out the window. Despite all her years as his disciple, she had never seen any abnormalities in the old master’s health—until now?

Not to mention that her senior brother, the most composed person, didn’t even flinch when treating patients on the battlefield. How could he be easily frightened? The problem must be severe.

Fainted?

Zhou Jiao closed her eyes, carefully recalling the recent safe check-ups by him, lost in thought.

May 1st’s driving speed was impressive, especially since it was nighttime when fewer people were out. Occasionally, one or two buses passed by on the road.

When they arrived at the Military General Hospital, it was very close to his estimated ten minutes.

Getting out of the car, Zhou Jiao quickly pushed open her side’s car door. Not waiting for Zhang Guoqing to get out, she sprinted inside. Then she remembered, "Did your uncle say where it is?"

With this pause, Zhang Guoqing and his son had already sprung out of the car, standing on either side of her.

May 1st grabbed her hand, "Follow me." He indeed forgot to ask, but since it was fainting, it should be in the emergency room.

At the Military General Hospital, Zhang Guoqing couldn’t brazenly carry his wife in his arms; he didn’t fear any gossip, embracing his wife wasn’t embracing an unfamiliar woman.

But seeing his youngest son leading the way with his wife, Zhang Guoqing could only follow closely behind.

"Dad, hurry up."

Zhang Guoqing was too lazy to speak, staying beside his wife. So, sons, they’re all worrisome. Wouldn’t he take care of his wife?

At the emergency room door, surrounded by four or five military personnel, Zhang Guoqing asked around and discovered that the ongoing surgery wasn’t for the old man.

He shot a glare at his son, snatched his wife, and headed out. Really, no hair on his mouth, unreliable.

"Dad, I’ll go to the front to find a duty doctor to ask. You take care of Mom first."

"Scram!"

If not for the wrong time and place, May 1st nearly burst out laughing. His dad was truly childlike! Hadn’t he noticed his mom was more relaxed now?

Maybe mixing with those rough guys often, his dad preferred straightforwardness.

May 1st returned when Zhang Guoqing had already learned the location of Doctor Hu’s ward.

The family of three arrived, pushed the ward door open, and Zhou Jiao immediately rushed in. Upon glancing around... oh, there were really quite a few people inside.

Besides Uncle Hu and Aunt, also present were her senior brother Zhu Ling and the seventh senior brother couple.

Zhou Jiao squeezed past a few people around the hospital bed, immediately seeing Doctor Hu lying on it. At the moment, his eyes were closed, with a large bottle hung on his wrist.

Zhu Ling stood up, pushed a chair toward her, "Little sister, come sit first, catch your breath." He then gestured for Zhang Guoqing and his son to sit on the sofa by the window.

Zhou Jiao shook her head, sat sideways on the bed, and reached to touch the old man’s hand, which was hooked up to a saline drip, considering checking the pulse first. But she worried about moving the needle.

How did she see her master truly looked worn out? Yesterday, his complexion was still rosy, smiling like Santa Claus.

Now? His face pale, under the white bed sheet and quilt, the age spots on his face and hands were even more obvious beneath the incandescent lamp.

"Senior brother, what’s the situation with my master now?"

Originally, Zhou Jiao wanted to first ask Uncle Hu and the others, but there was some resentment. It was her senior brother who informed her; why didn’t the others call her first?

She knew she was venting. This thought seems excessive, she refrained from speaking up, fearing she might lose control of her tone and hurt feelings.

Zhu Ling looked at the others with difficulty.

Seeing this, Zhou Jiao shivered, bit her lip, and focused on him, "Is it very serious? Tell me what’s needed; I’ll figure it out."

Zhu Ling sighed silently, "Little sister..."

Zhou Jiao saw him hesitating, furrowed her brows, and looked at the seventh senior brother, "Speak; I can handle it."

The seventh brother rolled his eyes at the ceiling, only blinking towards Zhou Jiao after his wife pulled at his clothes, directing his gaze toward Doctor Hu.

Zhou Jiao’s heart ached; her master’s condition was so severe it made senior brothers apprehensive to speak in front of him, even if asleep.

Secretly, Zhou Jiao wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, deeply looked at her master again, and turned to leave.

Nearby, Zhang Guoqing and his son faced their backs, while Uncle Hu and Aunt, the elderly couple, were pouring tea beside them.

The father and son gave each other a glance, catching Zhou Jiao turning to leave, and immediately stood up to follow.

May 1st nudged his dad, gestured toward him, then stopped and turned to the bedside...

In the corridor outside the ward.

Zhang Guoqing looked at Zhou Jiao and then at the two senior brothers who followed in, he opened his mouth but closed it again; he couldn’t just speak his mind.

Still, seeing his wife so saddened, Zhang Guoqing extended his arm to embrace her, squeezing her arm rhythmically. Hopefully, he was right.

Zhou Jiao, puzzled, glanced at him and turned to Zhu Ling and the others, "Senior brother, please tell me, what’s wrong with the old man? Should I invite Master to come over?"

Zhang Guoqing, waiting for her to finish, immediately added, "Better to let Master come over; I’ll arrange it right away. Check if there’s a military aircraft available, if not, for the master’s sake, I’ll apply for it."

Zhu Ling quickly waved his hand, "No need, it’s not necessary, absolutely not."

Zhang Guoqing, reassured by this, confidently waved his hand, "How could it not be necessary? Don’t worry, I’ll arrange it now."

Zhou Jiao immediately grabbed him, looked at him in confusion.

What’s he up to? She didn’t believe Zhang Guoqing was so eager to leave. Besides, involving military aircraft, that’s the state’s matter; how could you randomly mobilize it for personal reasons?

When it’s about official matters, not even Zhang Guoqing, her father wouldn’t act recklessly. His words just now would fool young ones, at best.

The seventh senior brother tapped Zhu Ling, turning his head to look outside, "You’re the eldest, you should tell."

Zhu Ling couldn’t help but scold him, "Now you acknowledge I’m the eldest? Just now... knowing I’m the eldest, you still didn’t follow my instructions? You do it, you have better speech skills."

"I don’t know how to say it. I came late."

"I’ll tell the seventh sister-in-law, you’ve hidden several jars of liquor secretly."

"Then I’ll tell the eldest sister-in-law you haven’t quit smoking."
