Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 446 - 383: Paternity Test, The Past is Like Smoke
She then made a call.
The call was picked up almost instantly. A deep, world-weary voice came through the phone, "Minmin! You’re back in the country?!"
Hearing this voice, Yu Min, who had just calmed down, choked up again. "Dad..."
Before Yu Min could say another word, the voice on the other end spoke again, clear enough for Wu Yun to hear. "Damn it, Minmin, who bullied you?!"
Yu Min didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she was deeply touched. "Dad! No! No one bullied me! I have great news! I found Dodo in Jingyang!"
「In a beautiful courtyard in Jinling.」
A slightly heavyset old man with glasses slammed the newspaper in his left hand onto the coffee table and shot up from his chair. The staff members beside him watched in terror, afraid the old man might faint from excitement.
Fortunately, no such incident occurred. The old man’s urgent voice rang out, "Are you guys still in Jingyang? Is Dodo with you? Bring him to Jinling right now!"
"No! I’ll arrange to come to Jingyang immediately! You make the arrangements! Have someone pick me up at the airport!" He hung up after he finished speaking.
Listening to the dial tone from her phone, Yu Min put it away. She saw the slightly dazed Wu Yun beside her, reached out to stroke his head, and broke into a smile. "Son, your grandfather is coming soon!"
"Don’t worry. Your grandfather can be a bit overbearing, but he’s wonderful to his own family! He’s fiercely protective! Over the years, your grandfather has helped me solve many of my problems!"
Wu Yun didn’t know how to respond, so he changed the subject. "Um... Mom! Why don’t you let me send someone to pick up Grandpa? My car is spacious! It’ll be more comfortable for him!"
Hearing Wu Yun call her that, Yu Min once again wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. She didn’t object to his suggestion and said with a smile, "Alright! No problem! I’ll have Xiaoliu contact your grandfather’s secretary to see how many people are coming with him, then we can make detailed arrangements."
Then, Yu Min carefully placed the report into the file bag her secretary, Xiaoliu, handed her, giving Xiaoliu a few more instructions as she did.
Yu Min glanced at her watch and realized three hours had passed since the blood draw for the DNA test. She hadn’t noticed the time flying by while talking with Wu Yun.
"Do—" Yu Min started to call Wu Yun by his childhood name, but then switched. "Son, can you take me to meet the people who adopted you? I want to thank them properly!"
Wu Yun sighed. "Mom, let’s talk on the way."
By the time they reached the parking lot, Wu Yun had briefly explained his life since being adopted.
But when she heard that the old couple who adopted Wu Yun had passed away a few years ago, a look of regret crossed Yu Min’s face. "Ai, what a shame! I really wanted to thank my benefactors!"
"Do your grandfather and grandmother in Jingyang have any other relatives?" Yu Min continued to ask.
Wu Yun shook his head. "For the past few years, I’ve been on my own."
Yu Min’s eyes reddened. She said softly, "Ai... you’ve really suffered."
But then Yu Min realized something. ’If he was an orphan, how did he become a famous tycoon in the country in such a short time? Could he be a frontman for someone?’
"Son, where did you get all this money?" Yu Min asked with a smile, careful not to reveal her inner worries.
Wu Yun immediately understood what she was getting at. "Mom! Don’t worry, my luck is pretty good! I won 50 million and started a company, and it just took off unexpectedly!"
"You know, one of my game companies now has quarterly revenues of 1.5 billion RMB!"
As he drove, Wu Yun went on to explain to Yu Min how he had built his fortune, though he concealed the existence of the System and exaggerated the effect of the Little Red Car deposits.
Yu Min didn’t dwell on the holes in Wu Yun’s story. Instead, she said with great concern, "Misappropriating deposits is no small matter! If someone were to investigate, it’s illegal!"
"Have you filled that hole in your finances yet? If not, I’ll give you the money to fill it right away!" Yu Min didn’t even ask how much money Little Red Car was short, which touched Wu Yun and, at the same time, made him extremely curious about what his mother did for a living.
"Mom! It’s fine! We got funding from Tencent before, which made the hole much smaller. Plus, with the bank’s endorsement, there won’t be any problems! Worst case, I’ll just do another round of financing!"
The two chatted about company matters while Wu Yun drove, and soon they were back on the streets near 102.
Yu Min looked at the familiar streets. They had just passed Yongji Dry Pot, where they had eaten lunch.
A few hundred meters later, Wu Yun pulled the car into a parking spot on the side of the road.
Yu Min asked in disbelief, "Son, you’ve lived around here your whole life?"
Wu Yun nodded, pointing to the entrance of the residential complex on the left. "Yeah! My whole life."
Yu Min covered her face and leaned back against the passenger seat, her chest heaving. After a long moment, she reproached herself, "It’s all my fault! Why didn’t I keep searching harder?!"
"Back then, I posted missing person flyers all over Jingyang! I didn’t have a photo of you from the day you disappeared, but we included older pictures. Still, there was never any news!"
Yu Min didn’t continue, but Wu Yun could guess what she wanted to say next.
"Mom! Are we still going up?" Wu Yun hesitated for a moment before asking.
Yu Min composed herself and smiled faintly. "Let’s go. Take me to see the grandparents who raised you. Mom wants to see how you lived."
The two got out of the car under the gazes of some neighborhood elders. One of the old men recognized Wu Yun and asked with a smile, "Xiaowu, who’s that next to you?"
Wu Yun said with a cheerful laugh, "Grandmaster Liu! This is my mom! My real mom! I’m taking her to see Grandpa and Grandma!"
"Congratulations! A family reunion!" Uncle Liu beamed, his tea-stained teeth revealing a gap as he spoke.
They exchanged a few pleasantries, but didn’t talk for long before Wu Yun led Yu Min into the residential complex.
Walking up the narrow staircase, when Wu Yun wasn’t looking, Yu Min frowned slightly.
Soon, Wu Yun opened the fingerprint lock and went inside.
Breathing in the faint scent of dust and the familiar smell of home, Wu Yun’s expression relaxed. "Mom! The apartment might seem a little small to you! Come on! This is my room!"
Wu Yun opened a bedroom off the living room, showing her the room that had remained untouched since he graduated from high school.
Looking at the small but cozy bedroom, the knot in Yu Min’s heart began to loosen a little.
Yu Min walked over to Wu Yun’s desk, picked up a photo album, and gently patted the dust off it before opening the A4-sized book.
Seeing the pictures of him as a child, a smile involuntarily appeared on Yu Min’s face.
"Son, can you give these photos to Mom? I don’t have any pictures of you from when you were little!"
Hearing this, Wu Yun felt a sting in his nose. He forced a smile and said, "Mom, look around the room. You can take anything you want."
Yu Min placed the album back on the desk. "Son, take me to see your grandpa and grandma first."
Wu Yun felt a sense of relief when he heard her say that. Just a moment ago, he could clearly feel how angry she was.
He opened his grandparents’ bedroom. The afternoon sun was shining through the window, making the room bright and warm.
Staring at the two black-and-white photos on the wall, Yu Min subconsciously instructed, "Son, go get me three incense sticks. I want to pay my respects to your grandpa and grandma."
Wu Yun brought three incense sticks, lit them, and handed them to Yu Min. He then heard her say, "Son, go wait in the living room. I want to speak with them alone."
After Wu Yun left the room, Yu Min gripped the three incense sticks and said, "I don’t know if you ever saw the missing person flyers I posted back then... Ai! Never mind, what’s done is done. I still want to thank you for raising my son into a man, and for not letting him suffer."
"And thank you for saving my son’s life back then!"
Yu Min gazed at the old couple in the photos, bowed deeply, and then placed the incense into the burner.
